Canada has a lot of very large cast of underrated VA work. I'd like to anticipate something from there that would blow me away. Inuyasha was really well done.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Boom. He also said he'd call his agent this morning to find some further info; biggest "lead" we've had since Scott. Also maybe give 'em a follow if you're on the twatter.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

It's a shame that they won't be able to get David Kaye back. Seeing as he's a full time union VA in LA now. It's probably why he didn't return as Sesshomaru in Inuyasha The Final Act. I reckon he could pull off Perfect Cell. It would sound a lot better than Dale Wilson's Cell in my opinion.

David Kaye is a former Ocean Group VA. Throughout most of his career he was doing LA dubs and dubs for Ocean. He has since resigned from Ocean Productions as of 2012.songohan619 wrote:Was David Kaye ever in DBZ?TheWhiz wrote:It's a shame that they won't be able to get David Kaye back. Personally, I do Not like the song or really the dialogue for that matter, but they got Drummond as Vegeta so take it as you will for a sample of his voice post-Westwood. He speaks at the end and the beginning.

It's still just so hard for me to imagine that voice as Vegeta for the Buu saga. I actually like Drummond's Vegeta, but prefer Sabat's.

I think he does an okay job, even when the time and budgetary restraints on the production are glaringly obvious.

I thought he did fine in the Buu saga especially when he became Majin Vegeta. You occasionally got glimpses of his old evil/psycho Vegeta from the saiyan saga, maniacal laughter and all.

After seeing someone make the comparison (don't remember whom, nor what thread) I can't help but hear Ren Höek whenever I hear Drummond's Vegeta now.
While a silly cameo in a music video is probably far from representative of how he'll sound in the actual dub, he sounds a bit...rusty, is how I'd describe it I guess? Perhaps that's to be expected after roughly a decade away from the character, or maybe his voice in general has just changed in the past 10 years.

Yeah I watched a few episodes, it was like a poor man's version of DBZ, even though they used a "professional" voice cast I guess. I am not bashing the westwood dub, I'm just saying that Vegeta voice to me fits best on the episodes I saw, it's hard for me to imagine that raspy evil voice going Super, or being a family man. I'm pretty sure I saw the one where Bulma and Vegeta meet Goku training with Goten, and he still, even though being calm, to me, sounded like he was going to murder somebody with that voice.Blade wrote:I take it you haven't seen any of the Westwood dub Buu arc, then?ultimateemail5000 wrote:It's still just so hard for me to imagine that voice as Vegeta for the Buu saga. Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I honestly feel that you are discrediting the actors' ability to act. They have played countless roles since 2003 and have grown as actors despite being seasoned actors since the mid-1990's. Hell, I heard Drummond and Kirby Morrow on a radio ad the other day using their real voices (but I can so tell it's them, with Morrow playing an upbeat character and Drummond doing the tagline at the end). Seriously, they don't have to play up the rasp or the sinister villain voice if they don't want to or change it when they feel that the character has changed. Sabat has gone through different incarnations of his voice so it is hard to say that Sabat's voice is best for Vegeta when it has been different in every incarnation of DBZ that has come out in NA whereas Drummond has been more consistent. It's really a strawman argument and very weak to say that "well Sabat's voice is better for Vegeta" when it hasn't even been consistent in each arc.ultimateemail5000 wrote:Yeah I watched a few episodes, it was like a poor man's version of DBZ, even though they used a "professional" voice cast I guess. Hell, he delivers Vegeta differently in Kai. Who says the Ocean actors can't do that too? Ridiculous and blinded by nostalgia.

This argument has been had many times before but it really doesn't hold much weight. Vegeta started out as a villain in the series and didn't really change his ways until near the end of the Buu arc. They have every reason to make him sound villainous. The character has always been shown to have a short fuse and even at the EoZ tournament with Uub he doesn't hesitate to injure a human who insults him, you really think this type of person needs a warm fuzzy heroic voice? C'mon dude... I think the problem here is just nostalgia and being unable to accept a different voice over Sabat's.ultimateemail5000 wrote:I'm just saying that Vegeta voice to me fits best on the episodes I saw, it's hard for me to imagine that raspy evil voice going Super, or being a family man. As for not being able to "imagine" the voice, well you don't have to, it exists.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
But the FUNi dub for those episodes is a poor man's version as well. I'm sure this is just nostalgia talking, if you grew up with the Westwood dub for the later Z episodes as opposed to FUNi's dub for them then i'm sure you'd look upon that dub in a favorable light. A lot of people who didn't grow up with the original 1999-2003 FUNi dub don't seem to like it much (especially people from non-English speaking countries), well that's what I've seen at least. I grew up with it and looking back i think it was pretty awful, when you take off the nostalgia vision you see it turned DBZ into some stupid cartoon where semi-pro actors scream for 15 minutes and engage in moronic dialogue with techno & metal music in the background. The Westwood dub feels a bit closer to the original Japanese version, although in a saturday morning cartoon sort of way. I only saw a bit of the original 1996-1998 Ocean dub and none of the Westwood dub growing up (i live in Australia) but i still much prefer them over Funi's in-house dubs.ultimateemail5000 wrote:Yeah I watched a few episodes, it was like a poor man's version of DBZ, even though they used a "professional" voice cast I guess. Every time this thread is bumped my heart quivers with anticipation.
Is this concrete news or just another fabrication?
More bickering about dubs of yore?
Or will we finally find out more?
I click on the link with despair to see,
that it's nothing new to little old me.
