While I agree with you, it's not just the story; his artwork was kinda all over the place.
Some examples being stoned Freeza, Gine's play-doh arms and young Goku being four feet tall.

I would have enjoyed seeing Toriyama's work again, but if I'm being completely honest,
I feel that Toyatarō is going to give us a better-looking product in the end.
Yet his artwork is still much more enjoyable than most of what Toyble does. Yes, it looks more like DB did back in the 90s, but the quality of his work when he has any significant number of pages in his chapters is extremely wonky. Even when Toriyama's art has flaws, it still somehow has charm and "looks" good and professional, despite being made of fairly simple lines. I much rather see Toriyama at work, even with his flaws, than I would Toyble. Almost all of his recent Victory Mission chapters just look extremely rushed.
Mewzard wrote:Though he did Jaco, Toriyama pretty much admitted doing it wrecked him. Three chapters would certainly be more feasible, but he'd probably need longer than they want to do that much work.
That would be why I said it wasn't going to happen. He did say Jaco was likely to be his last solo manga.

Wow, did I miss the part where Toyotarou was confirmed? Either way, this sounds very fun. I bet he really fought to be able to do this.

Ooishi Naho is also a Dragon Ball doujinshi artist. It's not unheard of for doujinshi artists to trade off between working on fan comics and their own widely published original material, but I do believe this is the first I have heard of a fan comic artist working on an official work for the same franchise. Keep in mind, he seems to only be allowed to work on official projects so long as everyone pretends he isn't Toyble. It's a wink-wink situation. This is also why "Tosh" hasn't drawn his original series or appeared online since he was hired to be the artist of Weekly JUMP's Shokugeki no Souma as Shun Saeki. They'll hire fan artists or smut artists, but only so long as everyone doesn't talk about the less than desirable aspects of their career.

Man, the closer this gets, the longer it feels like it's taking. Time is bending itself to make this take forever...

Masami Kurumada, the creator of Saint Seiya, got several people to work on official spin-offs for his franchise over the past 9 or so years (dunno if they were ALL old fans, but at least one was).

Not to mention Toyble has already been working on the (main) official Heroes manga. So it's not like him doing the ROF manga is a huge step up into the official franchise or anything.

If you're asking if a doujinshi artist has ever been hired to work on official material before, the answer is yes. Naho Ooishi was hired to do "Yo! Son Goku" and SD, and Toyble has been working on Heroes

The whole song is just one big headache to me. Like others have said, the "Freeza! Freeza! Freeza!" chorus is the most bearable part, but it's not enough. I'm still flabbergasted that this thing is now an official Dragon Ball insert song.

And I'm even more flabbergasted that so many people have abruptly switched to thinking that metal fits the series (especially after all we went through with FUNimation).

Well, he's been doing the Dragon Ball Heroes manga for a while now, unless that's what you were referring to.

Keep in mind that Toyotarō's never been confirmed to actually be Toyble, by the way. Everyone's just pretty much already made the connection.

It depends on the song and how it's used. At first I didn't think this song would fit in with Dragon Ball, but a video someone posted from BoG with the song playing in the background changed my mind, it actually worked.

I wonder how much of the story these three chapters will actually be covering, since it's starting before the movie comes out...I can't imagine them spoiling too awful much, but crazier things have happened I guess.

And say what you will about how Toriyama's art has changed, I'd still prefer it was him doing this. There's still nothing like the original author's touch.

Oh c'mon! They have brand spanking new outfits not only for Kuririn, but for Goku and Vegeta too, and they make new figures of them all in their same outfits we've had for ages now?!

It's like they're taunting me...

While it's true that there's not been an officially official announcement, Toyble did put out a special DBAF quasi-chapter where he said that he can't work on AF much these days due to being busy with...something...involving cards...and then there's a silhouette of the main character from the Heroes manga. So either Toyble is Toyotaro, or Toyble is actively pretending to be Toyotaro.

Re: figures

I bet they're holding off till after the movie's out to bring out the tie in figures.

They come out with a ssjg Gokû in that new dougi from F and I will throw money at them. *_*

Also, still desperately hoping there's more about F in VJump than just the part about Toyotarô. @_@

Well, it does fit on the merit of being the inspiration for the writer of the movie.

Kinda like how a lot of people wanted the ending theme of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders to be Dio's Holy Diver (given the villain's Dio Brando, and named after said person).

Of course, choosing Walk Like An Egyptian was amazingly appropriate, so few complained.

The song can work in the right scenes. Some parts can be used for a good action scene, there's at least one good part for a transformation, and there's parts ready for a Freeza massacre.

Some parts work a little less good, but hey, I doubt we'll hear the whole song in one cut (and if we do, I imagine a few of the older references might be changed).

It will probably reveal a little more than Dragon Ball SD's Battle of Gods chapter did. We'll learn a lot from it.

Realizing all the Heroes VJump stuff still hasn't leaked gives me hope there's more F stuff in there that hasn't leaked yet too.

After noticing ANN continued to choose their odd choice of title, I tried to correct them, but they seemed to think I was the one who kept complaining, when I only posted it once...

"I get your complaint, but this is literally one of the ways to translate it. It's not mistranslated. This title isn't really supposed to sound good in English, as Fukkatsu is a Japanese word. Once an official English title is released, it can be changed.

Please stop listing this complaint again and again. We do hear you. This is just the best choice for the title at the current moment."

I don't agree with the title choice, but hey, their choice I suppose (other people care more than I, I suppose).

I wonder how long this movie will be. Shorter than BoG? As long? Longer? I'm hoping for longer. I do enjoy a good-sized viewing (despite Toei's attempts in the past to do short movies).
