I loved Battle of Gods (been a fan for nearly 15 years at this point), and am enjoying the information about Fukkatsu no F. I haven't found anything that I find to be a big inconsistency (honestly, I'm having trouble seeing the small ones), and I'm someone that usually worries about that sort of thing in other franchises. Constructive criticism is good, but considering we don't have all the answers yet (not by a long-shot, it seems), I think it might be more fun to speculate about what the answers to these potential inconsistencies could be

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
I agree with almost everything you are saying, except the bolded stuff. In a case like this with Toriyama, is that really that fair of a statement? Yeah he's the original author of the content we on this forum love. I personally love pretty much every work he puts out and I still fully support him writing whatever stories he wants to tell, but I honestly don't think its disrespectful or anything to desire that someone just glance over what he writes and point out some minor corrections for the sake of consistency (once again, things like dates, character ages, number of wishes, how dead bodies work, etc). Why? Because I think it is very important to note that said original content (the manga) that we came to love only came to be what it is in the first place because he had people watching over his shoulders in the form of his editors. Of course things can never turn out perfect, but they did try to keep him in line and help maintain some of the consistency, as well as reject ideas they didn't think were for the good of the series/popular with the fans.Gyt Kaliba wrote:But to take it to a level where you constantly disparage the original creator, saying 'man they suck nowadays, they should just stop and let other people take care of their creation', or 'they really shouldn't be allowed to write things anymore without someone holding their hand or at least watching over their shoulder', or so on?That, to me, seems to be flying in the face of the truth that, without those original authors, you wouldn't have the material that you do like anymore either. So if they still feel like they have stories to tell, and other affiliated parties agree and decide to produce said new material, then they should be allowed to put out this new material. And while it's definitely fair game for people to like or dislike said material, I don't really think it's right for there to be so much vitriol thrown the author's way either. Just an iota more respect shown to the people who gave you material that you love, that you've made it a point to come to a community dedicated to one of those works, is all I would ask, personally.

To clarify, I do agree that it's probably a good idea for Toriyama (or any manga author, or author in general) to have an editor or someone, even if it's just a friend or relative, to look over their work and make sure it's the best it can be. Toriyama's editors are a big part of what made Dragon Ball as we know it into what it is, just as Toei and the voice cast and Kikuchi are all responsible as well for making the anime version we know into what it is (it all goes back to Toriyama and his editors at the start of course though). So I do agree that it'd be nice if we had someone who would do that for Toriyama now.
What I was decrying with that comment though was the spirit in which it normally seems to be said, as if Toriyama completely on his own is incapable of giving us interesting material. I might be putting words in people's mouths, but it just normally seems to be coming from a place of throwing even more accusations at Toriyama, rather than just wishing for even more consistent material.
Like I said, I can't control what people think or what they say, and I'd never want to nor should anyone else, but all I ask is just the slightest nod of respect to the guy who started it all, ya know?

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
On a completely different note, I was thinking about the theory of Goten and Trunks dying in this movie (either being mistaken for their father/future counterpart, or just as part of Freeza's vengeance), and while I still kind of doubt it'll happen...well, I got to thinking that if it did happen, the only way it would fly is if we were for sure getting a third movie, or they just end this one saying they're going to use the Namekian Dragon Balls to wish them back, since both boys have died and been brought back before...but thinking back, that was via the Namekian Dragon Balls. So...Shenron would still be able to revive them, wouldn't he? Or was the 'can only wish someone back once' rule entirely firm on all sides, rather than just applying to people that Shenron personally had brought back once before?

Nah, I get where you're coming from and I agree with it to. I can't really defend Dragon Ball Minus, but even though a lot of people like the other stuff he's written lately, it foes feel like the people who don't enjoy it just go overboard with the hate. I just wanted to point out the editor thing though because I feel it helps to complete both sides of that discussion.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I knew there was something I forgot to have in my post, thanks for bringing this up.

Nah, the rule applies in general. It's not dragon specific. Gohan worries about everyone at the Cell Games being unable to revive afterward if things go bad (via Shenlong), though Tenshihan and Yamcha had only been restored via Porunga.Gyt Kaliba wrote: So...Shenron would still be able to revive them, wouldn't he? Ahh, that's right. So supposing something did happen to Goten or Trunks (or anyone else in the movie), we would need either some kind of on-or-off-screen notification that they're using the Namekian Balls again, or it'd be some kind of lead-in for a follow-up, probably.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Nah, the rule applies in general. Toyotarō/Akira Toriyama illustrations in manga special of what Freeza considers an hell is actually quite funny.

You're right it is like Toriyama don't really care that those plot holes let us fans disappointed...lord turbo wrote:...I ain't trying to be a dick here, but this is what I'm observing so far from Toriyama. Oddly enough, Oda from One Piece is the kind of explaining every single inconsistent that's in One Piece in a reasonable fashion it seems, even if most his answers are somewhat comical.
That's not funny, Dragon Ball is indeed serious for us just like Star WarsUpFromTheSkies wrote:The difference between Dragon Ball and Star Wars is that Dragon Ball isn't meant to be taken seriously, while Star Wars is. Dragon Ball is just for fun and laughs, not serious plots and character development.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread for a week, so what pages from the FnF manga have been leaked?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

A small handful. You're better off just reading the synopsis on the main site and waiting for someone to release the full thing.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:I haven't been keeping up with this thread for a week, so what pages from the FnF manga have been leaked?
Here's everything I have if you're interested. If I'm missing anything, someone let me know.
Here's the preview of chapter 2. The only thing worth mentioning is
that Whis seems to be training them, and their fight woke up Beerus.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
I'm curious if they're going to show how Whis training Goku and Vegeta came about exactly. I mean, it's clear that both of them were of interest to him, as well as Beerus (even if Beerus wasn't nearly as willing to admit it), but other than that, there wasn't really even much suggestion that it would happen...even though pretty much all of us totally called it. So did Goku (dragging Vegeta along no doubt) somehow approach Whis about it, or did Whis approach them about it after Beerus went back to sleep?
It also just occurred to me that this is the first time Goku's trained under a new master since Kaio.

I doubt it will be covered much in the manga, but I'm sure the movie will expand on it. The first chapter feels like it skipped a lot of what we're going to see at the beginning in order to room for Freeza's appearance.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I'm curious if they're going to show how Whis training Goku and Vegeta came about exactly.
