And I still hate that CGI final scene as much as before. Worst part of the movie.

Anyway, hope the american fanbase do their job and support this. Despiste that, the movie is still awesome.
I have to agree with your comment about the dub.
I disagree but we are both entitled to our opinions my friend, i enjoy the dub. I feel the voice actors put in their effort to capture our imagination and i appreciate what they do. Additionally do not worry i will be supporting this release in America seeing it in theaters in NJ or NY (depending where the theatres have the movie available) as well as purchasing the Funimation home release when it comes out. A final side note, it seems that this trailer is partially comprised of placeholding voices (voices not specifically recorded for the movie), so i wouldn't jump and say the dub is worse than you thought now. Cheers, i'm really excited to see the Battle of Gods Funimation dub in theaters.

They definitely used archived audio from Sean Schemmel's previous recordings of Goku (I recognized at least two of them as being from the Kai dub). I think what happened is that FUNimation needed (or asked for) a trailer immediately, but since Schemmel only recently began recording his dialogue, no dialogue from the actual movie was ready for the trailer yet. So they had to use dialogue he had already recorded as a substitute/placeholder for the trailer only.

I know better than to judge a movie's acting by the trailer alone, but honestly, I liked what I heard, and I frickin' loved that trailer. I'm even more excited now!
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I'm a bit indifferent to the trailer. As many have said, we can't really judge the quality of the dub for the most part due to most of the lines being reused from Kai. I didn't really care for Jason Douglas' Beerus in BOZ, but it seems to be better here. I like Ian Sinclair's Whis. Glad to see some of the Z voices that I missed are back, though I would have preferred more consistency in the cast between Z or Kai and this, rather than the hodgepodge of old and new voices.

Funi's anniversary logo makes me nostalgic for old Cartoon Network logos, that part was neat. :3

Re: The trailer itself

Shenlong sounds different. I know it's been a while dub-wise for me, but he sounds different.

I'm so used to "Gokû" at this point that it bothers me to hear the emphasis on the wrong syllable. ^^; I can't unhear the "that's not how that word is pronounced".

Whis sounds alright.
Beers I'm not so sure on; doesn't sound cat-like enough.

Honestly, "Experience Dragon Ball Z like never before"...if you've only watched from the Saiyajin arc up to the end of the Cell arc.. Timeline-wise the tone of this movie fits with the tone of the Buu arc, imo.

Ssjg Gokû is still so cute. Magenta hair is love. <3

Ah, they really took a lot of footage from the end of the movie for this (and that Shida Naotoshi bit; can't blame them, that part is very cool). The trailer cut does the same as some of the Japanese trailers for BOG; makes it look more action-packed than it is. ^^;

But then I partly think "What else are they gonna do? Even more so here than in Japan, they can't make a more accurate cut of the trailer because a lot of this movie relies on a nostalgia for the pre-Z DB that isn't as strong here as it is there.".

I look forward to reading/hearing how the dub turns out, but I really don't have much interest in it (though I am happy Funi was able to license BOG).
On hiatus.

It sounds like they didn't apply the usual pitch filter to Shenron's voice. It's too high, so it just sounds like regular Sabat doing a deep voice.

I know there's nothing official yet but do you guys think I should save a little money back for a possible DVD/Blu-ray release of Battle of Gods this year? I thought maybe it could get released in December? Maybe? Hopefully? please? :P

The BoG website lists the voice acting cast for the FUNi dub. It lists 18 as being voiced by Meredith McCoy (Z voice of 18) instead of Clinkenbeard (Z Kai). I just asked Colleen on Twitter if this was accurate, and she confirmed that it was.

I'm not sure why they went with her again. For some of the salty Z dub fans? Maybe they thought she was better suited for an older 18?

I didn't even think about that, but you're right - the Japanese trailers did the exact same playing up of the action compared to what we actually got (which I love), so I don't see why dub fans will be any more or less disappointed than sub fans were. It'll probably be roughly the same reaction, if I had to guess.

