Their sales bombed with Raging Blast 2 and they didn't know why, and they didn't know what more they could do. They glossed up the graphics, polished the game as much as they could, added plenty of characters including characters never before seen with a newly rendered anime. Yet it still failed, why asks Namco Bandai. If Spike had promising ideas they would've gone with a Raging Blast 3, but what more could they do, add GT and a hell load more characters, original story mode - but hey, wait a second, they're just rehashing exactly what they did with the Tenkaichi series. It's the same old sh** all over again. The only difference is, they tried to make the Raging Blast series a bit more solid than the Tenkaichi series, but problem with that is damn it it's boring. You couldn't play Tenkaichi 3 competitively with mechanics like Z counter, but honestly who's really playing these games for that reason? Oh well done, you can memorise every combo sequence and follow up in Raging Blast 2, congrats. The game has no character, no flare, it doesn't even feel like a DB game you seen the menu screen, you heard the tracks, and that darned galaxy mode is the worst offender. Honestly I've never felt so alone in a game before, I wanted to switch that crap off within 10 minutes of purchasing and playing it.

I'd rather see a Budokai Tenkaichi 4 than a Raging Blast 3. No seriously, I would prefer them to go back to developing games for the playstation 2, and looking forward to playing as bulma and the turtle. Let Raging Blast die.
Little harsh. The first Raging Blast game is the only Dragon Ball fighting game that actually nails perfectly the Dragon Ball feel. Either it being with the graphics, the story mode, the soundtrack and the actual gameplay. Never got why Dimps gets so much praise at all. Budokai 3 was a very good game and all, but not very Dragon Ball-like.

In my opinion, of course.

IMO, with the exception of no story mode, Raging Blast 2 was the best game on the previous Gen. The only other game that was on Raging Blast 2 tier was Burst Limit, but even that was incomplete.
"There are many types of monsters that scare me: Monsters who cause troubles without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood… and then, monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others: They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they’ve never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them… because in truth, I am that monster."

The problem is that they are never consistent. They make RB1 and it feels like a hollow Tenkaichi game, except with better and modern graphics. Then they go the same route and make RB2, but invest time and energy into changing the graphics for absolutely no logical reason other than just for the sake of it instead of expanding on the gameplay way more. RB2 did better in terms of gameplay with more melee and defense options, but overall they slowed it down too much. Yes they added new characters, that's cool but it didn't feel overly new I concur.

Then for UT they change the graphics yet again and dumb down the gameplay even more. It feels like themselves don't know what they want.

What difference would calling it Budokai Tenkaichi 4 instead of Raging Blast 3 make? I really don't get that mentality. They could've taken Raging Blast, add more characters, and call it Tenkaichi 4, and keep everything else intact, because it's obvious that the only thing the majority of the people who play DBZ games (not counting people here of course) care about, is roster size and the 3D Tenkaichi/Raging Blast-esque gameplay.

Raging Blast was a superior version of the Tenkaichi games in any way I can think of besides the character roster. Calling it "hollow" is an insult.

I disagree. Compared to the last title of the Tenkaichi series it felt absolutely stripped of everything the former series' epitome had offered. It was the same business plan: make a game without much content and gameplay options and then add successively more in later installments.

The Tenkaichi series was filled with unnecessary mechanics that nobody really cared about. Raging Blast either got rid of them or made them less complicated to use. It's not a good fighting game, sure, but it's a good Dragon Ball (Z) game, and that's what it tried to be.

Indeed, don't get me wrong, the game offered me many hours of entertainment and I admire its quick pace compared to its successor but I cannot ignore the countless times I felt frustrated that I could not continue or experiment with certain attack chains the way I did with BT3. It just felt cut short.

Well I've made up my mind. BN is not going to go back and do a sequel for an old franchise, Burst Limit was dropped for a reason. I just hope that we can just get one more great 2.5D DBZ game on PS4/X1 :D

When I say or said Budokai Tenkaichi 4, I meant literally returning to the actual game BT3 and just adding to it; so it would basically be a playstion 2 game. But you didn't note my sarcasm clearly. I was emphasising how much I wouldn't want a direct sequel to RB2 by stating I'd rather they returned two generations and continued development on a game made 10 years ago.

What you should probably note is that when people say they want a BT4, RB3, they actually mean going back to the previous version and developing from there. They want developers to actually travel years back, rather than moving forwards. I don't understand, why do people still ask for a Raging Blast 3? It's not gonna happen, other than the fact Spike is clearly fed up of churning the same horse**** why should we return to a game made 4 years ago?

Honestly InfernalVegito is completely right. RB1 "feels like a hollow Tenkaichi game". Despite the noticeable improvements to mechanics and its solidity, it's bland. That's the reason why so many people like BT3, even though the game is broken as hell people are able to get more enjoyment out of it then the likes of RB ever could. (I'm neutral towards BT2/3 BTW, I was probably like 10-12 when I had it, but my memory is not so strong). I actually preferred RB to RB2, maybe it was due to the overall feeling of the game, but I sort of understand why some like RB2, they are able to do a load more different combo sequences rather than what was restricted in RB. But that really doesn't appeal to me. I don't get satisfaction out of learning to perform a follow up sequence which every character (animation wise) owns and is bland/uninteresting as hell.

