Re: Favorite thing about GT?
There's a lot I didn't like about GT, but as for things I actually liked...
* Character designs for Pan, the 1-star dragon (...that is Syn/Omega, right? I can never remember which number/name/design matchups go with each other...), Giru, and some of the random aliens from the early episodes. Oh, and the evil cigar-smoking Shenlong.
* The general "overuse of Dragonballs = bad stuff happens" idea.
* The way they figured out how to beat Super 17.

Re: Favorite thing about GT?
GT rules. I do not mean any offence when I say this but I feel a lot of people just poop talk GT because it's popular to do that. I used to hate GT myself for that reason until I actually watched it myself.
Son becoming a kid again I thought was great and helped keep things fresh. I was sick of adult Goku ever since.. I dunno, somewhere in the Cell arc. Just wished he'd go away already. I can't imagine GT continuing even further into that direction.
Son Pan is one of my favourite characters in the entire series. It's nice to once again have a character who gets character development that isn't "I AM A PSYCHOTIC MASS-MURDERER AND NAO I'M NOT!" My only gripes with her were that I wish she'd dress like Chibi Goku did (like DBM U18 Pan) since she's supposed to be his successor. And I was disappointed that she never went SSj considering she's ludicrously powerful and should be able to. Ultimate Gohan being able to go SSj again throws out the argument that she can't because she inherited his Ultimate form too.
The designs for the GT-Senshi were great. I like GT Vegeta even more than Z Vegeta. Considering 5 years before GT he had settled down on Earth to such an extent that he started even dressing like an Earthling it makes perfect sense for GT Vegeta to be the way he is. Unlike Z Vegeta he was a humble guy who managed to be a badass without acting like a moron and screwing everything up for everybody. His futile last stand against Super Yi Xing Long in the second to last episode was one of his most badass moments ever.
GT Gohan was surprisingly badass. For some reason I prefer him fighting in a suit and tie than in a gi, like he did against Goten-Baby and General Rild. He just seemed bland when he went back to wearing a gi in the end.
Trunks and Goten getting their own characterisations instead of relying on each other like in Z was pretty cool.
I didn't like Piccolo dying at all at first but that grew on me as well. It's a fitting end for his character arc for him to become the Daimao of Hell and reign over it forever since he started off literally being the Devil. It's also a good way to prevent something as dumb as the Super 17 arc from repeating.
GT's ending was about a billion times better than the ending for the original series. It's part of the reason I consider GT to be canon. Dragon Ball feels really incomplete if it ends with the Boo arc IMO. Son Goku becoming an omnipotent God that protects the Dragon Balls was a perfect ending. As well as Pan, Gohan, Oob, etc presumably becoming the new protectors of the world and having to learn to do so without relying on the DBs and Son Goku to do things for them. I really like this ending analysis for explaining what happened with Son at the end of GT. Makes his defeat of YXL a lot less ridiculous and cooler.
The soundtrack was incredible. Pure ear candy. I would even argue it might be better than the soundtracks for the original series'.
Yi Xing Long was one of the best villains in the entire series. He was much more fitting to be the final boss than Pure Boo I feel. Not only was his existence owed to the overreliance on the DBs that had gone on for the entire series but he felt truly unstoppable. It was the first time since the Saiya-jin or Piccolo Daimao arc had it felt like the DB gang was truly screwed and all hope was lost. He outlasted fusion, easily tanked and beat Goku and Vegeta with their powers drawn beyond their limits, killed Goku, regenerated from Goku's best attack, stole Si Xing Long's body to survive his kamikaze technique, etc. Might've been better if he had survived the Genki Dama too and Pan/Oob somehow found a way to crush him but oh well.

Agreed. Toriyama considers GT canon these days at least IMO. He stated that he gave Vegeta a mustache at the EoZ despite GT Vegeta being the only one to have a mustache. Not to mention the fact that Toriyama's new movies bring many ideas from GT into the canon Dragon Ball world. Gohan having SSj on top of his Ultimate state, villains keeping their bodies in Hell and training, etc.SSJ2FutureGohan wrote:GT is canon buddy, lol.

I'm a big fan of GT Vegeta's design (not the flattop, the later one where his spikes are back).
GT also has a bunch of good character scenes (who doesn't love Grumpy Protective Dad Vegeta?).

Grumpy Protective Dad Vegeta would be great, if it wasn't undercut by the general creepiness of that scene.Rocketman wrote:I'm a big fan of GT Vegeta's design (not the flattop, the later one where his spikes are back).

GT have several good things like SSJ4 Kakarotto, villains like Yi Xing Long, Super Nº 17, Bebi Vegeta, the Boo/Oob merge, etc

Actually, the fact that everybody finally changes their clothes so it's not a sea of orange gis and blue spandex is my favorite part of GT.

I like the fact that there's a main character who is a girl and she actually fights (no shade meant to Bulma, who is all kinds of awesome, but you know, I wanted my ladies to kick butt when I was a kid)
I like the return to the gags (although some of them are ridiculous and the tone shifts go a little overboard at times)
I love the music
I like the concept of the dragon balls biting them in the ass as well, because they had become such a cliche thing in Z already.

