Wiki: Page Template Discussion - Locations

Post by Hujio » Thu Jan 15, 2015 1:44 am

This discussion will be one of our on-going threads that will be created by Kanzenshuu administrators in the "Staff Help Requests" area. The first post in this thread will be regularly updated by an administrator based on the community feedback and discussion. In short, we have plans to launch a wiki for the Dragon Ball franchise that is tied to our website. We are asking for your help in developing what will be the structure -- NOT THE ACTUAL CONTENT -- of various pages throughout the wiki. If you are interested in contributing to the wiki, right now this is the best way for you to do it. Remember, we are not asking you to write articles at this point in time; rather, we are asking for your thoughts on how the eventual articles for the eventual wiki will be eventually put into place. This will help us to develop a style guide for pages on the wiki, which will in turn make it easier for you to contribute articles down the road.

Please keep your responses even more neatly-written, clear, and concise than we already expect elsewhere on the forum.

Please answer and discuss the following questions (and/or respond with more questions we should think about) regarding pages on the future wiki for locations in the series:
  • What information about a location's name should be included (spellings, adaptations, pun source, etc.), if at all?
  • What information about the design/look of a location should be included, if at all?
  • What essential information should be included in the information box?
Note: The page, as it is displayed below, applies only to very specific locations, such as Kame House, Son Goku's House, etc. It does not apply to larger locations, such as Earth, which will contain additional information not pertinent to smaller, more specific locations. Larger locations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

| Location Name:
| English Name(s): English adopted names from Ocean, FUNimation, or Viz that differ from the Japanese name
| Manga Debut: Appropriate Dragon Ball chapter
| Anime Debut: Appropriate anime episode
| Appears in: If the location is only from a TV special or movie
| Locational Data
| Area: Area of the "Dragon World" (i.e. Universe, Afterlife, Kaiōshin Realm, and Subspace)
| Galaxy: Cardinal direction of the appropriate galaxy (North, South, East, & West)
| Planet: Planet the location is based, if applicable
| Location: Location on said planet, if applicable (via grid system established in Daizenshuu 4 -- A-1 to C-4)

General Overview
An overview of the location, such as inhabitants, owner, series significance, etc. Its length should be relative to the location's involvement in the series, but brevity and conciseness is still expected.

An explanation of the location's name pun or naming scheme, if applicable.

When appropriate, a description of the location's production, including who initially designed it, notes about its design or conception, etc.

Information that does not fit into any other category. Reserved for real-world information. In-universe information should be incorporated into the biography or other available categories.

At the bare minimum, we need to include the name (Room of Spirit and Time), the kana/kanji (精神と時の部屋), and the romanization (Seishin to Toki no Heya), which I would prefer to see in the opening paragraph. Funimation/Viz names can be relegated to the infobox. I feel that puns are essential due to how widespread they are, and how many are lost due to the language barrier.

I know that Capsule Corporation (and if I'm not mistaken, Kame House) have had detailed maps drawn up in the guidebooks, so any notable information included in those should be mentioned alongside a basic description of the structure/general area. Any differences from early design drafts (if any exist) should be noted as well. All of this could be done in the overview and/or notes section.

I'm satisfied with what you have. I can't think of anything more to add in this regard other than unnecessary fluff.
