DBZ Battle of Gods french dub up for streaming jan. 12 2015

I'm too tired to translate the whole thing right now (I might do if I catch some sleep), but in essence -- Viz Media Europe's behind this streaming on Canalplay, a streaming service that you can try out one month for free. It's slated for January the 12th 2015. Nothing is noted wether there'll be a HD stream, or simply an SD stream.

For whatever it's worth, here's a Google Translate of this release:

Following an agreement with the European distributor VIZ MEDIA EUROPE, CanalPlay became the first platform to exclusively broadcast the latest installment of the cult manga Akira Toriyama and generational directed by Masahiro Hosoda.

A unique distribution in France a few months after its release in the US.

"We are pleased to announce an agreement that will delight many of our subscribers, fans of Goku and Vegeta" said Patrick Holzman, Director CanalPlay. "This new film adaptation is highly expected by the whole community and we will be able to offer our own subscribers just five months after its US broadcast cinema, in French with the original liners and on all their screens! ".

The film will be available exclusively on CanalPlay from January 12.

Some people have seen it, but I haven't.
But for now, forum members are saying it's stellar, with even fans that don't even like the praised new Kai dub saying it is far above even the Kai dub and that they will buy the Blu-ray because of that (sometimes buying a French release for the first time due to how they were amazed by this movie's dub).

I have seen the short documentary about the movie's French version though (voice actors talk about the series, how they handle the voice, discovering their characters, with extracts from Kai here and there), right here (9:30 on the video):

Ah man, thanks for the translation! I think the video has been taken down, but let me know if it ever comes back up elsewhere.

Really looking forward to the inevitable clips of the actual movie that will find their way to YouTube, as well!

^ No, the video's still on the site, no problem. Just follow the link I posted to reach the Nyûsu Show page, then start the video.
The possibility of it being taken down is unlikely, since it comes from a channel's official site (J-One, the channel having the Kai one-day-after-Japan exclusivity).

Did you find out from those who watched what romanization was used for Beerus/Whis?

Well, whenever I play it, I get an error message that says, "Sorry, this video is not available."

Perhaps it's a regional lockout thing? Man, now I understand how FUNimation's Canadian fans feel.

For me, the video player itself doesn't appear anymore.
No Nyusu Show - not even the latest one from yesterday - appears anymore.

Could be a problem with their video player using some "MTVN Service" apparently from what I could see on the source code.

EDIT: The video is back on. Apparently, such problems are just temporary.

Beerus - "Birus" (which is the french spelling of Beerus :D) Plus, Goku calls him "Senieur Birus" :D

As for "Whis" it's simply "Whis".

I know in French dubs it's not uncommon for songs to be left as-is, without being dubbed. So with that in mind, did Eric Legrand get to sing a French version of "Bingo"?

Much better spelling imo. I always hated the "beer" in his name.

Note that it's not the same sound in english and french. It's not "Bairus" It's like the english "e".

Yes he did. Unfortuntely the mixing of the scene is horrible and it ruined his performance. (Some kind of echo I don't find fitting at all).

I can try and make a clip of it, I just need to figure out how (I've got an .mkv rip of it on my hard drive).

In case you use Google Chrome, you should install ''Hola Better Internet'' so that you can watch the video.
Eitherway, someone has already uploaded on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olG0xov7gSg

And what the hell? Is this for real? Did they actually keep the Japanese screams?

Thanks for the tip!

As for the screams, well....they did keep the Japanese screams for the DBZ dub, and a lot of French dubs don't dub screams. They did, however, dub the screams for Kai. So if they did revert to that old practice for BoG, that's a tad disappointing--not to mention unnecessary, as Legrand can do some great screams. I just watched his take on the "my Bulma" scene, and I thought he sounded great screaming the dialogue.

Ah nice, I'm happy whenever a dub goes against Bills. As far retaining the Japanese kiai, it isn't too bad for a character like Vegeta where Legrand sounds similar enough that it could pass. But wouldn't it be jarring with Goku? Patrick Borg's voice is even deeper than Schemmel's Goku. Seems like it wouldn't mesh well to switch to Nozawa in a/multiple fight scene/scenes.

This is unacceptable! I don't know how French people can accept this situation.

Well, they have, for a long time. Not just in anime, but in live action movies as well.

Part of it, apparently, is a budget thing. With English language dubs, voice actors are paid an hourly rate for however long they're in the studio. In France, they get paid for each line of dialogue they have, with each line of dialogue being worth X amount of euros (not sure how much). And apparently, in France, screams, grunts, and other "vocal sounds" are counted as dialogue lines. So, to save money, French dubs have been known to either mute the vocal audio or switch to the original audio whenever vocal sounds occur.

Nevertheless, I'm still surprised. Like I said, they did dub all the screams in Kai, so this marks a reversion to the old ways for them (if this video is accurate). Horikawa's screams are similar enough to Legrand's screams for it to not be that distracting in the case of Vegeta...

...But I sure hope they didn't leave in Nozawa's screams for Goku. Not that her screams are bad, but Nozawa's voice is very, very, very different from the voice of Patrick Borg (Goku's voice actor in France). To go so quickly, back and forth, in the same scenes, from his voice to Nozawa's screams was extremely odd in the DBZ dub, so here's hoping that didn't happen in the BoG dub.
