Is the Anime in the Manga Continuity?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Is the Anime in the Manga Continuity?

Post by xmysticgohanx » Sun Aug 31, 2014 2:43 am

The JSAT has Bubbles, Toriyama has mentioned some of the Saiyan arc filler in interviews- Yamcha's baseball career, Tien's adventures with Launch, the Tuffles. The anime also has the South Kai before the manga did iirc. BoG and the JSAT have Anime colors and I've heard BoG has other Anime-only stuff (tho admittedly I can't think of any). Chozenshuu 4 has a series timeline with EoB, Bardock special, DB with filler, DBZ movie 1, DBZ with filler, DBZ movie 5, JSAT, BoG, GT, and GT special. Is there anything else I've missed and what do all of you guys think?
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)

Canon as a concept is based on only being applied in hindsight, so.

I'm pretty sure Bubbles isn't filler.

The Internet summed up in four words.
"This sucks. Make more."

You're right, he's not. Gregory however, is, so that's probably who they meant.

No one has said anything about it so you can take what you want,I consider what ever from the anime, interviews, games, ect that doesn't contradict the manga to be canon to it until said or shown otherwise
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Not quite. South Kaio debuted in the manga a little bit before he appeared in the anime's afterlife tournament storyline: the chapter where he stops in to watch Goku training came out before the first episode of the afterlife filler aired. However, Grand Kaio appears in that filler story arc a long time before he's introduced in the manga (well, I say "introduced", but in the manga Piccolo just mentions Grand Kaio in passing). Toriyama did the character designs for Grand Kaio for that filler arc and had a hand in designing the layout for the afterlife (like the airport to heaven and whatnot), so that's how the anime got the jump on the manga there.

I've heard BoG has other Anime-only stuff (tho admittedly I can't think of any).
Maybe the the added scenes are anime-only.
English is not my first language!
I'm still waiting for Dragon Ball in Super...

There doesn't seem to be any anime scenes here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/65846913@ ... 763946525/ (Thanks again Tanooki Kuribo)
btw: yeah I did mean Gregory. I actually did mean South Kai but I'll just pretend like I meant Grand Kai

Here is a list of canon material that I personally subscribe to:

-Dragonball Minus
-Jaco
-Dr. Slump
-Dragonball manga
-JSAT special
-Battle of Gods
-Statements and facts made by AT

(To a lesser extent, fan theories that are logical inferences of available information I hold as tentatively true. I do not hold anime filler as true, nor do I hold unofficial mangas/movies as true. At best, they can be used as secondary sources in a fan theory discussion but only carry slightly more weight than fan fiction.)

I'm honestly not sure how to answer this question because... we see things unfold differently in the anime as opposed to the manga, so... no? (I guess I did know how to answer it, but don't really see how the answer could be anything but "no.")

The anime is a adaptation of the manga, so no. You did forget to mention that Dende was the God of the Earth in DBZ Movie 6 a year earlier then he was in the manga and anime. I would imagine either the anime staff at Toei knew what AT had in plan for the upcoming story lines or AT saw the movie, and like the idea of Dende replacing Kami.
