Favorite What If

Post by Hellspawn28 » Tue Aug 05, 2014 2:33 pm

I'm pretty sure that this thread has been done before, but I seen nothing new in the past few pages. What's your favorite what if stories in DBZ video games? Mine are:

#8 vs. #16 in Budokai Tenkaichi 3/Sparking 3
Cell's story mode in Budokai 1
Freeza's story mode in Super Sonic Warriors 1
Goku and Bardock meeting up in Other World in Super Sonic Warriors 2
Ginyu Force Shakeup and The Audition in Raging Blast
Semi-Perfect Cell and Metal Coola teaming up in Super Sonic Warriors 2
Super Perfect Cell vs. Super 17 in Tenkaichi/Sparking

That's all I can think of for now.

All the ones from Budokai 1. And the RB1 Ginyu Force Tryouts, Goten and Kid Trunks' foolishness, and Yamcha vs. Vegeta.

Buu absorbing Tenshinhan and Yamcha in Budokai 2. He seems so upset about it.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Wait, the what now?

For me, it's probably either the 'Raditz turning good' bit in Budokai Tenkaichi 2, simply because the way they handled it was actually pretty interesting; or the Akkuman V.S. Freeza stuff in...was that also in 2, or was it in 3? I forget. Either way, that one was just hilarious.

I've been meaning to go through and do thorough summaries of Ultimate Butoden's What If stories. Maybe I should finally get around to it. Unless someone else has already done something like that.

Apart from Ultimate Butoden, the first Supersonic Warriors game stands out to me as having some great What Ifs. My favorite is probably Gero's, where he's essentially recast as a bumbling Pilaf-style villain whose creations are just never good enough to impress the Z Warriors. Supersonic Warriors 2 had some good ones too, but I feel like they used up most of their best ideas with the first game. Of course, the real highlight of Supersonic Warriors 2's story mode is the laughably bad English translation.

My favourite is the Supersonic Warriors 2 one where Gotenks befriends Boo. It's really cute and heartful. Unfortunately the other what ifs in that game were for the most part nonsensical or just horrible.

I also like Budokai 3 having Oob fight Omega to save the world, even if there's absolutely no build up and it sort of comes out of nowhere. The best from Budokai 3 is probably the scenario of Gogeta vs Gotenks, or the end of Vegeta's story with him fighting Goku.

Is that a what-if of what would have happened, if those Guys didn't shoot Bee and Mr. Satan?

I'm not entirely sure, it's been a while since I played it. It does take place before Boo splits, anyway, because that happens in the what if (although I don't think the gunmen are involved, it might've been Vegeta that did it) and Gotenks beats Evil Boo.

The first what if I played and it did left an impact in my mind were those from Supersonic Warriors.
I really enjoyed Freeza killing Goku and Vegeta taking the mantle of SSJ.

I tried to play Ultimate Butouden on emulator as I don't have Nintendo DS, but as it is in Japanese, I didn't knew what the what-if's were about.

Yeah and Akuman vs Freeza and King Cold was kinda funny idea. I would never imagine story like that.

Okay, I'll check on youtube to see, if I can find some walkthrough videos and see for myself.
