Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I wonder if the schedule for that day is available. If extended cut runs in the exact same time slot as the recent One Piece specials I cannot see the director's cut being any less than the 100-ish minutes that the aforementioned recent specials have been.

Well, Yamada's tweet mentions that they're recording more with Pilaf, Shu, and Mai, so there'll be that at least.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:The question is what is that time going towards? More gags?

*Inwardly debates on this*. Well, I did like the Pilaf stuff more than I thought I would, but I still hope at least some of the new animation has to do with the main plot.
On hiatus.

I wonder what the score will be for these new scenes. Will Sumitomo record new pieces or, assuming he is the composer for Dragon Ball Kai, will the pieces composed for the Majin Buu arc be used here?
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I guess it's the latter. I don't want the former to happen because that will make the soundtrack CD incomplete, which bothers me as hell.JulieYBM wrote:I wonder what the score will be for these new scenes. Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Dragon Ball and incomplete soundtracks? Never heard of it!
Although I have to wonder if this is this will be the case where Toei finally says screw it and releases an extended edition release. A new limited Blu-ray with a CD soundtrack as an extra would be neat. That probably will not happen, though. It would be interesting if the new pieces were from the Majin Buu arc, however.

So we're getting more footage? But all of the home video releases are already out! The film is already being exhibited in foreign markets! Any chances of hyping this on any significant level are long gone. Why now? This seems like an awfully last-minute (and sloppy) thing to do for a film that apparently had a very carefully planned production and distribution strategy.
Okay, so... this kind of thing is common? Did foreign distributors (like FUNimation) get this new animation for their releases of the Alabasta film? I don't want this kind of stuff to just be exclusive to Japanese television airings.JulieYBM wrote:When One Piece: Episode of Alabasta was broadcast on Fuji TV Toei added fifteen minutes of new animation.
I want to be excited for this but I'm just so damn confused.

The extra scenes should just be Trunks on a date with Mai while Pilaf and Shu spy to pick up tricks to handle the ladies.

*Predicts a future range of super-collectable, standard and special home releases containing the extra footage*
Toei are better at squeezing every last penny out of the pockets of fans than anyone else. Even Funimation's tactics seem paltry in comparison.
Unfortunately for the majority of us here, we're subject to the efforts of both companies.

I'm hoping it will work out nicely I that picked up the Japanese collectors edition on blu-ray for the nice packaging and extras, and I can just purchase Funimation's much cheaper dub release with subtitles (and now the extra scenes as well). Win, win.

Personally I hope the extra 15 minutes is of everyone just hanging out. a lot of characters got side lined in this (Piccolo, Krillin, Tien and Yamcha). Would be nice to see them get more lines and scenes.
Other acceptable scenes would be more explanation on SSJG, or more Beerus breakdancing.

I want the scenes of everyone fighting Beerus that Toriyama himself wrote, but ended up getting cut. Random interactions are fun and all, but he had such a big hand in the film that I rather just see his material added back in so I can watch it closer to how he wrote it.

Would be cool if they animated abit from the original plot, kinda like it was done in Sword of The Stranger which has a 2-3 minute animation of the original concept. Could see Beerus's original lizard like design and possibly the SSJG concept designs.

The Birus chop-sticks fight was only introduced as it was deemed unfeasible to depict him using a knife and fork like Toriyama wrote it. I doubt that they'd choose to reanimate it now.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I want the scenes of everyone fighting Beerus that Toriyama himself wrote, but ended up getting cut. Not the original fork scene. There were storyboards for about ~40 minutes of footage for additional scenes, like fights between our heroes and Beerus when Goku gets in trouble and stuff, that was never animated because that would have made the film well over their 85 minute run time. Obviously we can't have 40 minutes of storyboards in 15 minutes of new animation, but it would be closer...
I don't remember where the 40 minute line was stated. Kinda upset I can't search Kanzenshuu's individual sections to help narrow things down, but these were what I could find:

Only, in the end, we expanded the scenario too much, and at the storyboarding phase, we had already gone very much over [the intended length], so as a result, we cut down quite a bit. (laughs)
In the scenario, the Z-Warriors played a larger role, so I would have liked to put more of that to video, if possible. Each of them has their fans, after all, and I think they’ve all trained and gotten stronger.
Also, we shortened the breaks in the fight [and such], and managed to just barely get it within the allotted time. Contrary [to what you'd expect], I think concentrating it [made it more] impressive.
— Masahiro Hosoda, Battle of Gods Official Movie Guide
What are your thoughts on having tried something new by making the story?
It was very interesting. More than anything, I don’t have to draw anything… I’ll just get that joke out of the way. (laughs) It’s the first movie since the live-action version, so I also wanted to really show people the aspect of, “this is Dragon Ball“. Before, I also had the serialization, so I wasn’t deeply involved with the animated works, and I left a lot of it up to [the anime staff]. But this time, I checked over the script carefully for the first time. (laughs)
What I understood the least in being involved was how long of a script would be finished into how long of a movie. Writing it, I had the sense that there wasn’t enough story, and thought they would expand on it for me. But on the contrary, it had gotten so long that they had to cut it down. I wish I’d known that beforehand. But, to the extent that I think, “if there were 10 more minutes, I could have made it even more interesting~,” I also think it’s plenty interesting the way it is now!
Those who have seen the film gave me their impressions that, “Maybe it’s because you were involved, Sensei, but I thought it was a very Dragon Ball animation,” which made me happy. Everyone on the staff made [the movie] according to the scenario I wrote…but on the other hand, I also got the impression that it’s because they worked hard, saying, “this isn’t manga, so let’s do our best with it as animation!”
What sort of scenes were cut out?
Among the cut scenes, there was one scene I wrote where Goku is in a pinch, and everyone goes to help him, even though they know it’s hopeless. It goes on so that in the end, even Satan tries to help.
Satan is a hopeless case, but he’s a character who also feels that he wants to help in some way. I suppose this was left out for time issues. In the original story, for fun, I made Satan say lots of things like, “I have a stomachache, so I’ll protect everyone from here!” (laughs)

I hope the English dub does that too! It'd make the long wait (at least compared to the Latino, Brasilian, etc. dubs) a little more worth it. I hope there's more Beerus scenes as well. I'm kinda bummed to hear there's more Pilaf and co. I like them being in the movie. But, it felt like they were already a bit dragged out even in the original version of the movie.sangofe wrote:Oh my, I hope the french dub of battle of gods ends up dubbing the director's cut version!MagicBox wrote:Okay, STOP.

I really hope that we will find out more about Whis, before Beerus' awakening. But it's unlikely. But the character of Whis is too myterious, it deserves to be revealed more about him.

I dunno, call me skeptical - but I think that anything that carries any sort of plot significance was probably retained for the theatrical cut. Normally deleted scenes just tend to be jokes, extended dialogue or more expansive establishing shots or visual sequences.Low Tone G wrote:I really hope that we will find out more about Whis, before Beerus' awakening. The extra scenes are going to show how Pilaf and Co. returned to their adult state to ensure that GT can indeed take place, and is in fact prepping for GT Kai's very own release in 2015.
No but really, I kinda hoped the extra scenes would feature some better interactions between some of the interesting secondary characters.
