I "constantly criticize" DBZ because I find significantly more wrong with it than I do right. If you want me to say positive things about it, look at Kid Buu's post.

Regarding the Batman thing, I've just never been into superheroes, even when I was a little kid. The most I've seen is some live-action superhero movies, but I never watched any superhero cartoon series or read any superhero comics.

All I'm going to say is that Its funny because Goku's Latin American Voice Actor(Mario Castañeda) is the father of Twilight Sparkle's Latin American Voice Actress (Carla Castañeda).

I've seen the first two seasons of FiM, but I just never came back after the end of Season 2. It's not that the show was bad, it's just that it was too familiar and I guess it just couldn't keep my interest after that. It's a good show, but the "been there done that" feeling was too strong for me to keep watching into Season 3.

It reminded me a lot of The Powerpuff Girls (a show I really liked back in the day) and you could tell that some of the people involved with PPG worked on FiM (I think they initially shared one of the show creators, but then she left FiM to work on a DC Comics show?) but, I've seen The Powerpuff Girls already. I recognize this writing style, and while it's a good writing style imo, it's just too late in the game for me to get hooked I guess. I just could not bring myself to care by the time Season 3 was ready to premiere.

In regards to Adventure Time, I'm still watching along with that, but a lot of the time I feel frustrated with it because of how they stretch things out on CN now by only showing you what to me is half an episode of new content (11 minutes as opposed to 22), but that's because I was used to getting entire half hour chunks of new episodes for shows way back when on CN. Also I think you have to be active in AT's fandom to really get the fullness out of it, and I'm not active in that fandom at all so when fanservice shows up it doesn't do all that much for me.

It's like watching two cardboard cutouts of the character models sliding across the screen. There's no sense of motion or personality despite all of the money spent.

I agree with this. To me it feels like it's meant to be a homage from people who don't know Dragon Ball very well or understand what makes the fights entertaining. Or possibly they did understand and just felt they didn't need to put in the effort for people to like it anyway given their target audience.

To be fair, America is a lot stricter than Japan with their censorship rules. You can't really get away with showing people rapidly punching each other in the face or slamming one another to the ground out of fear that kids might imitate it.

That certainly seemed like a homage to DBZ. I guess it would have been even more similar if the fight lasted 4 episodes though. I haven't watched any of this season yet but I'll probably watch through it now it's finished.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks like a bad flash cartoon with a budget? The over saturation of Colour makes me wanna throw up . It's like "LOOK AT THE COLOURS COLOURS HERP A DERP FLASHY OOOH AAAH." Reminds me of how Sonic Lost World went to far with colours as well. Or in other terms the Faulconer "Never stop playing music" exept in visuals. "We must have flashy colours all the time or else people will lose interest."

I'll say the fight is better than something like Goku vs Pamputto or any other joke fight, but that's it.

Well that would depend on one's definition of maturity, doesn't it? Personally I feel absolutely no qualms about saying that, at least sometimes, FiM is a fairly mature series. Because to me it's entirely possible to be aimed at children and still be mature. "Maturity" does not equate just "containing stuff that isn't appropriate for children", quite the contrary, I'd say a lot of stuff that actively aims to be EDGY and VIOLENT and so on and so forth, is in fact incredibly juvenile. Like, to me, My Neighbor Totoro is more mature than many supposedly mature action-movies. Now of course, do note that I said sometimes. I can just as easily think of several episodes of FiM that just made me roll my eyes. Prime example? "Spike at Your Service" from the third season. Notable for taking one of the most overused plots ever, (character gets their life saved by another character, swears that I WILL REPAY THIS DEBT NO MATTER WHAT and ends up overly clingy, trying way too hard to be helpful and only causing trouble) and playing it completely 100% straight. Like, at least normally when they do an extremely overused plot they at least try and do something interesting with it or make up for the weak plot with good comedy or something such, but that episode was just the epitome of trite. So what is "mature" in my mind? Basically, well-written is mature. Something that doesn't feel like it's talking down to its audience, has good characterization, and doesn't rely on cheap gimmicks to grab people's attention. Which is why I say that FiM or Totoro is more mature than much of what comes out of Hollywood, because let's be fair, much of that tends to contain a significant amount of gratuitous violence, cursing and/or fanservice purely to seem more "edgy". And that to me is far more childish than super-deformed talking horses learning lessons about friendship will ever be. (Disclaimer: This does not apply to movies that use violence, cursing or fanservice because it's actually needed to tell the story effectively. There are situations where those things are perfectly justified.)

That was my first thought too. It just looks so...soulless. As for the actual fight, I think it's more a homage to the generic idea of a DB fight - beams, getting smashed through objects, and teleporting. Toriyama was surprisingly good at choreographing a fight and tended not to overuse these elements; that was more Toei's style as they were easy filler. The MLP fight was very boring and repetitive, in my opinion. Which is impressive considering it only lasts 2 minutes =P

This fight wasn't anything special. In fact, it was extremely boring. It was just a beam spamfest with no strategy or rhime. No fist to fist combat.
It's a good homage, but it's shit when compared to Dragon Ball fights.

It looks like how they handle shows for like 4 year olds and under. Put in a nauseating amount of colour to the point it's an eye sore. I have no opinion on story and characters, but the imagery looks no better than other flash cartoons with budget like Johnny Test.

I think it's laughable comparing this fight scene to DB or DBZ. Not even close.

Off topic, as a grown man who likes The Power Puff Girls, I see nothing wrong with grown men liking MLP. BUT, saying MLP has better anything than DB might be an overstatement.
