I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods

You say Goku looks decent but he also looks much younger.

This is why it's good that Kai is a remaster and not a remake cause if this is how bad the art and animation is in a movie with a higher budget and fundes from the government then how bad will a lower budget remake look ?
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods
Key animators are paid by the cut (shot), not the detail of the drawing. Very few talented animators actually drew Vegeta in the film and when they did it was usually at a distance. Otherwise Vegeta was mostly drawn by weak or average key animators who adhered to the character model as best they could or had their own artistic quirks rubbed out by the animation supervisors.Flame Dragon wrote:I think he looks much better in the (2008) special, which is weird since I don't think the budget was higher than Battle of Gods.
Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods
I too am not a fan of how everyone looked in the Battle of Gods movie, but I guess we are going to be stuck with it.
Krillin looked the worst, due to his hair style... why did they change it so much?
Videl doesn't even look like Videl either.

Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods
I loath Vegeta's look in Battle of Gods.
In fact, Cell Saga Vegeta's look is the best. Maybe Tadayoshi did most of the work at his peak, while Buu Arc was mixed-bag. Animators like Masunaga Keisugi, Shingo Ishikawa, Shimanuki Mashahiro, Hakamada Yuuji etc gave each look for Vegeta on their respective episodes....
Still, gotta say I love Vegeta's look frm DBZ movie 8~13.

Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods
I'm not a fan of BOG's character designs at all, but Vegeta being skinnier doesn't really bother me. At least it matches up closer with his official weight...

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Haha. You just enumerated all the reasons why I love GT much more then the rest of Dragon Ball. This drawing style is my favourite by far.Attitudefan wrote: Though to be fair, this movie has better designs than GT; GT had huge noses, ginormous chins, low foreheads, eyes that were too far apart and oversized muscles. Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in BOG
...why would he need the Saiyaman outfit under his normal outfit when he's got that fucking watch? That could've (and should've) had both his Saiyaman outfit and his gi in it.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Honestly I'm still more annoyed a little bit at the weird way Gohan switches costumes without warning. Okay, so he had the Saiyaman outfit on under his normal outfit, that's fine. But...then he's suddenly in the orange gi without explanation? Whaa?
Also, I think the hairstyle change is more jarring.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I'm disinclined to believe that there was anything wrong with the way Vegeta looked in the Buu saga.
Very well-defined muscles but still has the general appearance of being short, which he is.

Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in BOG
Oh believe me, I agree that the watch would have made more sense, but the animation itself seemed more like he was whipping off his first outfit, and underneath lay the Saiyaman one...for...some reason. And then no explanation at all for where the orange gi came from. If they had just remembered the watch, this part would have been a lot less confusing.Saiga wrote:...why would he need the Saiyaman outfit under his normal outfit when he's got that fucking watch? Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods
The new animation style looks cheap and rushed in general. The style they carried over from Episode of Bardock looks atrocious and that was what they went for in BoG rather than using the infinitely more faithful 2008 special design.
I wish they had kept Vegeta as he was in the Kid Buu arc, where his skin was tanned in base form, and his mucle mass was more pronnounced but not judding as it was in the Cell saga and his face was more brick-like. He looked strong and intimidating considering how strong he was supposed to be and his age.
The new style of Vegeta makes him look lanky, and his muscles look more like fat on a skinny body similar to how Kid Gohans were. I dont like new vegeta.
I could wish they made his SSJ2 more like how End Vegeta looked, more defined with sharper, wider hair - more shapely mucles, and a more thicker scowel to his face. They need to make them look noticable. His SSJ2 appearance in BOG looked bad, his muscles werent even visible. All they did was recolour his hair.
This is what his SSJ2 form should look like:

I contrast this, I never liked the Dragonball look where everything was overly-simplistic, rounded bodies, Goku's eyes huge and circular constantly looked swollen. A lot of the general artstyle there looked too much like Yu-yu Hakusho. I prefered the Buu-GT Saga design where characters looked heavier, thicker and bulkier (Not physically bigger but the 3-toned shading on their muscles gave them depth) I dont like the Sloping forehead of Vegeta in some scenes but that is how he looked more often in the manga than in the anime.Attitudefan wrote:Nah, dude. The 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai and Saiyan arc style is the best. Piccolo looks like a demon. The characters have this gritty yet simple look to them (which, ironically, looks more realistic, especially the muscles). The faces and bodies have wonderful proportions. Oh, and the animation is the best around that point in the series on all studios' accounts.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:I agree Cell Saga Vegeta was the best looking Vegeta. The series has never looked as good, and never will again going by the trend I see.

I dislike the entire animation in Battle of Gods. I'm no fan of modern animation techniques, but Battle of Gods is just tripe.

Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods
I am fine with Vegeta being a hero and part of the cast, but they keep on softening up his character design. His Battle of Gods design makes him look like a friendly young man at least he had stuff to do in this movie and not just copy the save a character from a minor attack routine from Piccolo. Interesting I think that Vegeta Jr from GT looks closer to how I prefer Vegeta compared to the bright and skinny modern Vegeta.

Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods

I also think Piccolo looks really ugly. The way he's drawn is... okay i guess, but his skin color is totally screwed up.
It's too bright, looks like puke green.
This is how his skin color should be.
Re: I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods
Well, he is stood in the light in that shot. His skin colour was perfect fine for a majority of the film.

That screenshot in your preferred shot is luminous and not what the cels look like at all.

They're pretty similar overall. One is just more contrasty compared to the general washed out look of modern anime.
