Rage Theory: Gohan solely inherited the trait from Chi Chi

Rage Theory: Gohan solely inherited the trait from Chi Chi

Post by Angelus » Tue Dec 23, 2014 12:25 pm

Think about it... Chi Chi was a nagging and irate adult. Much more so than average. Sure, Bulma was a spoiled loud mouth but jeez.. Chi Chi was insanely angry.

Before BoG, where Vegeta has a "rage boost", only Gohan had a significant "rage boost" in the series. I mean sure, Krillin got pissed and wiped out all those Saibamen, Vegeta blasting SPC when Future Trunks got killed, and sure, rage/anger is what activates the SSJ transformation... but Gohan was the only one in the series that consistently had that "rage boost" that was significant.

Headbutt against Raditz, insane ki blasts against 2nd form Frieza, again against Cell, and when Piccolo threw Gohan towards a cliff back in the Saiyan Saga, and that filler scene when Goku noted that Gohan made a huge hole on a large tree's trunk, and when they were training in the ROSAT. Gohan consistently had a rage boost that Goku even acknowledged it and was so confident with that potential that he had Gohan fight Cell.

But now each time Gohan gets his rage boost, I just can't shake the afterimage of how similar it is to how insanely pissed off Chi Chi gets. It's like... this "rage" Gohan had was inherited from Chi Chi's insane anger genes. Yes, of course, Gohan inherited traits from Chi Chi. But it seems like this rage is the more inherent trait he got from Chi Chi. Something Goten didn't inherit.

Future Trunks, and present Trunks had a loud mouth mother but never at the same angered caliber as Chi Chi. They both never had a significant "rage boost" yet they're Human-Saiyan hybrids. The only time Future Trunks showed his mother's loud-mouthed tendencies was when he was screaming "IF THEY SET THAT ANDROID FREE IT WILL BE THE END OF ALL OF USSSSSSSSS!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!" when 17 and 18 were to activate 16... and "FATHER!!!! YOU HAVE TO STOP IT!!!!!" when Vegeta was charging up a Final Flash to shoot at Cell.

Should we be thankful that Goku ended up with angry Chi Chi instead of loud mouth Bulma or fangirl Suno/Snow?

This woman is crazy! WTF?

I'm not sure if you can inherit rage from a parent but I guess it could be possible.

I always assumed Gohan's anger came from built up psychological trauma. The first time he shows his true rage is after being kidnapped and held hostage by Raditz and hearing his dad screaming in pain. Those were extreme circumstances for a little kid just like when he was about to die after Piccolo threw him into a mountain. I personally ignore the filler scene with him blasting a hole in the tree since it is filler and I think it makes little sense for him to be have any rage pre-Raditz but that's just my opinion.

Also besides the obvious triggers like people/friends dying and being killed in front of him you also have him constantly being separated from Goku which would likely contribute to his repressed anger over time.

He didn't inherit it from her at all. Being bad tempered isn't genetic.

Evidently, his "rage" is the result of his docile nature which made him unable to control such power (he does get better though). Just look at Oob. He was apparently untrained and his powers are heavily linked to his emotions.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

I never thought of it that way, but damn is that a hilarious theory.

Well, Chi Chi is his mother.

Chichi wasn't known for acting that way earlier in the story. Her newfound attitude after she marries Goku merely epitomizes the overly-invested "super-mama"/soccer mom.

I think Gohan's emotional issues stem from the very fact that his dormant power is so high and hard to contain that it leaks out in that form of expression.

It could be in this case. For all we know the Happy/Angry Bipolar-like mood swings of Gohan could be some kind of mental illness inherited from Chi Chi's side of the family since we've never seen her mother. Nothing suggests Ox King, Goku, Bardock or Gine had the same violent mood swings as Gohan, Chi Chi and presumably her mother did.

It is for Alligators and other reptiles, their brains have an enlarged enlarged medulla oblongata. And there are some genetic diseases that also force the individual to be a vary angry person. Brain damage can also increase or decrease anger issues. I remember an episode of Numb3rs where the character was involved in a car accident. He suffered major head trauma which paralysed a portion of his body and causes him to get severely angry.

Some diseases like down's syndrome can cause the reverse, I believe, which is why a majority people with downs are friendliest people you could ever meet.

Goten and Trunks don't have this rage boost thing that Gohan does, and both of them are half Saiyan. I'm sure it's "hereditary"... :D

Or maybe Goten and Trunks are just so care-free that they don't draw out their potential with emotions?

Chi Chi's gene's giving the rage power is good enough for me. *Insert into head canon*

I don't like "rage boost" being a thing now. Gohan simply had an unexplained hidden power that happened to be activated whenever he snapped. Tis how I will always see it. :(

My problem with Rage Theory is that Goku is also shown to use it and also that the rage boost is necessary for reaching SSJ and SSJ2 (so all Saiyans have it).

The anime made her seem much more angry than what she was in the manga. As usual. The anime always picks one trait from a character and usually blows it out of proportion.
