You're a brave man for trying to trug through the first 16 episodes of DBGT. Hope your mind can take it.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

It doesn't really feel any more out of place than any other previous plot point, to be fair. It's a context to get the plot going, it doesn't really have to be some clear callback or tighter continuity fit.

4 things you should keep in mind before watching Gt which will help ease the pain of watching it :

1- It gets better after ep.16 which isn't saying much.
2- It's a Goku only show unlike Z which always had a different character in the spotlight.
3- It's not unpredictable like Z.
4- The fights never get as epic as they were in Z.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Also, when your watching the first few episodes of GT, remember, Pan is meant to be annoying and grating it's no unintentional like Toei want to act like it is. And beware the Para Para Brothers, make sure there are no heavy object close to vicinity when watching that as you may feel obliged to throw said objects at your TV, but after the Black Star Dragon Ball saga the show is... somewhat tolerable.

In many way, yes. Hell, the entire Saiyan arc is nothing but plot twists and revelations:
- Goku has a son.
- Goku has an evil brother.
- Goku and Piccolo are aliens.
- Goku dies.
- Yamcha, Chaozu & Tenshinhan all die.
- Piccolo dies saving Gohan from Nappa's attack, and because of this Kami dies, and as a result of this... the Dragon Balls vanish.
- And Vegeta escapes.
- The only person really left standing is Krillin
- A second pair of Dragon Balls exist.

Would you have predicted any of that happening?

Add to that after all the training Goku does he still loses the final battle.

And don't forget all the twists that happen after Namek.

Frieza survived Namek and goes to earth.
He's killed by a mysterious boy who is shown to be a super saiyan.
It turns out he's Vegeta and Bulma's son from the future.
His future is a living nightmare that starts with Goku dying and wants to stop it from happening again.
Instead of things getting better a new monster appears in the form of a bug who is made of the cell's of the universe's strongest fighters.
Vegeta finds a new ssj form.
Gohan finds an even stronger form.
Goku losing to Cell and eventually dying at the end leaving Gohan to finish what he started.

I can see why a lot of fans say it's predictable cause we know it like our name but show it to someone who knows nothing about it and their jaw will be on the ground from beginning to end.

The first five was VERY predictable. I mean, shit. I'm shocked it wasn't done earlier. The six one was built up. Going by the anime it wasn't AS shocking. Krillin living was obvious. Vegeta living and Namek balls was really shocking.

So no. Z wasn't really shocking at all

-Goku having a son was kind of predicted once he got married, but that in itself came out of nowhere, however.
-Goku having an evil brother is really only predictable in hindsight, it was totally unexpected. Even more unexpected was how small of a role he ended up playing
-Goku being an alien was hinted as early as the scan from Major Metallitron. I doubt it was really planned this early on though, as it was most likely an assumption made by the scan. Major twist, the green guy's an alien. Didn't see that coming.
-Goku dying I DO consider a twist. Nobody would've expected the LEAD CHARACTER to get killed off. This was before the mass killings were a thing. Or rather, this is where they started.
-The other Z-Warriors were probably 50/50.
-Dragon Balls vanishing, yes.
-Vegeta escaping, yes.
-How would it be obvious that Krillin would be left? The King Piccolo arc had him as the very first victim. It could just as easily have been Yamcha or Tien left standing.
-More Dragon Balls, yes.

The first aren't predictable, hell they're among the most shocking development in all of Dragon Ball:

- Goku having a son was bound to happen but it was still a surprise at the time given how quickly it happened.
- Goku having an evil brother was a huge twist.
- Goku and Piccolo being aliens was a huge shocker. I mean the Dragon Ball world had already been established as this wacky world where any being that you thought didn't exist on Earth, really does exist. It was more shocking with Goku considering just what kind of alien he came from. Granted it was jokingly foreshadowed by Oolong but that didn't stop it from being a jaw dropping revelation.
- Goku dying legitimately for the first time was unprecedented at the time. For a shonen manga to kill the main hero halfway into an arc, something like that had never been done before.
- Yamcha, Chaozu & Tenshinhan all dying were out of the blue. The most shocking probably being Chaozu considering he already died and couldn't be brought back to life.

