Is Studio Live the one that animated Vegeta to look Lupin like?
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

Can you post a screenshot, please? Vegeta and Lupin are two things I'd never consider mixing.ABED wrote:Is Studio Live the one that animated Vegeta to look Lupin like?

Sorry, I'm not tech savvy, but it's from the episode where Vegeta destroys the Namekian village and steals their Dragon Ball. There's one shot in particular that's Lupin like - the one where Vegeta pantomimes firing a gun.

This shot? (sorry for shitty source)
It's a really off-model shot and I believe it was animated by Studio Live, could be wrong.

Yep, that's the pic I was referring to. Is that from Studio Live?

Yup, that's what I mean. Doing DBZ no justice. I also didn't like Shindo Pro's early work. Though, the episode where Gohan and Krillin had to fight Ginyu in Goku's body had top notch animation from Shindo I'd say, even though they recycled a lot of animation throughout.
I guess you guys should know Studio Live also did work on Lupin. Which makes sense.

It all makes sense now. Lupin is such a master of disguise that he has no trouble disguising as Vegeta.

Yes, but Pirates 1 is more connected with 2 & 3 than Pirates 4 is. That's my point.ABED wrote:They all form a single story with DB, but it's not one arc. And Pirates 2 and 3 aren't a part of the same story as 1. 1 is it's own story with some elements carrying over. If it's two different arcs, it's not a single story.
It wasn't his original intention, but after Vegeta's death, he did fight to avenge them.He doesn't fight to avenge them, it's a byproduct.

But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Regardless of whether it's more or less connected, it's still doesn't make it all a single story arc. 1 has a different antagonist than 2 and 3, just like the Vegeta arc and Freeza arc have two different main antagonists and climaxes.Yes, but Pirates 1 is more connected with 2 & 3 than Pirates 4 is. I guess one could take Goku's speech as him resolving to avenge his race, but I never took it as such and think it's a stretch. He didn't care for them at all, and they weren't virtuous people.

Re: Watching all of DBZ Japanese Subbed (1st time)
I had not thought of this before. Call it the curse of having been introduced to the story through the turbulent 1998-2003 days when nobody quite knew a lot of the series and the Namek arc was "the one where Gokuu becomes a Super Saiyan." Now I wish there would be an alternate take where Vegeta kills Freeza.Gaffer Tape wrote:It's hard for me to talk about this without addressing my problems with the Freeza arc as a whole, so here it goes:
Bardock has no meaning to the Freeza arc because, and maybe you should sit down because I'm about to rock your world, Goku has no meaning to the Freeza arc. The Freeza arc is not Goku's story. It is Gohan, Kuririn, Freeza, and Vegeta's story. Goku just shows up halfway through and is basically their hired gun. But Goku's not the one who befriends and earns the trust of the Namekian people. He's not the one hiding from Freeza and his minions. He's not the one fighting back against someone who controlled his life. He's not the one forging uneasy alliances because it's his only choice to survive. Nothing in this story is about Goku, and it's not until Kuririn dies that he has an actual, tangible motivation for fighting Freeza. Freeza, for his part, barely knows who Goku is. Goku's not the one who's been screwing up his plans. Their entire conflict boils down to, "Um... you're here... so I guess we'll fight now." So, no, this story is not about Goku confronting his destiny or avenging his people or ascending to a new plane of existence or anything else like that because the story is not about Goku, period. He's only there to fight.
So if inserting Bardock into the beginning of Kai is some kind of attempt to rectify that, to make it seem as if there's something for Goku here, then I guess I can respect that... but it still doesn't work. It's just too little, too late and still doesn't connect to anything that actually happens.

Why? Vegeta's a prick and shouldn't be rewarded for it. At most you could say Goku should've been more involved. Even so, I still think he was used well.

I wouldn't mind if Vegeta beat Freeza myself, only for Goku to arrive on Namek and have a Saiyan Saga rematch.

You don't have to be a nice person to kill another not-nice person. Considering Vegeta had been the primary figure of antagonism for Freeza throughout the arc it would be interesting to see how Vegeta winning would have played out.ABED wrote:Why? How the hell would he have gotten to that level of strength?JulieYBM wrote:You don't have to be a nice person to kill another not-nice person. Freeza's the ultimate villain, unless Goku is stronger than him or somehow is able to beat him, it's a bad move to have Vegeta win. Part of what makes it work is that Vegeta is so arrogant that he picks a fight with Freeza and gets trashed. I know what you guys are getting at, but I prefer how it played out in the anime with Vegeta breaking down into tears. Just because he has a history with Freeza doesn't make him the ideal character to fight the big bad.

I'm aware that they are different story arcs, but someone can merge them into one bigger arc, because Vegeta was still a henchman of Freeza, even if he was searching for the DBs on his own. The story arcs can be divided or merged in various ways:ABED wrote:Regardless of whether it's more or less connected, it's still doesn't make it all a single story arc. 1 has a different antagonist than 2 and 3, just like the Vegeta arc and Freeza arc have two different main antagonists and climaxes.

Re: Watching all of DBZ Japanese Subbed (1st time)
Finished the Freeza Arc, and that Garlic Jr. filler. Goku vs Freeza was awesome, loved every minute... all 5 of them.
Garlic Jr. Arc was okay, I never liked it much to begin with, but I've only seen it in english, it's much more bearable this time around. Maron's voice... is grating... I can tell how dumb she is without reading the subtitles, she screams "no brains". Also, having a more proper translation cleared up any confusion on why Garlic Jr. came back and why Kami's predecessors wouldn't let him through. I was always lost with that.
I'm about to hit Trunks' appearance, after another filler episode I think (the one with Gohan's tutor). I'm looking forward to it.

No he's not, going after the DBs was an act of defiance.because Vegeta was still a henchman of Freeza
I don't think you understand quite what an arc is. There Is no Namek and Freeza arc. It's all the Freeza arc. Also, the 25th Budokai is part of the Buu arc. Arcs have a beginning, middle, and end.
He did say it, but it makes no sense why he would try and avenge a race he doesn't care for. What are you talking about? He literally said that he will defeat Freeza for all the Saiyans & Namekians he killed.
