Sparking! 3 and Super DBZ 2

Post by Li'l Lemmy » Fri Oct 20, 2006 8:13 pm

I was doing a little extra research into Super DBZ, and came across this article/interview with Daisuke Uchiyama, the Chief Producer at Namco Bandai. While obviously the game was launched some 3 months ago and this corresponding article is as a result ridiculously out-of-date, I did notice an interesting tidbit concerning the future of DBZ.

Specifically, the following caught my interest:
The article wrote:Speaking of future DBZ titles, when we asked Uchiyama about what was coming after Super DBZ and Tenkaichi 2, he basically confirmed that both games would be seeing sequels on next generation hardware. While nothing has been officially confirmed by Atari or Namco Bandai, what I got from Uchiyama's comments was that the development team has been looking at the new hardware and there's a very good chance the next set of DBZ titles will hit next gen consoles and feature online play.
Is anything here official? Hell no; it's all taken with a grain of salt, of course. But it isn't hard to fathom that we would have continuing sequels to one or both game lineages, given their popularity, and regardless of what actually turns out it's still interesting to think about.

Regarding online play, I'm not sure that has ever been hinted at before; otherwise, I wouldn't have given the mention of it a second thought. (Pikuhan is a playable character X100!!) Will this become a reality with the next-gen systems? Should it?

Finally, even though they do mention the next-gen systems, I think we'll still see PS2 versions for at least the next two incarnations. PS3 is going to be an expensive system that not everyone will have right away, so I think they'll still want to tap the current market.

All in all, some interesting thoughts and ideas. So what about it, guys? Sparking! 3 and Super DBZ 2. One or the other? Online or no? Next generation or current? What's your take on it all? Let the speculation begin!

As long as they don't come to the Ps2, I'm happy and staying away from them, only because I have absolutely no intention of buying a Ps3. My Ps2 collection, hoping to God, finishes with Sparking NEO/Budokai Tenkaichi 2. Any more IS overkill.

I highly doubt it will be for current generation consoles, considering they're already releasing Sparking! Neo for Wii.

One shouldn't really be suprised at all at mentioning a sequel, considering the lack of ideas for original games nowadays and even the Budokai games got up to 3.

I'm not quite sure what else they could possibly stuff into Sparking! SUPER NEO!... When you're pulling out Yajirobe, you're already scraping the bottom of the barrel. They'll have to add in every single person who has ever lifted a finger...

Oolong with super transformation moves? That farmer that Raditz blasted when he got to Earth...? :? And hey! Maybe Goku Jr. from that GT special!

Alls I know is I'm not getting a PS3 ever, so even if they do release more DragonBall games on next-gen systems, I won't be playing them (Unless my hardcore gamer friends get them)...

As for next-gen DBZ games, if they make DB games for the Wii, I'll probably pick them up, since I do plan on getting a Wii. Hell, I'm going to try to buy both versions of Sparking! NEO for the PS2 and Wii!

It would be cool to see Super DBZ 2 with lots more characters and larger enviroments, I suppose.

I really don't think they could improve on the fighting games too much more. I'm still waiting for my fully 3-D DragonBall adventure/platformer game (in the vein of the Zelda series or God of War)... I'm growing weary of DBZ fighters, I want a DB adventure game that is huge and epic and spans the whole DragonWorld for you to explore!!!
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I'm sure that they won't stop making DragonBall games every year, at least they won't stop anytime soon. Wow, I'm so surprised that this forum is so pro-wii :o ..!

I think it's a safe bet to say that whatever the next game that comes out is... it most likely be a PS3 game, if not exclusive to the PS3. It's just the way it works over there. They're already doing anime-based games for the Wii and PS3, so DBZ heading there is quite logical.

That said, I'm looking forward to the PS3 actually being region-free :D.

OMFG I ROFLED AT THAT CLIP.

As for the DBZ games on PS3, hopefully some are going to come out on the Wii, considering I'm probably not going to get a PS3 anytime soon. Maybe on a price drop on Boxing Day, for the $499 one.

Come on, we got Sparking! NEO on the Wii, shouldn't we have some more DBZ games? :?

'Course it makes sense. In my opinion I believe that we can get the best out of Dragonball games with the PS3. Not a console thats running on budget.

My thoughts exactly; I don't want an overclocked GameCube representing the next generation of DragonBall games, no matter how much cheaper they are to produce. I want HD, wide screen, surround sound, and a bazillion polygons per micro-second. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Sparking Neo will be the last DragonBall game for the PS2.

Of course I hope to see sequels. However, I don't want to see DBZ games coming out on one console only. I hope to see exclusives on both Wii and PS3.

My God, Conan, you actually sound afraid of another PS2 game.

I'm not sure I understand, though. I get your concerns about overkill, but . . . if you're not going to pick up a PS3, while at the same time are hoping we've seen the last PS2 incarnation, are you saying that you never want to play another Dragonball game ever again?

Such an . . . odd thing to hope for. But perhaps I misunderstand you.

Who says that every game has to be about pulling a hundred million characters out of your ass? Developers can't necessarily give us anything new with regards to who we play with, but they can always explore and fine-tune the ways we play with them. Super DBZ proved that.

I am very seriously glad we're seeing a Wii release, but something in the back of my mind tells me it could be the only one. I think, more than anything, it's promotional. There's no graphical improvement over the PS2 version whatsoever and no additional content; it's the same game with Wiimote controls. They're simply using the draw of the DBZ name to get more people involved in trying out the controller.

Once that little experiment is over and everyone is more-or-less aware of what the Wiimote can do, I question the presence of DBZ on the Wii. Somehow I can't see the PS3 and Wii sharing in very many "across the board" releases like the consoles of today; they're just too different.
Mr.Piccolo wrote:I'm sure that they won't stop making DragonBall games every year, at least they won't stop anytime soon.
Unless Atari goes belly-up. DBZ is their biggest seller, but it's probably not enough to spare the company if things get worse for them financially. Let's hope they have a better fiscal year than last.

I agree that it will be a PS3 game. I don't agree that we won't see a PS2 version of at least the first PS3 title. C'mon, EX! Even if it's graphically inferior, with by every conceivable measure it will be, a second version can reach out to the market of cheap bastards that the PS3 launch will fail to catch . . . and given the price and the amount of available consoles, I think that's going to be a lot of people (and money) to ignore in not porting the game to PS2.

Beyond the first title, I suppose I don't see any other PS2 games. It''s not realistic. But I can see just the one for sure. But only time will tell, huh?

Indeed you did. It's not that I'm afraid of another Ps2 game, it's just...my God, counting the GH B3 release and with BT2/NEO, I'll have 8 DBZ games for my Ps2 console (hell, 10 counting my Ps1 copies of Final Bout and UB22). I don't want anymore, I say! At least when it comes to my Ps2, and if Atari even attempts to release another one for this console, I may literally keel over in agony.

Regarding the Wii, I definitely plan to pick up that console and any DBZ games that are released for it (well, following BT2/NEO, I have no interest in owning two copies of the same game, regardless the innovative differences). You can bet your life I wanna play more DBZ games, but enough with the Ps2. Bring on the releases for the Wii, which is what they're finally starting to do! The Ps3 however...too expensive and doesn't peek my interest and curiosity nearly as much as the Wii.

See what I'm saying?

Certainly not every game! But we were refering to the sequel of Sparking! Neo which is, indeed, "about pulling a hundred million characters out of your ass". :D