As far as that cast list goes, huh...I'm...honestly kind of confused as to why they got Meredith McCoy or Brad Jackson back. I'm happy to see them back in a way, but at the same time, it's just...confusing. Are they going to come back for Kai now too, and add yet another straw of inconsistency to the Kai camel's back? Hebert as the narrator, I'm honestly not too surprised about though. FUNimation seems to want to keep each brand under the Dragon Ball 'separate' with a different narrator. DB had Brice Armstrong and now John Swasey; DBZ had Dale Kelly before switching to Kyle; GT had Andrew Chandler; and Kai had Doc Morgan. I do kind of wonder if they'll get Morgan back for the rest of Kai though, since he doesn't do anything else for them.

Still super excited and can't wait for this movie to come out. I need a DVD release date FUNi! Gah!

Ahhh what the heck? I didn't even notice that. That's pretty disappointing. I do remember hearing Sabat or someone talking about that announcer situation, though.

I'm fine with the marketing being action-focused as long as the dub itself captures the proper tone of the movie. Let the action lovers be disappointed, I say. This movie still has a couple of great fight scenes. If they can't find enjoyment out of the scenes in which these beloved characters just act like their lovable selves, then it's their loss.

Dragon Ball is about puff-puffs and pat-pats and dumb gags and these whippersnappers need to show some gosh darn respect.

I agree, I enjoy both the fighting and the characters spending time out of fighting context. I love all of this movie for that Dragon Ball feel and moments with the charecter and not all focus needs to be on fighting all of the time. Nice perspective MagicBox!

The start of that trailer...Terminator 2 anyone? I guess we know where Yamamoto's working now.

On Shelong's voice, I actually thought it sounded quite close to his Japanese counterpart here.

Must admit, I'm still irritated that they removed 'Kami to Kami' from the logo. It just makes it look incomplete. I dunno, maybe I'm being too nit-picky, but I just feel like it would add that "It's cool, because it's Japanese element." :P

Glad we're getting the TV version, that's more than enough to justify owning both the Japanese version and the FUNimation release. It is a little sad that Japan haven't received it themselves yet though.

Honestly, I'm a bit iffy on some of the new scenes, like the recap, but overall the new additions do make quite a significant difference to the film. Although, a 100 minute run-time is a bit ridiculous when you consider the content of the film.

YES! Everyone else I showed this to thought he sounded fine, but he sounds like he wasn't really trying, to me, at least. It sounded like a mix of his Yamucha and Zoro from One Piece.

FUNimation has always been so hit-or-miss on this. For the longest time they pretty much didn't want any fan to know it was Japanese, then they wanted everyone to know it was Japanese, and now they're a complete mix, doing what they want when they want.

As far as the trailer is concerned, I don't know that it's worth voicing my opinion at this point. I guess the one thing I will say, or at least am willing to admit, is when I first heard "Super Saiyan God" in dub form, I cringed, a lot. Even though we still get e-mails and comments asking why we pronounce "Saiyan" wrong, and considering I haven't listened to the FUNi dub is such a long time, it still grates my ears to hear it that way. And I'm not trying to bash anyone here, I'm just saying that I'm so not used to it that it is almost abrasive to me at this point.

Here here! That's a big part of why I don't understand why so many that follow the original Japanese version still didn't care for the movie. There may have been a time when the dub fanbase was the primary 'it's just about action' crowd, but I don't think that's the way it is anymore by any means...

I really dislike the way the trailer misrepresents the film. Many who would actually enjoy the film will pass it off as a bunch of action-packed nonsense and not see it, while those who won't like it will go see it expecting 100 minutes of fighting and leave the cinema before the fighting even starts. A more balanced trailer would have been far better for the film. You really don't want most of the audience to come out disappointed.

"Basically you have Toriyama's vision of Dragon Ball, followed by Toei's, and then also followed by FUNimation's. " - Nonaka Machine Gun B
Someone said this in anime news network, I think it is Kanzenshuu user B, doesnt matter that I agree with this.

They are making this move look far too serious. People that still didnt watch the movie will expect the typical DBZ movie and will be disappointed. Like some people already said Battle of Gods is more DB than DBZ, meaning more gag less action. Personally I loved the movie but like a lot of fans i was expecting more action too.

From what I see on internet, GT seems much more popular than DB. Is DB loved in USA?!
Seems like to me a lot of people just ignore it.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
