I liked all the filler with Gohan training in the saiyan arc and I also really enjoyed the great saiyaman part. And that episode about naming baby Gohan was super cute too, I loved it.
My most hated filler is during the Cell Games, with Mr Satan and his ridiculous antics. In the manga, Mr Satan is a gag character and a funny incompetent, but in the Cell Games he was SO ANNOYING. Definitely became my most hated character ever, because all of the cuts of him and his "students" and his "stomachache" totally ruined the mood of the fight.

Especially the episode with the orphans. I hated it at first, but I like it.garnetjester wrote:I liked all the filler with Gohan training in the saiyan arc and I also really enjoyed the great saiyaman part. And that episode about naming baby Gohan was super cute too, I loved it.
I had no idea that was filler, but to be fair, at least it had funny moments like Cell slapping Mr. Satan.My most hated filler is during the Cell Games, with Mr Satan and his ridiculous antics. I hate Satan so much in the Cell Arc. He's funny and even endearing in the Buu arc though, and his interactions with Pan are adorable.

I hate all of the filler during the saiyian saga that shit was so boring. My favorite filler episodes are the driving episode in where Goku and Piccolo learn how to drive and the other world tournament episodes.

Re: Instances of filler you liked/disliked
My favorite filler involves the ROSAT training of Gohan and Goku leading up to Gohan's transformation into a Super Saiyan. In the manga they go in there, Goku tells Gohan to get angry, he screams for a bit and can't pull it off. Next time they cut to them Gohan in screaming again and just...achieves it.
The anime has a lot more of them actually fighting and Goku coaching Gohan to get angry. Then we have that last straw where Gohan repeats a line Piccolo told him WAAAAY back in the Saiyan arc that Goku was too soft to properly train his son. Goku decides to prove him wrong and fires a no-holds-barred blast at Gohan who struggles to hold it back before reflecting back on all the times he was useless and ended up hurting himself and his friends. He loses concentration, gets smacked with the Kamehame-ha before screaming in a rage and pushes the blast back. He tries to hold back his fury before collapsing under the weight of his power and anger.
It leaves much more of an impact and adds to the story and characters without being a burden on the action or plot.

Re: Instances of filler you liked/disliked
The filler with kid Gohan before he begins Piccolo's training, and that very humorous part when Chi-Chi forces Goku and Piccolo to get drivers licenses!!!
Those are the parts I enjoyed. Other than that, the rest was quite unnecessary. The 1 Garlic Jr. movie was good but making a saga out of it I didn't really get.
I also thought the part when Goku saw General Tao was pretty funny (before the Cell Games). I forgot if that was actually filler though.

Yes, please:
* The Space Orphans. It really fleshes out the horror of life in the Cold Empire.
* Goz and Mez.
* The filler in the Buu saga.
* The driving episode. I actually love it.
Nope, nope, nope:
* Most of Goku on Snake Way. Tedious as heck to watch.
* Much of the fight filler. Very, very tedious.
* Garlic Jr.
* Vegeta just pointing his fingers at a planet and kabooming it, for funsies, and pretty much all of the filler in the Saiyan Saga that has him and Nappa going around ****ing stuff up for no particular reason. I'm not by any means a Vegeta apologist, but this was way too much "beyond the moral event horizon" for him to be believably redeemable later.

Personally, I love the filler episodes before the Cell Games.

Really? That's one of my favourite ones. We are meant to believe that they trained on there and NOTHING comes out of it, at least the anime gave us this.Gonstead wrote:Humans on Kaio's planet being able to defeat the Ginyu Force. God awful.

No, we know that at least that they would get more powerful near or similar to how Goku did, but to the extent of being able to defeat the Ginyu Force in the small amount of time they were there? No, just no.Kid Buu wrote:Really? That's one of my favourite ones. Re: Instances of filler you liked/disliked
See I don't mind that, mainly because the series was never consistent with power level gains in the first place. Plus, its always been a motif that getting stronger makes you better than the previously beaten villain.
Nappa/Vegeta - All the humans have now easily surpassed Raditz
Android 19/20 - The main fighters (Goku/Vegeta/Piccolo) have easily surpassed Freeza
Babidi/Dabura - The main fighters (Goku/Vegeta) have easily surpassed Cell.

I agree, the humans deserve just as much kick-ass scenes post Dragonball as Goku and the others.Kid Buu wrote:Really? That's one of my favourite ones. I don't really like the Garlic Jr saga that much though, but it is NOT AS AWFUL AS GT!
All the characters introduced between DB episode 1 and DBZ episode 291 that wasn't Goku were just minor characters,
GT is one overrated (outside this forum) piece of garbage and I do not count it as a true sequel, Online (RIP) was a better sequel.

Re: Instances of filler you liked/disliked
That's aren't very good examples. For Goku/Vegeta to be surpassing the previous villains doesn't even require a big gain on their part, it's mostly the transformations that make up the difference. The humans surpassing Raditz was a smaller gap and over a much more reasonable length of time. Piccolo's a bit questionable (we don't really know how strong he got) but again, much longer period of time. All those examples are of them after completing their training, while the Ginyu Force filler is when they're just six days into it. I could certainly accept them surpassing Ginyu's men after their training with Kaio is finished, but not when they've only had six days there. As inconsistent as the strength gains have been they've never been as inconsistent as the humans surpassing the Ginyu Force in six days would have been.Kid Buu wrote:See I don't mind that, mainly because the series was never consistent with power level gains in the first place. I hated that filler scene in the androids arc where Bulma forces Gohan to fly her to Capsule Corp to change Trunks's diaper even though he's worried about his dad being ill. Bulma is bossy and can be a bit of a bitch some times, but I don't think she would've done something like that.

Sadly that's not even TOEI-Bulma at her worst. She actually tried to leave not only Piccolo but Goku, and Gohan to die on Planet Namek so she can go home and take a shower.garnetjester wrote:I hated that filler scene in the androids arc where Bulma forces Gohan to fly her to Capsule Corp to change Trunks's diaper even though he's worried about his dad being ill. I love the barbecue episode because it was nice to see the characters celebrate and interact with each other. Android 18 slyly pushing Gohan to dance in the dancing scene was great, and Chi-Chi's dancing was so awkward and funny to watch. The 10 day preparation episodes were relaxing, especially the episode "Memories of Gohan."Love

Fake Namek has got to be one of the worst filler. Also, with Bulma, I only disliked her when she was being mean to Krillin and Gohan for no good reason.
