it seems that the timeline of trunks is the original timeline, the timeline goku is a dimension created as a result of time travel.

dragon ball multiverse is apparently based on Marvel multiverse. each of these other universes outside the multiverse
are what we call megaverse: own kingdoms inhabited by different creatures, with different laws of physics and its own collection of alternate dimensions.
ps: merely a theory.
Official Handbook of marvel universe 2006.

Most imporantly "A universe is a single-dimension reality, such as Earth 616".
Official Handbook of Marvel Universe 2008 (Glossary)

Dimension: "universe or realm containing space, time, matter , and energy".
Dimension has been on panel shown interchangeable to universe (thank you Mr. Master for the scan)

"These universes are often popularly called dimensions"
DBO: mentions that these timelines exist in the same universe, the universe 7.

Chouzenshuu 4 states a few times that Universe 7 is where DB takes place, where Goku and co. live and have adventures, etc etc, without any distinction between the manga/anime/movies or whatnot. So, presumably no alternate versions of Goku and co. in the other universes. Even in the movie, Beerus mentions the other universes to say that there may be unknown guys out there even more incredible than him or Whis. The other universes represent new frontiers and unknown challenges, not stuff we've already seen before like GT or SD. The idea that, say, manga!Goku lives in Universe 7 and GT!Goku lives in Universe 6 while SD!Goku lives in Universe 8 may be appealing to some fans, but it's safe to say that nobody running the series cares enough about continuity to think in those terms.Luke Groundwalker wrote:Where was this confirmed? Besides, if they were alternative universes, wouldn't they be infinite instead of only 12?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I would make GT a universe and then the other 10 could be completely different if I was writing.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
Yes, since the multiverse has already been established since the Cell arc, each of the 12 "universes" is a separate multiverse within the omniverse. Each multiverse consists of potentially infinite universes with the same initial conditions but which diverge from each other at different points in time, while the multiverse themselves are fundamentally different places from each other.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
Well, I don't think the multiverse has been established since the Cell arc. I believe that alternate timelines don't mean different universes, but that different timelines can coexist in the same one, so all the timelines created during the Cell saga belong to Universe 7. The only evidence I have for this is Beerus mentioning how twelve universes exist, each with its own God of Destruction. If a few of those universes had been created thanks to the actions of Trunks and Cell, they'd be exact copies of the unaltered timeline (up to the point they diverge) so their GoD would be copies of Beerus and not separate Gods.

Some franchises have a multiverse with just two universes. I remember Slayers stated that Lord of Nightmares created four universes and I remember the Wheel of Time franchise only had two universes. A Multiverse is a collection of universes with two universes or more.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Besides, if they were alternative universes, wouldn't they be infinite instead of only 12?

Or in the case of DC, the Multiverse used to be infinite, then was mostly destroyed (the last five universes being merged into one), then was remade into 52 Universes (what it is today):Hellspawn28 wrote:Some franchises have a multiverse with just two universes. Honestly, if BoG didn't specify 12 universes, I'd have put the DB main universe as one of the 7 "Undiscovered" universes just for the fun crossover. Though the god set up doesn't gel all that well with DB.
I must admit, the time travel thing does make me wonder how Trunks' whole scenario works out with the multiverse.
I wonder if Toriyama will address the multiverse in this movie. Perhaps our foe for the movie can be another one of the Gods of Destruction. Or at least have Goku go to another universe.

Yeah this makes sense, though I definitely think there are different continuities in each universe. Aka Universe 7 encompasses the entire series, but it also encompasses the variety of multiple paths it takes as well ala Trunks timeline, or separate timelines for the movies and whatnot.Herms wrote:Chouzenshuu 4 states a few times that Universe 7 is where DB takes place, where Goku and co. live and have adventures, etc etc, without any distinction between the manga/anime/movies or whatnot. Makes me curious what these other universes really encompass and if it even matters to the bigger picture of things in Dragonball.

Of course the different continuities are included, as alternate timelines. The series, guides and DBO all reinforce this. They just aren't spread out over the 12 Universes like some people think, they are all contained in Universe 7's Time Storage Vault, over seen by the Kaiojikan in DBO (and probably Xenoverse).Luke Groundwalker wrote:Yeah this makes sense, though I definitely think there are different continuities in each universe. The new DB multiverse that BoG mentions doesn't seem to be like Marvel's. The majority of Marvel's different universes, such as Earth-295 (Age of Apocalypse), Earth-811 (Days of Future Past), MC2 (Spider-Girl, A-Next), and Earth 3515 (The Reigning (Best alternate Earth ever)), are split off from the main 616 timeline. They are more similar to the timelines as described in the Cell Arc, than the multiverse that BoG introduces as described in supplemental material. The DB multiverse seems more like DC's, as Mewzard mentioned above.valfranx wrote:snip
Marvel's multiverse is weird though. It has plenty of totally separate universes as well, such as Earth-1610 (Ultimate), Earth X, and Earth-311 (Marvel 1602). And then you have all of the totally separate realms, like Cyttorak's, the various Hells, Continuum, and others.
Also, that "Dimensions=Universes" quote is outdated, and flat-out wrong. While some characters have equated them in Marvel's history, these are typically characters that have no idea what they are talking about, and this has been refuted by more recent works. Dimensions typically exist within various universes, being a part of them, and yet separate at the same time, such as the Heroes Reborn pocket dimension created by Franklin Richards at the conclusion of Onslaught: Marvel Universe. Asgard and the other realms that Yggdrasil encompasses are dimensions. Earth-616 is a universe.

Question about May release date vs March:
In a best-case-scenario in which production on DB15 begins around the same time of year as production of BOG began, just how much would the extra two months of production improve the quality or add to the length (or both) of the movie? Would it be more like getting the equivalent of BOG's extended version as the theatrical cut, or would it still be around the same length as the theatrical cut of BOG, but have smoother and higher quality animation?
Did they just announce this movie early or are they actually giving them a longer amount of time to make the movie?

On hiatus.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
The average key animator can handle between two and four cuts a day. Two is the usual amount, although depending on the sort of cut one might only finish one per day or even upwards of four. Inoue Toshiyuki has done four-to-five cuts in a single day. With scheduling as much of an issue as it is and extra month could mean getting a talented freelancer on board when he has an opening in his schedule or having extra time to correct drawings of unskilled animators. If a talented animator is willing and able an extra month or two could mean sixty or higher cuts of sublime quality. Shida Naotoshi first revealed he was working on Dragon Ball Z: Kami to Kami on 01 November 2012. On 13 November 2013 he tweeted that he had finished his work on the film. That means he did the storyboard, layouts and key animation drawings for these cuts in that amount of time. Shida is almost always allowed to storyboard his own cuts, even when he does not receive official credit, so we have to factor that into the timing as well. In about two weeks Shida made the best action sequence in the film. Imagine if he was able to work twice as long and do a higher number of cuts. Even they were not all action in nature his drawings would make dialogue cuts look much better.Chuquita wrote:Question about May release date vs March:

Shida doesn't even have to the only action animator. There are plenty of animators who specialize in action animation. Hire them to work on the film for a month or two longer than normal and the movie could be a great improvement.