Only shocking part of DB was Trunks vs Freeza. Until Vegeta said said "All Saiyans have black hair.". It became Crystal clear who his parents are.

1. I don't understand how it was shocking. He JUST got married. It wasn't exactly rocket science. Almost every manga-anime marriage has a child. It really shouldn't be a shocker. I was about 4-5 and I knew this. This was a shocking as Minato being Naruto dad.

2. It's cliche but growing up on comics, anime, manga, and BOOTLEG korean stuff. Almost every hero had a dark side brother. It even happened in Code Name Kids Next Door Door.

3. Piccolo vs Kami. They spoke a different language. Quite clear their aliens. I ALWAYS thought Son-kun was an Alien. Goku was consider wacky even by Earth standards. How is it Jaw dropping when everyone said he's weird.

4. I'll say it was shocking if you start with Z. But with so many challenges Goku fought. He would have died by someone. With stuff like DB's anyways. I was shocked when he died against Cell. With DB's it's not like Goku wouldn't come back. It was a way for Goku receive special training.

5. I predicted (Bro used to love betting wan on action shows) Ten(because I hate him), Chazou, and Yamcha (So Bulma can can say I love you). Kami straight up told us Piccolo was going to die.

Kuririn had already been killed off in the Piccolo storyline, so only Tenshinhan and Yamcha could have afforded to die in the Saiyan arc. Piccolo's death was foreshadowed, and it was already established at that point Toriyama didn't give a shit about Chaozu.

Goku having a son, yeah, I'd say that was coming after Goku and Chichi got married. And even Goku dying wasn't that shocking since it was shown that death can be reversed through the Dragon Balls. However, Goku being an alien -- I'd say that genuinely came out of left field. Piccolo being an alien was foreshadowed at the 23rd Martial Arts Tournament with his interactions with Kami. And to a lesser extent the way he looks. But Goku ... I don't really see that. Maybe because he has a tail. But otherwise he looks completely human.

Chins are larger, heads are bigger
Oh god... and this art style was popular amongst the fandom until 2009 ish... the big chins lasted that long, I swear. I hated it.

Okay, about the predictability thing... if there was a platform like this in the '80s, I am sure no one would have predicted anything coming out of the Saiyan arc. None of it. When I watched it for the first time, though starting with Z, it was really unpredictable and DBZ was a master of suspense and their iconic "stay tuned" catch phrase.

Vegeta surviving, literally the whole Z-Senshi being obliterated, Goku losing all his fights in the Saiyan arc are all shocking. I really thought Oozaru Vegeta was going to end Goku.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Anyway, I hope you have fun with GT. I love the visual direction and OST of it, brings me so much nostalgia.

Okay, so I just got to the part where the heroes destroyed Lood... the "God of Destruction". Well that's new to me. Also back on Imeka, Goku couldn't use the Instant Transmission... why?

So far all I've had were either laugh moments or wtf moments. Why are Goku and Trunks having any trouble with these people they fight? Aside from Redgic, that fight seemed legit.

And fuck the para para brothers... so goddamn lame.

What I'm really enjoying most about GT is that they pretty much dropped Studio Live as a studio (I did see some ebisawa in there for a bit). The show looks consistent for the most part. The music is growing on me as well, it's refreshing. Kikuchi get's tired.

The designs are done by Toriyama.
Goku couldn't use the Instant Transmission... why?
Because he is a child, he can't concentrate for the Instant Transmission.
They did that, so they can pull off the Grand Tour shisa.

Thinking about it now, why didn't they ask Kibitoshin to find the DragonBalls with his Instant transmision :wtf:
Why are Goku and Trunks having any trouble with these people they fight?
That's GT. SSJ4 vs PIG, but the kids love it.
I remember Trunks having trouble lifting a rock In GT turning SSJ to lift it.
InZ he would easily lift it in his base form.
