The best thing about DBZ

Post by KakarotWarrior » Sat Apr 12, 2014 12:49 pm

I recently purchased this Goku figure after proving my superiority in DBZ: Battle of Z, platinuming the game 100%. I needed another figure of Goku to satisfy my need of owning a correct representation of the character. This one, in my opinion, is MUCH better than the Super Battle Collection re-release I got back in 1998 from Irwin Toys. Heh, that was when DBZ was at it's peak with the Ocean Studios voice cast. Yup, Ocean is by-far the best voice cast for DBZ, period. Honestly, people must be deaf if they prefer the Funimation cast; or even TOEI's original Japanese cast. Sorry, but Masako Nowaza doesn't do it for me as the voice for Goku. Maybe it's just me, but I can't tell the difference between her Goku, Gohan, Goten, Bardock and Turles voices and therefore I don't really consider her overall voice-acting abilities to be anything but sub-par at best. Kudos if you know what I'm getting at here, but it just reminds me of some stupid, pissed off, egotistical cat-avatar douche that can't share unreleased products because they are probably too busy shoving Goku's cowlick up their Majin ass, no?
Ocean made DBZ a hit cartoon series here in the West, and always put you on your toes with the first 50 or so episodes they dubbed. They are near perfection, and I for one am greatly anticipating Ocean Kai. Back to the Goku figures, this one on the left reminds me of the horrid Vegeta face pictured here:
It's just ugly as sin. The one on the right depicts the best look for a Goku during the early sagas. It's the best figure ever and I am glad I bought it. What do you think?

Ok the topic title don't match the topic. You should post your story on Ocean Kai thread and Db Purchase thread. I'm going to comment on the best thing about Db.

Live your life like a kamehameha! I interpret that as live life to its over.
Goten is one of the if not the best thing about Dbz.
How amazing the show is without and with nostalgia.

That's a shot from a Studio Cockpit episode. I love their animation and style; it's so dynamic and 90s.

I think both look terrible and outdated. There's no way that either is better than the Figuarts Goku.

You just said that they look outdated, yet you defend the disgustingly off-model Vegeta drawing? The Goku to the left has the same structure as that drawing. These figures are from the 90s so obviously they aren't as on model as the modern Goku figures because they were sculpted by hand. I take it that you might also like that big-necked Goku at the end of GT then, right?

Studio Cockpit had excellent animation, even if the character models were sometimes a little off. Even then, I'm fond of the exaggerated style.

As a result, it still holds value to me. Whereas those figures don't really have any redeeming qualities, and I think they look far worse than that screenshot that you showed. I personally can't see how either is "the best Goku figure ever" when we've got the much superior Figuarts, which is superior in both sculpt and articulation.

Yes, Studio Cockpit's animation is stellar, but I myself prefer on-model designs over fluent animation. But, by avoiding the question I asked at the end of my initial statement, I'm left under the impression that you like the big-necked Goku drawing that closes off GT. I always laugh when I see that, and people probably wonder how strong he is at the end.

It's certainly well-crafted and detailed, but that Goku figure doesn't represent early Goku, which is my personal favorite design for the character. As you can see, the Goku you've shown doesn't have the belt or the symbol on his gi. This goes completely against my reasoning for purchasing this awesome Goku figure. Plus, looking at the S.H. Figurarts' Goku, it doesn't look like Ian James Corlett's voice would come out of there. I can only see Schemmel or Nowaza with that one. Also, the legs remind me of cake icing on that figure.

I'm honestly confused now. Is this about the best things about DBZ or is this a topic about animation and toys.

The best things about DBZ which includes design, voice actors, and characters. Goten is just outmatched because he isn't near one of the best but, absolutely one of the worse I would say.

I love good animation, but I also can't stand crap like Last House's later animation:

Studio Cockpit's can look a bit off at times, but never really to the degree that I'm bothered by it. I understand how some could (and are) though.
KakarotWarrior wrote:I'm left under the impression that you like the big-necked Goku drawing that closes off GT.
Nah, I'm not really a fan of GT's style with their thick noses and those necks you mentioned, especially since there isn't much actual good animation within the series (it's usually quite stiff).

Goten is easily the best. He got the personality that defines Db(carefree. Just out with imagination and good action) . He's adorable. The youngest Ssj. Best attack ever(assault) . His manga outfit is the best. Goten is the GOAT. One of the worse? Lolno :lolno:

He hardly does anything productive unlike previous "child" characters like Gohan and Kid Goku. Plus, he rarely takes anything seriously. He also had hair like Goku then all of a sudden has a messy hair-style? He got bitch slapped by Pan and lost. Goku and Vegeta are the best hands down. Goten is a failure... didn't even had a tail when he was born. He is weak and one of the most annoying characters in the series.

1. Nothing productive? Watch the movies he appears in. Also bout time he appears villains was stronger than SSJ3. Also he's half of Gotenks.
2. Not take everything seriously. He's 7. Who grew up like a regular boy.
3. Just like Gohan. His hair got longer. He still got spikes in the front and sides (my avatar ect). Hair isn't messy. Its just LONGER.
4. Goku and Vegeta the best. Goten is the GOAT. Goku has main character disease and Vegeta overrated. Goten losing to pan was obviously a gag. Also Pan is a daughter of Mystic Gohan. As saiyans use full power during sex.
5. The tail is a recessive trait. Hardly a failure. Gohan a failure who can't beat anyone without someone holding his hand.
6. Goten is not even 2x weaker than Vegeta. Just saying. Goten > Piccolo
7. Annoying because he's that good. Goten is the best character

All those 7 reasons are false, Goten only exist for a butt buddy for Trunks. This just shows your bias towards the character and jealousy of Goku and Vegeta's reception.

How are they false? I said he's half of Gotenks(fact), Villans are stronger than SSJ3(fact), he's 7(fact), his hair grew(fact), tail are recessive(debatable) , and Gohan never kills unless someone holds his hand(Jr, Cell, and Bojack). Explain how they are false?

When I say Goten the best its an opinion. Why would I be jealous of Goku and Vegeta? They're anime characters.......

Also butt buddy? They're best friends. Krillin and Goku had similar relations

If you don't know what I mean by him only existing because of Trunks then you are blind in your own bias.

It was a joke. You didn't answer me. How is what I said false? I said he's half of Gotenks(fact), Villans are stronger than SSJ3(fact), he's 7(fact), his hair grew(fact), tail are recessive(debatable) , and Gohan never kills unless someone holds his hand(Jr, Cell, and Bojack). Explain how they are false? Hell I ain't even bias as previous topics showed I not pleased with Goten or Trunks being arguably on par with CG Goku

The things about Goten are false and the sex thing about being at full power is just fan speculation.
