Just watched the extended TV cut! Man, I LOVE the new stuff! I think it's a big improvement to an already fun movie.

Alright, so this...there was nothing definitive, and the implications could just have been interview/marketing hot air (case in point, she said "if there is a new movie, please buy it on DVD" more than once). Like I said, I should have taken notes at the time, because after the fact it's hard to remember exactly what she said without putting words in her mouth.
Anyway, there was a host who interviewed Nozawa for a while, with an interpreter there to translate what she said (the host spoke Japanese himself and often asked Nozawa questions directly). At the end people in the audience got to ask questions. One person asked about the "rumors of new episodes" and if Nozawa knew anything about that. I have the sinking feeling this person meant the "200 episode new series" internet nonsense, but it led to Nozawa and the host discussing the Boo arc of Kai for a bit (it had come up earlier as well). The questioner then clarified that he had meant entirely new episodes rather than re-edited episodes like Kai, and the host asked if he meant new episodes or new movies. Even the guy himself didn't seem sure (apparently he had only heard very vague rumors), but from there they started talking about the prospect of another new movie. Nozawa said "it's a secret", and other stuff that added up to the sense that there might be something in the works, but she can't talk about it yet. Again, really wish I'd actually written stuff down, because despite essentially hearing it all twice between Nozawa and the translator, I really don't remember specific details, at least not with enough confidence to repeat. Other than the "it's a secret" bit and the part about "if there is a new movie, everyone please buy it".
There were some more questions (including one guy who asked if he could have Nozawa's autograph...despite there already being a scheduled autograph session in the next hour), and finally I got my turn to ask one. I'm lucky I managed to string a semi-coherent sentence together. Really, I should have asked for question ideas on Twitter or something beforehand, because I had trouble coming up with one. I finally settled on asking her about her feelings on BoG's ending. What I actually wanted to ask was something like "how did it feel to have Goku lose at the end of the movie?", but the host had talked a bit about BoG earlier, and had said "I don't want to give away the ending, but it doesn't end like any other DB movie, so definitely go see it for yourselves". As a result, I felt like I couldn't just openly ask about Goku's defeat, so instead I asked a more general question about her feelings on the end of the movie, given how different the ending was compared to other DB movies.
To paraphrase as best as I can remember, Nozawa said that with most movies, the ending just wraps everything up and that's it. But with BoG, its ending made it seem like the story would keep going. It gave the audience expectations for Goku's further growth. One of the things she likes about Goku is that he's always a student. A lot of characters who are really strong just think that since they're so strong, they have nothing more to learn. But Goku isn't like that; he's always open to learning more and growing stronger. So the end of the movie gives you expectations for Goku getting even stronger and challenging the god once again. There may have been another "if there is a new movie, please buy it on DVD" pitch around here.
Basically, it was a lot of "the end of the movie makes it seem like there will be another movie", without her actually saying there will be another movie. The most interesting thing was probably the bit about Goku re-challenging the god of destruction, but even that's really just something the end of BoG implies will happen eventually. In fact, when the interpreter got to that bit, she just said "spoilers!", presumably because people who hadn't seen BoG wouldn't know why Goku would need to have a rematch with anybody.
Anyway, there was a bunch of other interesting stuff, but I'm tired now, so I'll write it up later.

Understood. No worries, and thank you for the clarification. I do hope they make another movie in the future.

Thanks for the report.

I would prefer a new series instead of a movie series. The next movie isn't going to be announced any time soon, and assuming that the program will be like with BoG, after it will finally be announced, it will be released after around 9 months, in Japanese theaters. And after that, it will take months to be released on DVD, in Japan. And if the new movie is going to be a new continuation like BoG, instead of a spin-off like the other movies (meaning that it's not a random story where the good guys just beat random bad guys, the Dragon World & the main characters will develop more like it happened in BoG)... It will take too fucking long to watch it.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

It would be interesting to see the Makaioshin stuff finally touched upon, yeah. I dunno how that will now tie in on top of the God of Destruction, but I'd be very interested to find out.

Can't we just let anyone spell it as they prefer? I have a feeling that I'm going to get accustomed to Bills through the dub.

I don't care for "Bills" myself, but why are people having such an incredibly strong knee jerk reaction to it? It's a valid romanisation of "ビルス" even if it isn't a particularly good one. (And a filter would be dumb since "Bills" is a valid English word that can have meaning outside of the name of a purple talking cat.)

I personally have a strong reaction to it because this is Kanzenshuu, a site dedicated to strong documentation and logic. "Bills" satisfies absolutely zero requirements for anything at all. If you read the article that Ajay linked, I can't understand how anyone could possibly advocate for it (if I do say so myself...!).

I agree that it's dumb (and potentially irritating), just like how Viz's usage of Zolo over Zoro in One Piece bugs me to no end, but going out of your way to reply to a post that refers to "Bills" within it's text with nothing but "Beerus*" seems pointless.
(And I realize the irony in complaining about people complaining about this, especially when I agree with them about the name to begin with.)

This might be off topic. But you're using irony wrong.SaiyamanMS wrote:I agree that it's dumb (and potentially irritating), just like how Viz's usage of Zolo over Zoro in One Piece bugs me to no end, but going out of your way to reply to a post that refers to "Bills" within it's text with nothing but "Beerus*" seems pointless.

Verbal Irony- Sarcasm
Irony of events- A waterpark catching on fire.(A firehouse catching on fire is a bad coincidence)
Character irony - When you know something the character(s z) don't. Like how Goku didn't know about Piccolo Damio but wwe the fans did.

Aren't the English video games already using the Beerus spelling? I imagine an English release of the movie would do the same.UltimateHammerBro wrote:Can't we just let anyone spell it as they prefer? I have a feeling that I'm going to get accustomed to Bills through the dub.

His location is listed as Spain though. I'm pretty sure the Spanish dub was using Bills, if I recall?Ookalf wrote:Aren't the English video games already using the Beerus spelling?
