Thats something I don't know how to predict, most of the cool stories had come from Toei and his editors as far as I know, Toriyama's field in writing for dragonball is comedy which is sadly the most least important aspect in this point in DBZ. If hes writing the background story himself, we might not get the interesting depth in plot we usually see in the movies. If this movie is going to return to the heavy action focus then thats usually where his editors come through with the delivery. If I could advise Toriyama I would tell him to just focus on the prologues and characters, not the plot but just let him approve the direction. His alterations to Beerus, SSJGod and the mythos for example saved the movie. He usually always perfects the characters.sintzu wrote:Nothing can be worse then movie 11Hellspawn28 wrote:Even if we have a bad director on the project, I hope the movie will have a good story to back it up. Umm what do you mean, Toriyama's field in Dragonball was not just the comedy, he did everything.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
Hey for those of us not in the know, why should the new director worry us just because he wasn't a great animation supervisor ( which I don't necessarily agree with but...)?
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
The animation supervisor is not the only person to recruit talent. The director and producer does, too. The Opening was directed by Nagamine Tatsuya, who probably called in Ootsuka Ken, Satou Masayuki and Kurita Shin'ichi. Given that Nagamine chose to work on the Opening I figure there was a higher number of allotted drawings, so it's no surprise in-house guys like Kawamura Atsuko, Tate Naoki, Shida Naotoshi, Oonishi Ryou, and Satou Masayuki would have asked to jump in regardless of who the animation supervisor was.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Despite Yamamuro being the animation supervisor, he was able to assemble the talents to work on the Ultimate Blast opening. He got Tate, Shida, Oonishi, and other guys to animate it and it came out pretty stunningly beautiful. I wonder if Yamamuro being promoted to the director indicates that he's more willing to get more talents to take on the movie project...
It will be hard for any of the in-house talent to miss out on this film at least in a small capacity. It is not very clear what Yamamuro's contacts are with freelancers, though. Kan'no Toshiyuki and Studio Live worked on the Dragon Ball: Ultimate Blast, so we can say that Yamamuro probably called him in since Kan'no worked on a number of in-house Toei Animation episodes, too.
Should Yamamuro pass on the character designer role--as I type this I'm stick trying to process that he is now the director--I am hoping he asks Tate Naoki or Oonishi Ryou to take the baton. Tate Naoki at least has experience working with Tanaka Hironori and Mori Hisashi, given his work on One Piece Episode of Chopper, as well as Kuroyagani Kenji. Tate himself is a wild and lively animator, so at the least his own animation will pop. If we get Oonishi Ryou we will have a young, talented animator who has had tenures under talented animators and directors like Tate Naoki, but also has his own distinctive style.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Yamamuro handed the baton to one of peers. Shimanuki Masahiro is not a character designer for anything now that Toriko is over (he did the gourmet stuff). Ide Takeo is probably busy as the head of the Toei Animation Animators Union, but he hasn't shied away from Dragon Ball in recent years. Kan'no Toshiyuki was an animation supervisor as recent as Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, so perhaps he too is a possibility?

I love Lord Slug. I'm hungry for character design from someone other than Yamamuro. Makes me hopeful to think it might actually be.
Who did the art for Gokû and Beerus in the BOZ ad? Ssjg Gokû looked distinctly different in the face in that ad compared to BOG.

True, but his editors did help in some area's like the cell arc,His original idea was to have 19/20 as the main villians but his editor said it was stupid,So he brought in 17/18 and he said the same thing,Then he brought in cell and he said he was ugly so toriyama transformed him and his editor still said he was ugly then he did it again and it fainally pleased his editorRetan wrote:Umm what do you mean, Toriyama's field in Dragonball was not just the comedy, he did everything.

Lord Slug and Metal Coola were bad to me since they were poor rehash of stuff that we already seen. The only thing I liked about Movie 6 was Metal Coola's design, the animation and the fight scenes. Movie 10 and 11 to scream that they were running out of ideas when you bring back the same character twice in one year. Instead just rehashing old ideas, I prefer Dragon Ball when it does brand new and fresh ideas like BOG did.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
Based on what he said, when he writes for DB he prepares to focus more predominently in comedy than in high-intense action. Its his section of the series he puts most of his creativity into. Hence why BOG was more if not too comedy oriented over fighting with an alledged God. Its his editors and Toei that look towards the encouraging the action.Retan wrote:Umm what do you mean, Toriyama's field in Dragonball was not just the comedy, he did everything.

Toei is nothing without Toriyama's manga to look at. GT is enough proof of that, it's basically directionless.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
I like Kan'no a lot. He worked on the opening of Ultimate Battle 22, didn't he? Despite him being a terrible animator back in the early days of DBZ, he improved greatly. He has a great sense of on-model. He also has his own distinct style of animating Dragon Ball. I don't mind him take a position as a character designer. Then have Tate, Oonishi, Shida, and Ide act as animation supervisors.JulieYBM wrote:The animation supervisor is not the only person to recruit talent. The director and producer does, too. Are there any other animators who used to animate Z and GT that could take on this project? Masahiro Shimano and Akira Inagami, perhaps?

Yes, Toriyama stated that it takes place after Battle of Gods, if that's what you mean. I doubt Beerus and Whis are going to be ignored, since they're all the rage now. So, most likely it's more or less a sequel.kidtrunksssj wrote:Is This Movie A Continuation Of Battle Of Gods Because Thats What The Youtuber UnrealEntGaming Said.
