Why didn't Mr. Popo take down Daimao?

Right after killing P.D. in a fight where they're nigh-equals, Goku meets Popo who slaps him around like he's nothing. So clearly Popo could have done the same to Daimao.

So.... why didn't Kami send Mr. Popo down to take care of business?

Presumably the same reason that Old Green himself didn't stop Piccolo, namely that...um...uh...

Something about gods not being able to commit suicide, and/or not wanting to interfere directly with the lower world and just let humans sort things out for themselves, or some such thing.

To put it simply, it was not his place to go down and do so, that was not his "job description" per-se. Nor was it Kami-Sama's place to go down there and deal with him too, linked bodies or not.

So they just let Daimao rampage like crazy, and kill/torture/oppress countless humans because it was "not their place?"

Couldn't they have just beaten up, and chained him away in some kind of super-prison and kept him alive there?

Problem solved! Kami lives and Piccolo can't harm anyone no more.


Or if that doesn't work, Popo could just go down and beat him up every single day he misbehaves, eventually forcing him to stop.

You know, the more I think about it, the more it bugs me that Popo or Kami didn't go down.

I mean, in the 23rd Budokai Tenkaichi Kami goes down to participate in the tournament to seal "Ma-Junior" away with the Mafuba because he had witnessed its use by humans. But wouldn't have Kami have already known of the Mafuba technique beforehand? So why not use it on an even weaker Piccolo?

But that was after becoming desperate and letting his grief over the trouble caused by splitting into two beings reach a boiling part.

Why didn't they stop him hundreds of years ago when he first rampaged and a couple of humans had to seal him away in a rice cooker?

I personally also call bullsh.. on that, i can understand Kaioshin not wanting to interfere with mortals matter (Plus, he was stupid, and clueless about everything) but King Piccolo was evil literally born from Kami, it was HIS fault, so he should at least stop evil he himself created.

If we are to believe that God exists, then the question naturally becomes why does he allow evil and suffering on our world. The most common answer is that we must find our own way through life. God can't take care of everything for us, otherwise we wouldn't really have free will to live as we please.

So, even though it doesn't make much practical sense to our practical minds, Kami's and Popo's reason for not stepping down is actually quite profound and a very simple but quite good and subtle take on that issue/answer by Toriyama.

Because Dragon Ball isn't a philosophical series and even though it had that brief philosophical reflexion about God and God's interference with humanity, this is a shonen manga and it was far more advantageous for DB's purposes as a shonen series to have Kami come down to face Piccolo and be defeated, only to have Goku save the day and surpass Kami, than to continue having Kami as essentially a philosophical figure.

I'd assume the idea there is that he's not going to die from using the Mafuba, since he's so much stronger than Mutaito/Kame-sennin were.

At any rate, he flat-out tells Goku when they first meet that gods can't commit suicide. So if the Mafuba really would have killed him then there's a bit of a plot hole there.

I've always been a bit fuzzy on the implications of the rule that a god can't commit suicide. How exactly is that worded in Japanese? That is, does it mean that a god is not allowed to commit suicide (may not) or that a god is somehow physically incapable of taking an action that would result in his/her death (can not)?

Incidentally, if it's the latter, maybe that's the reason he can perform the Mafuba without it killing him. It's kinda a get out of jail free card.