I assume when people say the show had a good soundtrack they are referring to the original Japanese score, since the English score was headache inducing garbage

The music of DBGT is what I enjoyed the most.
My YouTube
Soppa Saiyjins from Dorgou Ballru Zetto is my favorite transformation everah, especially when Trounksoru did it in front of Seru and when Bejita did it when he faced Jingonigen-hachigo. But for real, I use the FUNi pronunciation. - Soppa Saia People

I agree, though I'd prefer if he kept his longer hair with the clothes. I think it's a logical continuation of what we saw of his "evolution in the manga" - progressively less Saiyan wear, normal clothes and a gi for fighting, then normal clothes completely.Rocketman wrote:I'm a big fan of GT Vegeta's design (not the flattop, the later one where his spikes are back)

Re: Favorite thing about GT?
"Blue Velvet" is one of the best songs Dragon Ball has ever seen. I'm also fond of the final few minutes or so, as Goku walks through the crowd untouchable and other-worldly. It's a little schmatzly and very un-Toriyama like; in fact, it may just be the epitome of *~~~~~~Goku~~~~~~*, but it was well done all the same. Episode 64 as a whole is pretty good.

Re: Favorite thing about GT?
Ya know what! For my first post on these forums I'm gonna start here! Great judgement yeah?
Overall I gotta say the majority of GT is my favorite thing. Yeah it's got flaws and stuff to it but I'd be lying if I didn't say I look forward to GT whenever I do my Dragon Ball Binge. It's like the nice dessert at the end of a fine meal. It just caps things off nicely for me. But if I had to list specifics?
-Bebi. Seriously I enjoy this guy as a villain and actually wished they used him more in child state. He was like the thing from another world in his early episodes. Creepy, weird and you never knew who he was in unless he wanted you to!
-SSJ4! This will always remain my favorite form. It just feels...right. Yeah it's actually not a super saiyan form. But it just feels like the ultimate combination of the Saiyan races finest traits into one body!
-The music. Both Japanese and English soundtracks. They both fit perfectly (With mild preference to the dub soundtrack.) They add tension to each dramatic scene or add joy to happy scenes.
-The minor villains. Ledgic, Rildo, the Para Para Brothers, heck even LUDD! Though my hat always goes off to Ledgic cause of that dub voice! (Seriously the guy could read a phonebook and I'd listen!)
-The Shadow Dragon arc! Good god while a little poorly executed. The concept is beautiful and I respect it. The Dragon balls, the things that started this whole adventure, brought all these people together, created so many bonds, and gave us so many adventures to enjoy...are now the final villains of the show! The best and only way to end it in my opinion.
Special Mentions!
-The Super 17 arc. While considered the weakest of the arcs in GT (I can see why but let me keep goin here!) The super 17 arc has grown more...tragic over the years. Especially with the recent stuff we've learned about 17's life after cell saga. When I think of that stuff, his wife and kids and then look at the super 17 arc. It feels so tragic to me!

Re: Favorite thing about GT?
The only thing I think of is Bebi. I thought he was a great villain, but didn't care for the design at all. When he revealed that he was the true master behind Dr. Myuu's screams, I was shocked! The concept of the Tuffles getting back through Bebi was excellent! The episodes where he took over the bodies of Goku's friends and family were my favorite. Come to think of it, I also loved how they showed how Vegeta developed in his fatherly role with Bra.
It's a shame so much of the arc was poorly written, because Bebi is one of the best Dragon Ball villains. I wish Toriyama would have incorporated the parasitic control with Boo, instead of the regeneration garbage. Oh how I hate Super Boo! He destroyed that arc. Oh this is supposed to be a happy topic.......yeah Bebi!
Oh and I also loved when Goku spared with Kuririn at the end, re-enforcing how modest Goku actually is.

Re: Favorite thing about GT?
I never really liked Dragon Ball GT too much. Even when I was a kid and thought that it was solely made by Akira Toriyama like the idiot I was I never really saw it as anything great. However, despite that, I'd be straight up lying if I said there was nothing at all that I loved about the series. While I never liked Super Android 17 or the Evil Shadow Dragons I really liked the concept of Baby and how he was a remnant of the Tuffle race and also acted as a parasite eventually gaining control over Vegeta. Unfortunately, I can't say I liked the look of Baby Vegeta after he grew shoulder blades, got built in sun glasses, and received a manly cleft but that's beside the point. I thought Baby was very unique and let other characters play some sort of role in the plot.
I also really enjoyed the music as well as I felt that it was often appropriate with what was going on. The openings and endings always matched the nature of the mood of what Dragon Ball GT was trying to do. The fourth ending of Dragon Ball GT for instance seemed to signify an end to the series and showed that beautifully through images of Goku as he grows older and the optimistic, yet a tad melancholic tone of the song itself. I can't say the same for Zenkai Power and Angel for Dragon Ball Z in that regard as Zenkai Power was too happy and fun for the times it was used and Angel was alright and something I enjoyed, but also felt oddly out of place. Cha La Head Cha La and We Gotta Powa was also great, but after a while I grew tired of them as they had long outlasted their welcome. The Dragon Ball GT opening while becoming a bit stale over time never managed to completely follow in the footsteps of its predecessor because the series was only 64 episodes.
Lastly, while I prefer the ending of Dragon Ball Z, I won't deny the gravity of the Dragon Ball GT's end as Goku travels on the back of Shenlong and says his goodbyes to everyone. I will say though that the 100 years later thing was really, really stupid to me and really irked me though when I first saw it and even to this day for some reason. But despite that, I feel that it was a beautiful definitive end to the Dragon ball even if its not in line with the Dragon Ball canon that I accept.

I truly hope that is not the reason people dislike dragon ball GT because of bandwagon purposes. That would be stupid as hell. In the grand scheme of things it was THAT BAD, but it still was bad. My favorite thing about it was just the simple fact that it continued the story weather they did it poorly it was still kinda fun to watch.CatouttaHell wrote:GT rules.
