That is by no means solid proof that Toriyama wanted to ignore GT. The entire project was forced to exclude anime exclusive content because the game developer was only able to get the rights to the manga, though they wanted them for all of it.
He could have easily have worked his way around it if it were that important to him.

Because Toriyama can wave his hand and magically overturn property-rights ownership laws at will?

Its not important to him though. Any decent amount of reading on here will show you Toriyama is not and never was very fond of Dragonball. On many occasions he talked about it in disdain. Why go through the hassle and legal work of something you never really cared about anyway?

Why are almost everyone here so butthurt when someone says canon?

There is a canon. Deal with it.

I highly doubt that it would even be his call to make. Everything in the game did need his approval as to whether it would fit within the Dragon Ball world, but that doesn't mean he had the final say on everything overall.

Assuming he even wrote the timeline, which it seems like he did thanks to what little "evidence" we have", perhaps it was not him who gave the timeline entries their dates. Maybe the developers took what he wrote and put the information where ever they needed.

Bullza wrote:At least as far as Toriyama is concerned Dragon Ball GT is not a part of his story. The movies he has said take place in an alternate dimension meaning they also do not take part in his story. The movie characters would not exist in Toriyama's story, the movie characters do show up in Dragon Ball GT which means that it would also take place in this alternate dimension and not the main (canon) story.
Alternative dimensions =/= canon. Future Trunks' world & the Room of Spirit and Time for example are also alternative dimensions. That doesn't mean they are non-canon.

Cannon is what the original writer does to the Orginal story. Non-cannon is like extra things that go along with the story, but take No effect on the Orginal story. Just because Akira wrote it, doesn't mean its automatically cannon. And GT was like a huge fan project or something right?Akira hates it so much he doesn't want anything to do with it. So GT is just like a massive fan fiction that got so popular that they made a TV show. So its not cannon.

Because no official canon exists, so anyone that says one does is either lying or misinformed. There's only fanon. Also, "canon" is usually used as "thing I like" while non-canon is "thing I don't like".

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

It's funny when the discussion goes to canon and whatnot. I don't know how hard it is to accept the Dragon Ball is 42 books. Everything else is supplementary material, whether you want it or not.

Jaco, Specials, Battle of Gods, episode of Bardock, etc. are supplements to the main thing. Toriyama ENDED the manga with volume 42 (or chapter 519, if you want to be specific). I don't get how hard it is to accept this and live a happy life.

I'm pretty sure he's sees GT as a failure. He's likes SSJ4's design that's about it...

If he said that he disliked DBE in public, he would have said the same for GT.

“My sincerest gratitude to all those who bought this Dragon Ball GT DVD box.
Being a lazy bum by nature, I was absurdly happy when I managed to safely finish up Dragon Ball’s serialization, and finally be released from Deadline Hell. The TV anime people wanted to continue for just a little bit more, but I [just couldn't do] any more than that… And so, I left the Dragon Ball anime completely up to the anime staff, story and all. That was “Dragon Ball GT”.
In car lingo, GT means “Gran Turismo”: a fast, high-powered car, in other words. But in this case, I had GT mean “Grand Touring”, a great journey, since the scenario was that they’d be running around the universe.
For GT, all I did was just come up with the title, design the initial main cast and some of the machines, and also do a few images. However, I was able to rest easy handing things over to the excellent staff, who had continued on Dragon Ball for all this time. In particular, the animator Nakatsuru-kun is amazingly skilled, and mastered the peculiarities of my pictures in no time at all, to the point where there were even times when I couldn’t tell whether I had drawn a certain character design, or if he had. For instance, one of Nakatsuru-kun’s designs was “Super Saiyan 4″, which appears in GT, and the picture above is a portrait that I drew looking off it. Did I draw it well?
Dragon Ball GT is a grand side-story of the original Dragon Ball, and it’ll make me happy for us to watch and enjoy it together.”

There is nothing negative there.
