This thread hasn't been "on track" since it was created. The topic posed the question on whether or not the Cell arc is the lowest rated of the series, however, there has been little to no discussion about actual episode/arc ratings at all. The only "evidence" on ratings you presented was a random IMDB or some such poll which, in all honesty, is an extremely poor basis for determining the arc's ranking, especially considering it only takes into account one particular version in a series that has many. If you honestly want to discuss this topic, then you should present actual ratings from TV airings in multiple countries, SJ ratings from the series' original serialization, etc. If you are unable to obtain these things because you don't want to put in the effort to look and/or they just aren't available, then it's not a topic you should have begun. As with most of your other topics, you've asked a particular question (most of which are pretty similar) and then simply thrown that question to the wayside in order to bring the discussion around to you spouting about how much you hate the same things about the series over and over again.thatdbzguy wrote:Let's get his thread back on track.

Re: The Cell Saga Is The Lowest Rated Saga?
As Vegetto said. Do you have details? Did you just base this off of one website! I seen other websites rate Cell arc the highest. Hell just read the post i made.thatdbzguy wrote:Let's get his thread back on track. The RoSaT can have it's own thread.
Reasons why the Cell Arc sucks:
- Trunks is a Mary-Sue
- VegetaxBulma was forced beyond all hell just to get another Saiyan in the picture
- Characters act stupider than ever before
- The Cyborgs, including Cell, are some of the most boring and bland villains in all of anime/manga
- Plot holes galore
- Whether you like the RoSaT or not, you can't deny that it's an obvious asspull
- Gohan being shoved into the spotlight so late in the arc despite doing almost nothing all throughout the beginning and middle parts of the arc feels forced
- Gohan's OOC-ness
- Piccolo's OOC-ness
- Trunks being useless after his introduction
- One-sided fights galore
- The most pitiful final fight in all of manga/anime
- #16 is a rehash of #8
- Gohan wasn't even capable of killing Cell on his own despite how this arc was supposed to set him up as the new savior of Earth
- Vegeta is at his absolute worst
Well this is awkward....The Cell Saga Is The Lowest Rated Saga?
Found a old flashdrive. It was from when I was a rising AMV maker. I ask the fans what Arc should I make an AMV on. So I asked popular editors to speard the poll. The poll since deleted and honestly could probably with hard work be found again. But my flashdrive from 2012 has the results. I found it really cool and I had to share it.

Sadly YouTube copyright it so I had to make A Namek arc one. Back then I said Saga and appealed to Eng dub fans for cheap views.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn7fE4B4eXk. Here's the video if anyone curious.
If we talking about ratings why don't we just get TV ratings from Toonami, Fuji Tv, Tooniverse, or other stations that showed Dbz and compare ratings to all arcs. Not going to change opinions most likely
So as you can see I provided facts and ask questions. This topic isn't for YOUR OPINION on Cell Arc(which isn't fact btw) as you made a topic for ratings.
Re: The Cell Saga Is The Lowest Rated Saga?
It's hard for me for me to say if the Cell Saga is the lowest saga for me, it's either that one or the Buu one.
On one hand, the first half of the Buu Saga is a lot more fun and refreshing than the Cell Saga. On the other hand, the second half of the Buu Saga is a lot more boring than the Cell Saga and I felt like the story had gone to shit when the potara fusion was introduced.

Re: The Cell Saga Is The Lowest Rated Saga?
I've already stated why I love the Cell saga, although I'm ready to admit that I might be very biased because Gohan is my favorite character.
OT but on the other hand, the reason why I dislike the Buu saga is that it doesn't really do anything new at all. Goku killing the bad guy? It's been done a million times before. Vegeta acknowledging Goku surpassed him? He's been raging about that ever since the saiyan saga. The non-Gokus being beaten and contributing next to nothing to the fight? Every DBZ movie ever, except for 1, 10 and 11 (I think)
Also, in the fight against Buu there's nothing at stake. Earth gets literally blown up and everyone is all "lolz whatevs Dragon Balls". That's so anti-climatic even for Dragon Ball, or maybe especially for DB because come on, at least there was a sense of real loss in the previous arcs, with Kuririn and Roshi killed along with Shenron in King Piccolo saga, Chaozu not being able to be revived in saiyan saga and Tenshinhan choosing to stay dead with him, Kuririn supposedly being killed for the second time and blown to pieces by Freeza, Goku choosing to stay dead after Cell... There's none of that in Buu arc. I get that Toriyama wanted to go back to writing gags and I really liked that part of the Buu saga because I love his stupid jokes, but at least there could've been SOMETHING at stake in there. I mean, obliterating the whole universe seems like something every villain would attempt, and frankly, by the end of the fight when it's just Goku, Vegeta and the insufferable Mr Satan (my least favorite character in the franchise) I was bored out of my mind. At least I liked Goku biting Buu's head thingy