Personally I can't see how these games can appeal to anyone over the age of 11. Just because we move around in a full 3D environment and get to dash across the stage performing generic purple wave #27, in my eyes it doesn't suddenly make a great "DB-like" game.

What is a DB-like game for you and how as DIMPS even come close to making a "DB-like" game? Closer in character models, closer in animation, closer in story telling, closer in actual dialogue, closer in the environments, closer in movesets and closer in sound than the original Raging Blast, at least. Because I just don't see it. Budokai 3 (or Burst Limit) is a fantastic fighting game. A much better game than anything Spike could ever produce. As a Dragon Ball game however, it doesn't have the same feel to it.

I'm a little confused here. When I think of a "DB-like" game I think of an RPG/adventure-esque sort of game. I'll be flat honest, the only major game that gave me that kind of feeling (besides the games on the GBA) was Sagas. Anyway, when people talk about a "DBZ-like" game, is where I'm confused. First off, who came up with the idea that a DBZ game has to be 3D in order to be like DBZ? Just look at the Marvel vs Capcom series. Like DBZ, if the fights in MvC were replicated in a cartoon or live action movie, those fights would move all over the place, and yet they've managed to make use of the 2D fighting mechanics in their games (and I see nobody complaining for that matter either), so when people say that a game has to be in 3D in order to be like DBZ, I just roll my eyes.

I agee with Donie, Raging blast has no relevance for our desired progression anymore. There is nothing more they can do to milk the slim hopes of a BT4 people want so badly. If they did make it, it would just show making RB was a waste of money and time. There would be nothing they could do to make Xenoverse look bad the way Dimps is totally stomping on UT right now.

Raging Blast 2 was a patch-level improvement not even truly a sequel. Controls were still awkward, characters were still all unbalanced, Ai spammed constantly and player animations were still stiffly programmed. Then theres the fact that it added literally nothing new we haven had before from them. It infact just stripped down BT3 down to a barebones rehash with minimal changes and clunkier mechanics. How people want a RB3 over Xenoverse really makes me question this fanbase's concept of quality and how they could hate Burst limit, the only DBZ game that actually felt fast enough to be DBZ and fluid enough to replicate it.

Spike had given up after RB2 barely sold dust. Then UT happened, Namco claimed the gimmicks were over and we'd at least get a real cleaned up BT3. They hyped it up as "Project 2011" and Instead lied to us about the game's intentions and thought we'd buy it anyway with all the QTE nonsense. If that was their idea of "something new" then there is nothing they could really do at this point. Make an UT2 with RB2's gameplay? sure some people would like it but its still just a recycled RB2.Why would you buy what you already have? It would need an overhaul Spike has never been capable of doing since BT2. Then what? Make a RB3? By doing what? recycle everything from RB2, fix nearly nothing but the flashy effects and just throw in 5 new characters to call it a day?

Here's another thing. Why when someone criticises Tenkaichi they are automatically assumed to be pro-Budokai? I said Tenkaichi and RB are not great "DB-like" games, I never said Budokai was. In my opinion Burst Limit is the only DB fighting game which actually genuinely makes me feel like I'm a DBZ character. But just because a DB game is in 3D doesn't automatically levitate it on DBZ-ness scale.

I fully agree with Black_Anime_Fan, but is something I wasn't bothered to address beforehand. A game based on an existing franchise can come in various forms, just because it follow a particular format doesn't mean it doesn't work or is any less DBZ. There was a user saying Budokai should be the default format when desiring a DB fighting game, I couldn't agree less. We should have variety. I wouldn't blame someone for saying that Budokai is a Tekken rip off and is nothing like DBZ (as has been said many a time in the past).

What I'd like to see after XV? Well, XV2 and eventually XV3. My hype shades are off, I'm convinced that this game is going to be THE DBZ fighter. The game is only in it's earliest stages and it's just gotten so much right. Man, forget Tekanichi and RB.

Yes! Variety! Most of the people on Facebook/Youtube/Gamefaqs hate 2D and their excuse is always "its too restrictive" and "Its not DBZ" then i ask them would they like variety in dBZ games and they say "NO!" I'm just like >_>

Those people get on my nerves honestly, its never about what actually plays better, its about which game lets you fly around and turtle easier.

With BN having the always moving foward mindset, after Xenoverse i feel like were gonna get something a little different like BOZ(horrible Example i know :p) . Xenoverse seems to be the Ultimate 3D game of DBZ, really dont see how they could top this with a sequel.

Those are the bad Spike DBZ fanboys. The ones who most likely cry to Bandai Namco to bring back Spike after Burst Limit.
