It's not really a Piccolo Daimao movie is it?

I mean, Lord Slug is freaking Freeza. Instead of a warlord on Namek he's a Namekian warlord, he has his own Freeza ship, his own Zarbon, Dodoria, henchmen, Goku turns Super Saiyan for the first time against him, and I'm sure there's stuff I'm missing.

He's also identified as a member of the Demon Clan, is a freakishly powerful yet really old Namekian who gathers up the Dragon Balls to restore his youth, who also has several other demon-themed subordinates, he eventually turns into a giant during Goku's fight, oh, and yeah, Goku uses the exact same attack that he killed Demon King Piccolo with on him... though in all fairness it wasn't the finisher here. That would be the Genkidama, aka the attack that the movies loved to use as his finishing-move despite it having never worked in the show itself at that point...

This is one of my favorite DBZ movies. I had no idea before I found this forum that it wasn't a well liked movie. I am surprised by this. I watched the Dub version with the rock music, I don't know if that makes a difference. I get hype every time I watch it. I guess it could just be nostalgia, but the only DBZ movie I really don't like would be Bio-Broly, and maybe Dead Zone.

Well, it's basically Piccolo's movie. And no one seems to have given it props for that.

Wait, what? :o

I mean, no joke, the false Super Saiyain is in there because Toei names their movies before they write them. Piccolo owns, Piccolo gets owned because Goku has to do something, then Piccolo gives Goku the ki to own Slug again because Goku got owned the first time. And almost all of its a step up in the brutality department; frankly, the fact that Slug looks like Larry Boy should be the only thing throwing people off from his being Broly before it was cool. Not that that helps his character much. Like the idea of freezing the Earth for resources as well, it gives the villains a more utilitarian purpose, much like Tullence, which honestly makes aliens constantly coming to Earth more plausible in general.

I mean, it's a bad movie, but in a GT "There are these bits that are really cool but I can't enjoy them because they're part of a weak package" kind of way.

Just like Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

One of the movies I like less even though Coola is one of my favourite movie villains.
A lot of time is lost hiding Goku and waiting for Gohan to return.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

The only good thing about this movie was the beginning with Gohan dancing and whistling and Piccolo being super annoyed  I like that Chichi gets to do something too, but I don't think the story is good enough.

wrong movie bro, lol.

and it was alright. I did like the henchmen, they were kinda cool but i agree that Slug was boring. Abit too much of a rehash of Daimao, the music helped but it was a mediocre movie. Liek it isnt unwatchable or terrible, but nothing amazing. LOL at the cover that featured 2 fodder henchmen that were killed early on by Slug prominently on it. xD

Boring and derivative

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

It's not the best movie, but it does have some of my favourite Japanese tracks and I think slug is pretty decent villain. However that's my opinion.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.
