Dr. Slump: The Movies (1-5) by Discotek
Re: Is there any possibility of FUNimation releasing Dr. Slu
If a company were to release it, I would hope it is Sentai. I didn't like how Funimation released Dragon Ball-Z-GT, and if they are any indication...
But, since Funi has connections, you never know.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

Re: Is there any possibility of FUNimation releasing Dr. Slu
The first movie is about 30 minutes, the second is an hour and a half (!), and the other three are 40~50 minutes. Movie 1 is Senbei and co. going off to Wonder Island to get the ingredients for a love potion; it's a direct adaptation of an early story in the manga. Movie 2 is a big Star Wars-style space opera. Midori turns out to be the princess of an alien planet and gets kidnapped by Mashirito (an alien warlord in this version of things); Arale and co. go into space to rescue her. Movie 3 has the gang all enter a race around the world, for a prize of a million bucks and/or the hand in marriage of a princess who happens to look exactly like Midori. It's loosely based on the Penguin Village Grand Prix stories and is pretty much the Wacky Races with Mashirito as Snidely Whiplash. Movie 4 has Arale, Akane and the Gatchans as Robin Hood-style ninja thieves in Great Depression era America; they go after a wish-granting treasure that's stolen by some other thieves first (this is a mash-up of two manga stories). In Movie 5 Arale and the other kids in Penguin Village get taken to this weird mechanical dream land during the night; it's the only one of the first five movies not really based on any manga story at all. Also, does anyone happen to have an exact run-time and short description for each of the first five films that they wouldn't mind sharing?

Thanks for the info Herms - bouncing between Wiki and ANN both still wasn't giving me much to go on. Movie 2 especially sounds like a lot of fun (can't believe it's that long compared to the others though, whoa!). I repeat - I cannot wait for this box set to be in my hands.

Thanks a bunch for that info, Herms.
I still remember the Love Potion story from the anime series so seeing in film-form and for thirty minutes will be great, as well the other films.
Can't wait to get this movie box. ^_^

So excited for this! I don't normally do this, but I'll be preordering directly from Discotek's site to show support for this as directly as I can. Right now I'm focusing my hope on the fact that if this set sells well enough we'll hopefully get the rest of the movies. The TV series would be a real dream. Seems less likely, but it's possible! Discotek did release all of Fist of the North Star!

Blame the fans not the company. Funimation releases what sells. As many people that complains about the milking I believe they are in the minority because Funimation keeps selling it to the fans over and over again. they don't force anyone to buy their products.Gokuden wrote:If a company were to release it, I would hope it is Sentai. I'm just hoping Funimation will get Battle of Gods and more Toriko.

I think this is an unfortunate reality across the board of all things in the entertainment industry. I play bass for one of the most celebrated artists in Bluegrass (He and his brother were big through the late '60s - '80s and still extremely popular in the '90s and '00s until the one brother retired). It's the same thing. I'll end my statement there before I get on my soapbox.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Old stuff, sadly, just doesn't do the numbers that newer stuff does. A lot of people, based on online comments I've seen anyway, just flat refuse to watch something if it's old or looks it. It's sad how much great stuff they're missing out on with a mindset like that, but it is what it is.
I'd love it if they did. I've been toying with the idea of reading the manga since it's from Toriyama and has references in Dragon Ball.

Interesting! I suppose this is the project he's been off doing on Jupiter? I do trust it to be handled a bit better than what my pessimistic side was thinking was the worst possibility. Maybe we'll even get some character name consistency with Kanzenshuu? We'll see.

That' wasn't Senbe. It was just a farmer who shared his design from the remake, the same way the guys behind the film in the Saiyaman Arc weren't actually Red and Black.samuraix123 wrote:At-least in my opinion considering Goku went to Penguin village and we got to see senbei in Battle of Gods.

How do you know it wasn't? No offense but these look pretty much the same
Exact same hairstyle,face,nose?
Battle of Gods

Dr Slump

Looks the same to me.
Also why wouldn't they make a reference of Dr Slump? Penguin Village is in the Dragonball Universe.

Looking the same does not mean they are the same character. Especially in Dragon Ball, where designs are recycled like crazy.

Regardless whether that is true or not ^ Look at the right side of both the images I posted. the hair is even the same? lol the face and everything! I see what you're saying with your example as well so don't think that I don't.
But to me they just look pretty much identical! and I just don't see why you wouldn't think they wouldn't make a reference to Dr. Slump?

Re: Is there any possibility of FUNimation releasing Dr. Slu
I'm pretty sure that's just a little nod towards Senbei/Dr. Slump rather than actually being meant to be taken as Senbei. My order of events could be wrong so someone could correct me here, but Kenji Utsumi was still with us and played Shenron in Battle of Gods, didn't he? He didn't play that farmer as well did he?
And even if he did, I'd still call it just a cameo, since I dunno how Senbei would have ended up as a farmer so near West City.

See now that I don't know too much about that considering I've only read the first manga and watched a couple episodes here or there. so someone with a little more knowledge will have to take over on that one.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I'm pretty sure that's just a little nod towards Senbei/Dr. Slump rather than actually being meant to be taken as Senbei. Re: Is there any possibility of FUNimation releasing Dr. Slu
I'm sure it is a reference to Dr. Slump, the same way there is a Heal Slime in Beerus' fish tank/lake thing. It's just not actually Senbe.
He's not listed as playing anyone other than Shenlong on the Battle of Gods cedits, so I dunno. Yusaku Yara, who played him in the remake isn't listed on the credits either.Gyt Kaliba wrote:My order of events could be wrong so someone could correct me here, but Kenji Utsumi was still with us and played Shenron in Battle of Gods, didn't he? Not really, I've just been doing it over this last month. Basically, someone else did all the hard work of actually subtitling the movies, and all I had I do was look over the subs and make any changes I thought were necessary. Changing character name spellings to fit name puns, helping with references to the main series that went over the translator's head, etc.Interesting! I suppose this is the project he's been off doing on Jupiter?

Ah, cool. Figured you were probably fact-checking, but that perhaps you'd be involved with some extras. Thought it would be cool if they had you recording a commentary track! I know it's not exactly Dragon Ball-related, but it would be awesome if you guys did an episode of the podcast about it when this comes outHerms wrote:Not really, I've just been doing it over this last month.
