Why doesn't Gohan ever so super saiyan anymore?

I know that after the super old Kaioshin did the 30 hour power up on him he said he no longer needed to transform, but I still thought he would in future battles when he needed more power. Instead he usually just gets his ass kicked without even trying to go SSJ.

Long story short, the Elder Kaioshin's power-up allowed him to access all of his power without needing to become a Super Saiyan. In other words, he's as strong as he would be as a Super Saiyan (stronger, really) while still in his regular state. Presumably then, actually becoming a Super Saiyan on top of that would either be impossible or wouldn't give him any further power. That seems to be the score in the manga, the main Z TV series, and DBZ movie 13 at any rate. GT shows Gohan using regular Super Saiyan without any signs of his "Ultimate Gohan", and BoG features both "Ultimate Gohan" and regular Super Saiyan Gohan, so make of that what you will.

The only thing I have to add is the confusion regarding Gohan's use of Super Saiyan in Battle of Gods. It's unclear if his transformation as part of the God ritual was purely for visual effect, or whether he was originally supposed to use the level throughout the film.

An original promotional image depicted him as using Super Saiyan to fight Beerus, and he appears on the film poster in the form. Following a Twitter backlash, it seems that he was recolored by the art staff to use his 'Ultimate' form instead during his battle scene, although the film's screenplay writer has since claimed that he was always intended to use that form in the script.

I think it's just that the Ultimate "form" supersedes Super Saiyan. When he flipped out at Old Kai when the ritual wasn't finished yet, only his eyes changed. When Gohan asked Old Kai how transform after the ritual was finished, the latter tells to him to basically just do what he does when transforming into a Super Saiyan, while throwing in a kiai.

The old Kaioshin specifically said that Gohan's new power is activated pretty much the same way as transforming to Super Saiyan; though Battle of Gods does show him transforming as part of the Super Saiyan God ritual, I think that's more of an isolated freak exception rather than a sign that he could still transform just like before. I doubt fetal Pan could already go Super Saiyan before even being born... so Gohan also being able to go SSj during the SSj God ritual, even though he normally wouldn't be able to transform anymore, seems like a possibility to me.

But whether or not Super Saiyan is still possible for Gohan after the old Kaioshin's power-up, it's pretty clear that it doesn't actually give him a boost in power anymore. If it did "stack" with that power-up, even if it was a relatively small boost (like 2x instead of the usual 50x), Gohan wouldn't have ever ended up on the losing end of his fight against Buu because he could just stack Super Saiyan on top of his "Ultimate" not-quite-base power and suddenly be kicking Buu around (even with Gotenks absorbed) just like he had been doing before.

(And who even knows what the heck is going on with him in GT. I assume they either forgot about his "Ultimate" form, decided to replace it with Super Saiyan for let's-make-everyone's-hair-gold-for-this-picture marketing purposes, or he somehow lost it over time.)

With GT, that came into play more than words can ever emphasise!

The Mystic form was just another transformation, hence it being compared to the Super Saiyan via activation. While new canon in BoG suggests that Gohan can still utilize the Super Saiyan form, he doesn't need it because the Mystic form is stronger.

I think he can go SSj and Mystic similar how he can in the video games. In BOG, he was Mystic against Beerus and he could only go SSj to save power.
