The end of Muscle Tower. Hatchan has destroyed the Tower along with General White (allegedly) and had his bomb removed by Dr. Frappe. I'm going to guess episode 42 was filler. It was too goofy to be part of the story (maybe). I also forgot about this Dr. Frappe who apparently created Android 8.

So... I know later on Gero is the creator of the Androids, how does Frappe play into things? Is he only around for this one episode? I only really remember the Tenshinhan Arc and Piccolo Arc of Dragon Ball well, so I'm trying to remember without... spoiling myself (if you can even call it that).

I believe there was an official handwave in a guide or something that stated he was more of a co-creator.

Alrighty! So I've been watching and now the flamboyant General Blue has come into play.

Episode 50 was pretty awesome. The animation by studio Junio was really impressive. It's been a while since I've seen a great animated cut for a couple episodes now, so it was quite surprising. More specifically, the scene where Blue accidentally get's caught by an electric eel and is being shocked, then turns around and gives it an almighty death grip! It was really smooth and well drawn. Same goes for the lava scene with Goku and company. Good stuff.

An episode or 2 earlier, there was a line where Bulma still refers to the show as a "gag anime". How long is it considered as such? I know it's still pretty goofy, but there's some serious stuff going on here.

That is the legendary Toshio Furukawa of Urusei Yatsura fame voicing General Blue. He later does Piccolo.

Dragon Ball Episode #50 (11 February 1987) has four key animators: Aramaki Sonomi, Shimizu Yasuyuki, Ide Takeo and Nakatsuru Katsuyoshi. The latter two are actually employees of Toei Animation. I'm not sure if the former two are members of Toei Animation, Studio Junior, or simply freelance. It's unfortunate that studios were not credited under key animation for Dragon Ball.

I recognized Nakatsuru's drawings, so I immediately thought it was Junio. Interesting. So the first two you mentioned, do they ever comback to the series? Don't recognize those names at all.

Aramaki Sonomi is a key animator for Dragon Ball: 1, 4, 9, 15, 22, 29, 36, 50, 57, 64, 71, 82, 89, 97, 104

Shimizu Yasuyuki is a key animator for Dragon Ball: 36, 50, 57, 64, 71, 82, 89, 97, 104, 112, 119, 125, 132, 139, 146, 153

Neither works on Dragon Ball Z, in fact both seem only to work on episodes in which Maeda Minoru is the animation supervisor. This leads me to wonder if they were indeed fellow employees of Studio Junio. Satou Masaki and simply worked on other Studio Junio works after Dragon Ball. Satou Masaki, who was also from Studio Junio, was a key animator for Dragon Ball Episodes 89, 97, 104, 112, 119, 125, 132, 139, 146, 153 and continued into Dragon Ball Z until Maeda Minoru stopped acting as a animation supervisor.

I see. Guess I need to give the Animation guide another look (last time it's been updated is god knows when). Shame Satou couldn't continue on after Maeda's absence.

Been eating through these lol.

Goku had made his way to Penguin Village in pursuit of Blue. Shit was crazy. It was full of hilarious moments. Blue taking Suppaman's car, Blue's reaction to the poop, Turbo fixing... everything. My favorite part of was Senbei changing his entire face, a more serious handsome face I guess, and Goku freaking out.

EDIT: Watched 2 more episodes.

Taopaipai is epic. I love his theme to death. Kills Blue with one hit of his tongue. Tao used Lick, it was super effective. He says in japanese how easy that was... or whatever. I like the dub line much better, "I'd say... you've got that problem licked." Beautiful. He then pokes at two spots on a column and continues toward Karin's Tower. I love this guy.

This might be a little late, but I gotta ask.....what'd you think of the original version of the Murasaki vs. Power Pole scene?
How is it compared to the dub (which had me laughing my ass off the same day I had told people I can't laugh naturally)?

I'd say I enjoyed it about the same. I've never seen it uncut I suppose (if Toonami edited it back in the day). Goku saying he had a tail was priceless.

SO. I've been watching, but haven't been updating as much. I've reached the point where Goku has conquered the Red Ribbon Army and defeated Uranai Baba's fighters.

Can't remember the things I wanted to tell you as I was watching the Red Ribbon's downfall, but I enjoyed it. I guarantee you that.

Goku and company vs. Baba's fighters was hysterical. Yamcha defeated someone... happy for him. :P

Goku vs the Masked fighter was impressive, I don't remember it being that awesome. Seigasha did a really decent job making it look like a classic martial arts fight. And the over the top scenes were awesome as well.

More importantly, Goku seeing the man behind the mask, was nice to see. I knew exactly what would happen, but seeing Goku cry almost had me. Seeing it along with Nozawa's voice was much different experience. In english it's like "Well... Goku's crying" but this time it was like... "Damn man..." Goku's gut feeling, or that "good smell" he was smelling was right on the money. Happy for him.

Now... time to see how he handles the Pilaf Machine. Time to get Upa's dad back!

On episode 68 myself. I don't think I've ever watched Goku's siege in its entirety in either version. God that was awesome!

Though it's kinda negated because others had to help him win his battle.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

To be fair, See-Through had outside help, too. If Baba hadn't interfered, he would've been able to beat him without any help.

Technically he didn't since Baba was just being noisy. Not giving physical support or advice.
