Cursing on the forum.
Hi, is there any chance we could consider censor out curse words, mainly just F word? I am not a frequent user of curse words both online and in real life, so maybe this only applies to me but I find it off putting and it does looks unpleasant to read. Thanks.

This site is aimed at adults, if you can't accept that then go to one that isn't..

Re: Cursing on the forum.
Since it is aimed at adults surely adults can have civilized conversation without cursing every odd post? Cursing is more immature than mature I feel.Kakacarrottop wrote:This site is aimed at adults, if you can't accept that then go to one that isn't..

It is because we are adults that we do not take offense at words. Words are not offensive, the things we mean with them are.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Since it is aimed at adults surely adults can have civilized conversation without cursing every odd post? "Civilized" would be giving people the freedom to say whatever words they feel like without having to censor them.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Since it is aimed at adults surely adults can have civilized conversation without cursing every odd post? Re: Cursing on the forum.
Eh, mods will tidy up your posts if you're being too coarse.
I remember someone changing a post of mine from something along the lines up 'they fucked up' to 'they messed up'.
Can't say I agree with that kinda thing but whatever, it's not a big deal.

Re: Cursing on the forum.
I don't find offence in cursing, I just think it looks unpleasant like how sub fans find dubisms unpleasant. This is something that has bugged me for while, just wanted get this off my chest and see if anything can be done or if others feel the same, if not I can certainly live with it.

Let's all try to be a little more respectful of our fellow fans. Just because someone has an issue with something doesn't give anyone else the right to throw it in their face. Not being a fan of curse words has nothing to do with not being an adult, and throwing antagonistic images at someone will most certainly not be tolerated.

Re: Cursing on the forum.
The solution is pretty simple. Have a language filter turned on by default and allow users the option to turn it off.
Re: Cursing on the forum.
That isn't really simple. That's like the people who want an off topic forum because they want to discuss off topic stuff. What about if someone complaints about mild fanservice in someone's avatar?NitroEX wrote:The solution is pretty simple. The forum is the forum, everyone knows what's up and what it is. The person had a complaint, they gave it.
The forum will no doubt continue to go on being the forum and it's up to them to decide if they want to be around with that material.
My view of cursing always skews to Stephen Fry- https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... _osQvkeNRM
If someone wanted to they could go around being a jackass in any thread they want without ever cursing, thereby making the threads 'off putting and unpleasant to read' which was the person's complaint in bringing up cursing.

Re: Cursing on the forum.
That probably came across the wrong way, my bad.
I don't have a problem with swearing and I'm not pro censorship at all, in fact I consider myself quite the opposite. A filter option just seemed like a hypothetical way to keep both sides happy and solve the issue present in the thread. I'm used to filters from using family friendly sites in the past as well as blood filters in video games so it's normal to me at this point. I don't actually expect to see it happen in this forum though as I imagine it would take a lot of work to implement.

Re: Cursing on the forum.
I don't really have a problem with swearing. In most non-English speaking countries, such as the one I live in, English curse word are thrown around VERY casually, even more so than in the US, and always disproportionately, due to most people not understanding the weight of the words. So, I'm used to it. I myself will use the more mild words casually with other high schoolers, but I never use the more strong or insensitive ones. Strong ones I may use if I actually am peeved, but insensitive ones don't ever leave my mouth. That being said, I'm not in a position to hinder other people's free speech unless they're in my parent's household. Currently, we're in the territory that belongs to the four mods, so it's really up to them.

And in a discussion board, the things we mean are written with words. Not to mention that anybody can take offense, adult or not.JulieYBM wrote:It is because we are adults that we do not take offense at words. Words are not offensive, the things we mean with them are.
Although I don't have a big problem with cursing per se, I do believe Baggie_Saiyan's argument is sound. Cursing is not something that fits any productive and civilized discussion.
