It's not working because the site he's uploading to doesn't allow hotlinking. When you try to access his image, it redirects to 'http://localhost/go_away_no_hotlinking_allowed'.

So yeah, Weedity, like Steve said, upload to something there does allow it. Imgur.com is great since you don't even have to sign up.

I just made a rotating Gundam avatar. I have GIFs from Wing, G, CCA, Zeta and ZZ. Generally from well animated segments. I'll add more later (and won't clog this thread with them.)

Felt this forum needed some more Bass.

So I'm at my base singing in bass, basing my voice off well-known bass James Earl Jones, who voiced fictional bass Darth Vader who flew around on his base, the Executor, which guarded the Empire's base, the Death Star at the forest moon of Endor, under the command of the Emperor, who was most definitely not a bass.

Weedity wrote:Okay, avatars on these forums are really not easy to upload. First off, you can only upload a picture from links and not saved files? Secondly, only 100 by 100 pixels? That is so small I can't even find picture links that small of dimensions. So I used a program to shrink my picture and opened it in a new tab so it would have a link and well check out my avatar for how that worked out....
Sorry to hear you're having such difficulties, but if you upload an image to a free image hosting service like Photobucket, TinyPic, imgur, or ImageShack, you shouldn't have any problems. Right now your avatar link is to Shrink Pictures, which only resizes images for you, it doesn't host them (hence it prevents hotlinking). It will process the image, but you have to download the processed image and upload it somewhere else. That's why it's not showing up properly. The main reasons we don't allow anyone to upload files to the forum is because it takes up our server space, uses our bandwidth, and is a direct way for someone who knows what they're doing to gain access to the back-end of the forums. This practice is fairly common, but it's up to forum admin. Besides, it's not like there's nowhere else on the internet to host a 100x100 image for free.

As for the restriction in size, well that's something we've always done. In fact it used to be 80x80 until two years ago when we increased it to a whopping 100x100. We're here to have thought provoking discussions about Dragon Ball, not show off how big our avatars and sigs are. That's been our policy since day one. Besides, 100x100 is a standard avatar size and it fits the layout well. Numerous other forums still use 65x65 from back in the early days of the internet.

Postimage.org works just as well with no sign up needed.

Yeah, postimage is what I tend to use. Photobucket has never been appealing to me ever since they updated ages ago, to where it's hard to get a link to just the direct image to work. Postimage though is just so simple - free, no sign up, uploads fast, it's pretty much ideal other than you can't (to my knowledge) really make a 'gallery'. But eh, I just re-upload as needed.

And speaking of, just used it again because...it was time for a new avatar again! I was going to use something different, but then my attention was turned towards the latest Heroes ad, and...well, it occurred to me that I don't really have any GT age avatars of Kuririn. Part of it is because I just don't really care for his design there honestly, but eh...it's still something a little 'different' than what I had been using, so I figured I'd go with it for a bit and give the ol' guy his due.

And thus the Kuririn avatar parade continues!

Ok, so I've been trying to actually get an avatar, but I can't seem to find anything to work. Every response I get is that a url is invalid, even when I have the proper size and dimensions. This is probably a really dumb question, but could I get some pointers?

Save the image, upload to imgur.com, copy and paste the URL and add .jpg to the end.

Or not because TinyPic is actual garbage. Either way, it's the same damn principal.

Tinypic is awful. It may not even allow you to link it. Just go with Postimage.org. It's free, no signup needed and great for avatars, especially if you don't really care about organizing them and just want a pic uploaded for an avatar, reference images, and other things for quick access.

Sometimes. Other times it gives you a blank image with a TinyPic logo.

Still not working for me. I can't seem to get anything to work regarding this for some reason. Is there a place where I can get clearer instructions, perhaps?

1). Go to Google images, type in 'Dragon Ball' or whatever you're looking for your avatar to be based around.

2). Click 'Search tools' and in the menu that appears, hit 'size' and then 'exactly' - this'll bring up a box allowing you to enter in the size you're looking for. Enter in '100' in both boxes or anything divisible by that number (200x200, 300x300 etc.).

Image

3. Find the image you want. Right click and save the image somewhere on your PC.

4. Head over to http://www.imgur.com and upload the photo from the your PC.

Image

5. Once it's upload, you should be taken to the image's page where you'll see your image in the center of the page. Simply click the image and it'll open it up by itself.

6. In the URL bar of this page, you should see something that looks like 'http://i.imgur.com/QzPb4k7.jpg' except with different letters/numbers representing your image. Copy that address and head back over to Kanzenshuu.

7. Under 'Edit Avatar', paste in that address we just copied next to 'Link off-site:'.

Image

8. Under that, it says 'Avatar dimensions:', you can leave this blank but since we searched by size, simply enter in what you searched for. For example, if you put '100' in both of the boxes on Google, you'd put 100 in both boxes on Kanzenshuu.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Ajay! I can't seem to get into the site, but that's probably my slow computer's fault. I'll do it from the family computer when I have time.

Also, I'm probably the 508th person to say this, but that is one epic avatar you have there! :D
I'm still trying to see if I can catch every character who appears there.

I'm still rocking School Girl 18 right?

I can't remember exactly how I got it, it's been sitting in my photobucket for a while... I think a friend commissioned it for me
