Why is it so hard to believe that at the time, Freezer was widely considered the most powerful in the universe? As far as he knew? He was famous for his reputation. Not everyone knows everyone in the world? Why would you expect everyone to know of everyone in the universe? Nobody knew Goku existed really and no one hardly ever seems to know. Goku didn't know about Freeza or Vegeta or Radditz. It seems pretty easy to suspend disbelief here. Also whenever someone in real life is attributed such a title as strongest in the world it's usually a novelty more then absolute fact.

For some fans, it seems that every single possible line of dialog in the original manga that was not demonstrably contradicted within the same run of the manga, is an absolute, unmovable, eternal, scientifically and algorithmically calculated, objectively correct statement from God himself regarding the nature of reality within the Dragon Ball story. These statements also happen to be comprehensive. Every true statement regarding the nature of reality within the Dragon Ball story is already known, and nothing more can be added. To contradict one of these hallowed statements of absolute and comprehensive truth is an unforgivable sin of the most grave degree, as it goes against the sacred status quo of the perfectly written manga (and pre-approved pieces of supplementary information from guidebooks and interviews) that certainly never had poor writing, inconsistencies, plot holes, out-of-left-field additions, shark jumping moments, or retcons.

Nevermind that these same fans would probably throw a fit if there was a 15 year gap in the real world between the 23rd TB arc and the Saiyan arc. The main character being retconned to be alien out of nowhere, the spiritual force of ki becoming measurable by technology, the main character being retconned to get free powerups whenever he recovers from near death, Freeza in general, poorly written time travel, earth robots with power dwarfing Freeza, the Buu arc's ridiculous characterization and contrived fights, etc.

It feels like every single problem that people have with this film can be fixed with a simple "well I guess we don't actually know every detail about X".

I'd kind of feel more secure about the movie if we had a comment from him instead. Not to say Torishima is a bad editor, but Yu Kondo supervised the better parts of the manga, imo, which makes me more secure about his skill.

Maybe, but since Kondo is supposed to be the basis for Freeza, it might come off as a little...sketchy if he praised the film's scenario. Not that I think he'd really be easily swayed like that, or that he ought to say bad things instead, but it would look funny if nothing else. I mean, I joked earlier about Torishima only praising the film because Piccolo (supposedly based off him) had a big role. If Kondo praised the film a lot, the jokes would be unavoidable.

Anyway, out of all the editors Torishima really has the reputation as the one who was hard to please, though Kondo was picky too. And Takeda is supposed to be the lenient one. But strict doesn't necessarily equal good. Like you said, it's hard to avoid noticing that Kondo was editor during the series' most popular streak (Saiyan/Freeza/Cell). Maybe Torishima was a bit too strict, and Takeda too lenient, but Kondo just right?

Piccolo basically stopped fighting after the Cell saga right? How can we still hold him as the same standard as Semi-Perfect Cell or that Super-Perfect Cell is a high standard? The world has moved on from then, just like how Goku said Goten and Trunks could beat Freeza (hint hint), would anyone have thought that whilst watching the Freeza saga?

How? We literally do not know anything about that scene at all, what if Piccolo had to take 529 of them one before and this one finally managed to land a punch? What if that ring amplified their powers? What if it is Freeza is disguise? What if the ring depowers Piccolo? What if Freeza gathered all the strong beings across the 7 universes?
