LMAO "no violence makes things less urgent". Yeah, ok. Beerus is going to destroy Earth and kill everyone on the planet if he isn't stopped. But because he isn't ripping anyone's arms off or making people blow up, it's no longer violent and the creators have "lost their balls"? ...k den.

I'm not saying it wasn't meant to be a kid's series, it always was, and it always will be a kid series. But just because it is a kid series doesn't mean that everything about it is appropriate for kids, whatever the standards of its country are.Gyt Kaliba wrote:That's a matter of changing times. What Japan found acceptable back in the 90's isn't necessarily what it finds acceptable today, but that doesn't change the fact that when DB was running, it was still always meant to be a kid's series.
Now whether these newer standards are good or bad, is an entirely different discussion.

But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

This is true, but at that point it devolves into what any individual group or person would find acceptable for kids, and there's never going to be able to be a standard on that.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:I'm not saying it wasn't meant to be a kid's series, it always was, and it always will be a kid series. Also, Bullza, I get what you're saying. We probably won't see that much "bloodshed" again. But, that's not really a bad thing. If anything, that much "seriousness" was out-of-place from the get-go. What we're getting now is more in line with Dragon Ball from the beginning.
This is all IMO, of course.

Which would bring us to the point that saying that everything in DB is kid friendly & not everything in DB is kid friendly are both opinion based & not facts.Gyt Kaliba wrote:This is true, but at that point it devolves into what any individual group or person would find acceptable for kids, and there's never going to be able to be a standard on that.
And personally, I don't believe that DB is just for kids. It is a series created mainly for kids, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the fan-base is largely consisted by teens/young adults. Not saying that because I can't admit I'm watching/reading a kid's series, I'm saying that because I feel that there are many things within the series that aren't appropriate for kids, which also make the show more attractive to older ages. Not to sound like an old-fashioned guy, I'd definitely let my kids watch anything Dragon Ball whatever age they are, because even if the show has inappropriate elements, I don't think that they make the whole series inappropriate for kids.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Dragon Ball was made for and marketed towards kids (Or rather, the age 8-15-ish boy group). That's who it was intended for so, regardless of your own personal standards, it will always be a "kids show". A show made for kids. Just because a larger group of people can enjoy it doesn't change that. Despite the Bronies, MLP is still a "girls show". A lot of kids play games like CoD and Gears of War. That doesn't make them "Kids Games".
I don't see the need people have to so fervently defend their love of a childrens show by trying to promote it as more "Mature" or whatever. As if it's some kind of bad thing to like it. Things can have universal appeal despite the targeted demographic. There's nothing wrong with being an adult and liking a show for kids.

Can't we just treat it as PG-13, then? Just imagine Dragon Ball to be equivalent to Star Wars: Episode III.

Maybe if they got rid of the Pee-laf gang and those stupid so-called "Hell Angels", maybe this would be rated PG-13.

BoG was unrated, so I think this one will end up being the same....unless the tone's different, that is.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Which is a mistake because this is not early Dragon Ball. GT already made this huge mistake of trying to go back to being like Dragon Ball rather than Dragon Ball Z and it sucked because of it.If anything, that much "seriousness" was out-of-place from the get-go. What we're getting now is more in line with Dragon Ball from the beginning.
The series was always far better when it was more serious as opposed to more goofy. It's not that out of place either as the violence in the series goes way back, you have scenes with Piccolo thrusting his arm right through a guys chest and Tao throwing a spear through Bora's chest.
The thing that's most out of place is there being no violence at all.

...Where in the world do you get no violence at all, though? There's nobody getting hands shoved through them or anything, but there's still fists flying, energy beams being fired, people getting hurt. That...that still counts as violence.
...My head hurts trying to comprehend this.

I was talking about in the newer stuff, which is what was being complained about though. Lack of over-the-top violence does not equal lack of violence all together.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
I guess the whole argument is that the violence is one of Dragon Ball's roots, which sometimes can be gruelsome and dark, which in part are not suitable for children, as noted by examples in the previous page, such as 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, No. 20's impaling of Yamucha, Piccolo's killing of Goku and Raditz, Spopovich's beating on Videl, his head exploding from Babidi, etcs. You get the idea. You gotta see it from universal's viewpoint, not the darn Japanese. The lack of Battle of Gods's over-the-top violence hurts the movie a little bitsy bit, but it doesn't make the movie any less enjoyable. Now get back to the topic before VegettoEX comes here with a friendly warning.

I'm talking about violent violence which Dragon Ball had a ton of all throughout. What you're talking about is just standard violence seen in every Shonen manga and comic series.Gyt Kaliba wrote:...Where in the world do you get no violence at all, though? As always, that image of "Tights" (Bianca) has already spread the world. A guy from another community I participate posted it and I had to explain where did that image come from. Besides, a "famous" (national only) Brazilian Facebook page "Casa do Kame" also posted it, but soon removed it. Lol. Whenever you guys post an image, you should put a big warn "this image is fake", or else, we get so far.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
As for violence in Dragon Ball, the series to me will always be a mix between PG and PG-13. This movie does not need to become Mortal Kombat and having more blood & gore does not make it anything better. Besides I think fans still over react to the violence in the series, some fans think DBZ is some R rated franchise for decades.

At least there's a chance we'll get a trailer this month. BOG had its second one come out at the end of February.
