From everything I've seen, a game can have 8 save files and each features whatever character you create for it. When entering into a versus mode, you only have access to the character from that save file, but you can pick from any of the 8(?) costumes you set for them.

No, it's me whose probably wrong unfortunately. I thought that you could select from any of the charecters created on the game on that specific consoles hard drive.

I think this is the most disappointing thing about the game for me, really. I mean, it shouldn't be too hard for them to allow us access to all of our created characters from one save file, should it? Surely they could have foreseen people wanting to battle each other with their custom chara -

...Oh. Right. I guess the 'majority' does that via internet now. Grrrrr.

It also sucks cuz I was hoping to use the other created slots to create characters from my fic possibly, but now there just seems like less reason to do that when I can't even pit them against each other.

Pretty sure I saw a stream where a guy's other custom character was hanging around in TokiToki when he was playing with his primary CAC. Possible that your other customs will hang around the city and you can recruit them for quests.

It's a demo though, so can you really use it as evidence? Back then there was no access to story mode or character creation. They just had multiple avatars accessible because they wanted you to help get a feel for the gameplay and characters you could create.

Obviously it would have been possible for them to do, I'm just fairly certain they didn't. (Prove me wrong, please.)

Are all the fights in the story mode fought by your created character? I'd find that rather boring if that was the case.

It's not like you don't fight both alongside and against the original characters during the course of the story. It's just that you personally are always in control of your avatar. Controlling the original cast during the Story Mode would feel weird since the whole point of the plot is to immerse yourself in the Dragon World and watch your own story unfold.

No I get it, but I thought there would be scenario's where your character would show up and prevent a change in history which would then lead to say Goku defeating Frieza like he was meant to do. I wouldn't want that to happen all the time but perhaps now and then sure.

Being that I have no interest in the VS mode or playing online against other people or playing with different characters on my own just for the sake of it and am only really interested in the story then it's not going to create much opportunity for me to play as the other characters.

Nah, once your character gets history back on track, they leave the timeline and let things take their natural course. So for example, extremely minor spoiler, once your player helps resolve the Freeza Arc issues, Goku asks to be the one to finish Freeza and your character returns to the future before the battle ends.

The only time you play as an original character during the Story Mode is the introduction, where you play as Goku and face off against Z's 3 main big bads. (Which was actually the same content that comprised their first game demo.)

O_O. You realize that you're literally doing the Raditz to Buu formula here too right? Only this time as your created character in a series of never ending team battles.

You're fighting the same characters in pretty much the order in an attempt to restore the status quo. How some of you haven't realized this yet is baffling.

That was just a huge missed opportunity when it came to Burst Limit. I have no idea what they were thinking when they decided to only go up to the Cell Arc.

Dimps should never have made Infinite World. Burst Limit should have come out November instead of June and they could have used all the extra time and hands to put the Buu saga and maybe GT into the game.

Not in the game they were playing. They haven't unlocked him on that roster, same with Super Yi Xing Long.
