Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I do still await your opinions on the quality of said person's work however...
Well the phrasing kind of seemed like you're saying they're pathetic for doing this.
Well I'd need to get a read...which I'm not sure I'd be interested in since if it's bad, then there's not much to discuss since bad fanfics are the norm.
Speaking of my own experience I recall someone called Vegetwo who may have been Vegeta's lost brother. Apparently he said he has beaten Gogeta when he was a kid...something like that. It's been years since I recall as I never looked back at it.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
Actually, Kazamino, could you actually explain what you find about this person's fics? I really dont want to be reading huge chunks of text to get what's wrong with a fanfic. Please elaborate without links please.
In elementary school, I wrote a short story about Goku dressing up as Freeza for Halloween, Vegeta seeing him and freaking out (because he thinks it's Freeza), the two of them fighting, Goku throwing a jelly bean to Vegeta thinking it's senzu, and then Vegeta passing out from eating the candy.
An interviewer asks, "The soundtrack in Sonic 3 has become legendary. Is it true that you worked with Michael Jackson on it?" Takashi Iizuka kills all of our hopes and dreams by replying, "You know, those are just rumors, and SEGA does not want to say anything about them. So they will forever be just rumors..." WHY!?

I don't really consider this ridiculous. I found it funny.
Anyway, the most ridiculous fic I have come across was when Gohan and Chi-Chi's house burned down one day and they were forced to move to the Kame house. I don't want to go into details on how disgusting it is, so you guys will have to read it yourselves.
MediaFanGirl93 wrote:I always found the whole Trunks/Pan thing creepy because it supports pedophilia. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. It's deadass wrong and I wish said fics were banned.
How old is Trunks? Barely out of his teens? I've never heard of a teenager/young early 20s man being labeled a "pedophile". Plus Pan looks and acts a lot older than 10 (in GT at least) and has a real tomboy personality, in contrast to Trunks' girly mama's boy personality, so Trunks x Pan doesn't seem all that creepy to me at least.

And if you "ware" 16 and the girl was 18 then the girl wouldn't be a pedophile, but rather a 'cougar' by the western media's standards. Double standard much?

And if the guy had been dating the girl and had a sexual relationship with her before he turned 18? Why don't you actually take a huge step back and actually consider the possibilities of what could be going on, before painting everyone with the same broad strokes.
Cure Dragon 255 wrote:That's why I didnt say 18. 16 is the most reasonable barrier.
According to you?

I'm not sure, but I think that the age for mutual consent varies between countries, so the situation may not be considered pedophilia everywhere.
God forbid anyone except that their culture and mindset isn't the only one.
Well, you are mixing terms. What you are talking about is age of consent- the border under which every intercourse is considered illegal. It varies from 13 to 18.
Paedophilia is a disorder defined as sexual attraction to prepubertal children (usually defined by "under 13" and "at least 5 years younger") in person at least 16 years old- that's good o'l ICD-10, because DSM as usual overcomplicated matters.
But regarding situation here... I would have problem if the fic is superficially set during GT (to be fair it's easy to forget that Pan is 10, judging from her behaviour and clothes I would add her 4-5 years). Most of the stories state that it takes place when they are older.
Per aspera ad astra, man!
Women belong in the kitchen.
Men belong in the kitchen.
Everyone belongs in the kitchen, the kitchen has food
I remember reading that Japan's age of consent was/is lower than the average age around the world. Google says it's 13 apparently so Japan doesn't seem to take great offense of things like this compared to countries of the west.

You're right. Cure Dragon 255 and I referred to different things: he did refer to the disorder (as in "you're a paedophile or not"), while I thought about the situations in which a paedophile could be prosecuted.
I agree with Kamiccolo9 too: I know a case identical to the situation he has explained, and some people even threatened to call the police.
Spoiler:
Do you happen to be a doctor or work in something related to health? I don't see references to ICD and DSM in Dragon Ball forums very often
Actually, Ultimate Hammer Bro is right. There are places where its lower. I think its okay as long as it complies to any given region's statutes. HOWEVER, break THOSE rules and I will have no problem calling the hypothetical person a pedophile, REGARDLESS of gender.
Also, no. Ultimate Hammer Bro. I did mean that it was okay to send said pedophile to jail. I know there's communities where the age of consent is lower and I now admit that its okay AS LONG as you follow the given laws of any given region you are fine in my book.
Also, Kamiccollo, can you please elaborate on your hypothetical "The guy/girl turned 18 but they were seeing the minor before said birthday took place"? The implications you are giving off disturb me and I dont want to say anything without all the evidence.
Found these a couple years back while Googling "vegeta bowling", and I posted them here. The Aerosmith Concert is the one with the Z-Fighters acting like pre-teen girls in the early 2000s.

As in, a 15 and a 17 year old are dating, and are engaged in a sexual relationship, then the 17 year old turns 18. Which is extremely common, given how High School is setup, at least in the U.S.
If they were having sex BEFORE the whole turning 18 shebang? No prob! It would be puritanical to deny and forbid minors from having sex. However if S/He turns 18 they only need to wait for the other part to turn 16,its easy peasy. If the minor partner is younger than that... They should separate. Sorry.
I know I'm being a moral guardian and the Statutory Rape Laws have screwed up the lives of many upstanding people, like a 20 year old guy who thought his partner was 18 years old (She was 13). His life was ruined after that and he wouldnt have done it had he known. However, if you DO break the very explicit and clear laws that forbid adults from having sex with minors then you have no one to blame but yourself and you must go to jail.
Oh and I DO apologize for trying to limit your FREE SPEECH. There! Now we are even.