I've always liked Gohan best in the Namek arc and not the Cell arc. My favourite manga moment for him is when he hid the Dragon Ball from Vegeta, he showed a lot of courage there. Intense moment, too.
Yeah I'm with you on the Vegeta thing. He seems to admit that Goku is better than him at the end of every arc, then retcons it the beginning of the next arc. Hell most thing Vegeta does gives me the vibe he changes his mind every five minutes.

Re: The Cell Saga Is The Lowest Rated Saga?
I don't think Gohan is at his best in the Cell arc either, but it's his "moment of spotlight as the hero" so I appreciate it for that. I also think he had a lot of character growth in it (which goes to hell when he goes Ultimate in Buu arc, but oh well). I do think his best moments are in Namek with Kuririn, they work great as a pair, and are really fun to watch because neither of them have the "ultimate shonen hero" character traits.

Vegeta actually seems like the kind of guy who would think "Wait, what was I thinking? Of course Kakarot isn't better than me!" the day after he had his big moment.Kid Buu wrote:I've always liked Gohan best in the Namek arc and not the Cell arc. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Haha yeah, that's true.
In Movie 9, he stays true to his "never fight again" motto. Actually, by that time Toei seemed to have a better sense of DB than Toriyama. Even the Buu arc felt more enjoyable in the ''toon.

Look it's kind of hard to argue with you when all you do is present us with a list of bullet points. Why do you think Piccolo is out of character, why do you think 16 is a rehash of Android 8. Re: The Cell Saga Is The Lowest Rated Saga?
Speaking of that, I think that is where the Vegeta vs Gohan filler beatdown is actually more along the lines of what Toei thought Toriyama was going for until he released the actual chapter following the episode (I think that is how it would have went. Correct me if I am wrong). I mean, that seems like a thing Vegeta would do, and he surely would have not stuck around with the Nameks and Earthlings, the very people he killed just a few days ago. Also, reactions to Vegeta's actions, such as Bulma's, come across more genuine and in character in the filler than what actually happened in canon. I am assuming they, Toei, thought the manga would have just had a simplified version where Vegeta would insult Goku and fly away, and Toei added the fight in just to give it a little bit extra. However, I assume, Toriyama retconned that thought after the airing of the episode or at least during production of it, that it was too late. The next episode pretends that whole skirmish never happened.Kid Buu wrote:Haha yeah, that's true.

I will give Toei the benefit of the doubt, where they thought that was where the story was headed seeing that up to this point, it would have. Vegeta could even be venting his anger out on how Gohan and Krillin jipped him out of his wish. It makes sense. Who knows, it is possible that Toriyama told them to go in that direction in the first place before changing his mind.
The filler isn't out of place prior to the episode that follows. I feel that Toei actually had a better point of view in how the situation, if it was real, would play out over Toriyama if we consider how all the characters would act in that situation.

I agree that it seems more in character, but I'm not sure the events can sustain that hypothesis. Sure, by the end of the Freeza arc, Toei was dangerously close to catching up to the manga, but I really don't think it's possible that they were so close that their production wasn't even one chapter ahead of the manga.

Nope. #16 appeared in the manga in December 1991. He appeared in the anime in April 1992.TheGmGoken wrote:Wasn't 16 revealed in the anime BEFORE the manga?Gaffer Tape wrote:I agree that it seems more in character, but I'm not sure the events can sustain that hypothesis. Strange, since if the manga was already out by then, how could have Toei created such a plot hole?
