Maybe not to you but to me he is.
Vegeta since the birth of Trunks he stayed along with him, Bulma and others although afterwards Vegeta thought that blowing up himself would also destroy Majin Boo but it didn't, and before that he talked to Trunks and hugged him which was really nice of him.
Between Goku and Vegeta, Vegeta's the better father of the two. Son did care for his family but most of the time he was hardly ever around, it's like those fathers in real life that don't give a rats ass about their own sons/daughters.

I'll just say this again
Damn its not like Goku before Z started did not take care of Gohan for 4 years. Oh wait he did. After Boo I'm sure Goku didn't pay attention to Friends but hang with his Grand kid and sons. Yea let us forget these moments.

Just being in close proximity to your child doesn't equate to better father. He doesn't show affection for his son and probably doesn't hang out with him and play with him much, if at all. Goku has also given his life to save his family. As has been pointed out, Toriyama skips over the long stretches of time Goku is with his family because there's not much story there, but he's with them for years.

Dont see whats the problem. Gendo Ikari is there after all...

To be honest, i dont see the point of watching an abridged version without know the original source.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I was wondering what's up with Gendo being on that list too. Hiro Nohara (Shin Chan) and Koji Aono (Rosario + Vampire) belong on there more than him. Grant the latter only appears in 2 episodes of Rosario, but he loves his son and got him into that school.
And while Dragon I wonder on, like Hoenheim, he had a good reason for abandoning his son. (For those not too far into One Piece, the government is really big on "sins of the father" thing.

So by Funi's standards to be a great dad for a kid it doesn't matter if they're never there for you, a ladies man, completely ignoring them and putting more attention in another kid or giving them a curse that, sure is great and is the most OP thing ever, but also causes them to be arrested numerous times & be a criminal of the entire land (Guess which kid this is?

). Though can't argue Maes & Ranka, those are legit picks and awesome dad's.

Well on the back-lines he did play a big role.
Goku did sacrifice himself for his family, He even refused to come back to life as they would be targeted .
He did save Gohans life when he was fighting freeza, Raccom and Nappa. He trained Gohan in the time chamber ,he saw Gohans hidden potential and made him reach it .
He was seen training with pan too and he always supported him .By Sayien standards he should be the father of the century .
...well it all made sense till the end of buu saga anyway
But i still wouldn't call him the best dad ever. Mainly because he did little for Goten

What was he supposed to do for Goten? He was dead. I know with the Dragon Balls, death in the Dragon Ball universe doesn't always carry the finality it does in the real world, but I'd say it's still a pretty legitimate excuse. At least he made up for his prior absence during and after the Buu Arc.

Let's see. True he missed 7 years. But as soon as he met him he embraced him and Goten loved him. Goku later was with him for 10+ years before he left with Oob. However once in awhile he trained with Goten. Even gave him advice before he left. He did better with Goten than most fans think he did with Gohan. Goku being a parent isn't shown much cause it wasn't important to series. Vegeta was shown more for character growth.

Goku doesn't embrace Goten in the manga. He just points at him and says "Eh? That's my son?!"

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I'm just about done with the concept of reboots and making shows that were products of their time and impactful "new and sexy" and in line with modern tastes and sensibilities. Let stuff stay in their era and give today's kids their own shit to watch.
I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about
your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

This is one of few times I use anime for references. As Goku father hood wasn't important at that time and was more of "Goku back!". The very next panel shows Goten and Trunks sighing up. I'm sure more stuff happened off screen.
Don't forget stuff like this too

I don't get how anyone can say that Vegeta is a better father than Goku. Right before he died, Vegeta even admits he had never even held Trunks before that moment. Instead, when Trunks was a baby, Vegeta was perfectly uninterested that his infant son was being blown up by an evil mad scientist. Goku wasn't around all the time (often due to unplanned circumstances) but when he was, he was always shown as being invested in and affectionate to his children.
After years of observation, I keep getting the feeling that at least part of this extreme negativity towards Goku's parenting skills is in reaction to FUNimation's admittedly poor handling of Goku's character. "He's not that goody-goody hero who makes some stupid 'hope of the universe' speech or lets villains go because it's the right thing to do. He just wants to fight, and he's never there for his children." The problem is that it protests too much. It goes too far in the opposite direction. And it's true that, towards the end of the series, every character got dumber and their bad traits got worse, but people seem to forget that Goku did make a lot of decisions based solely on his moral judgment, and that, while he was absent a lot and not the ideal sitcom father or even a traditional father, he was still shown frequently to be a pretty damn good dad.

There's also the fact that Christopher Sabat, who plays a big role in FUNimations handling of the series, is kind of an avid Vegeta fanboy who
has a bias against Goku.

I think the funniest part is that his supposed one redeeming quality isn't even true.
The Monkey King wrote:RandomGuy96 wrote:dbgtFO wrote:

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

No one. Gohan isn't a fighter. So Goku is strongest fighter. But that's a different debate for in universe

It doesn't matter how strong Gohan is, because it's not like Akria Toriyama or Toei Animation will give him an important role again.
Unfortunate but think about it, the other Saiyans seem to have gotten a lot more focus since the manga ended.

Rule is you gotta be Goku rival or look like Goku. Goten soon won't look like Goku haie
