Well seeing as how Whis' could see into the past, I'm sure he could also know how Freeza actually was defeated. Doesn't matter much though since the new movie acknowledges Trunks thankfully. Freeza wants both Goku and Trunks, not just Goku. I'm happy about that.
Too bad Freeza won't see Trunks (Or any variation of him) in the movie.

Well, Beerus did say the word slay which means kill though. Regardless, Whis can show images from past events, there is no reason events such as certain Half- Saiyan Teen arriving from the Future, along with the Cell and Majin Buu Fiasco shouldn't of been included as well.

Perhaps the movie can be redeemed with Freeza taking a page out of his brother play book, and running jump kicking one of the Saiyan's in the balls Meta Cooler style.

The 2008 special was consist of just a bunch of typical behaviors of the characters (especially in anime) that we all expect to happen, and nothing fresh was brought except for Tarble, who did literally nothing in the story. It was so special to the fans solely because it was the first reunion in a long while. It's really boring without its context in the franchise.

Is it confirmed Trunks and Goten won't be in the movie?
GT isn't bad, just sucks ass in comparison to the other 2 animes.

No, not yet. Still no sign of them, though.

Freeza's grape soda ad! hahaha I love this so much! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7QbSDhC_7Y
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

maybe there are some continuity altering time travel hijinks involved with this movie. Could be anything!

I dunno if I'd go that far. BOG outshines it pretty badly, yeah, but I still absolutely love the Goku/Vegeta interaction in that special. The turnip bit was also pretty great.

And the more I think about it, the more I enjoy Tarble for what he is. Originally I was kinda disappointed we didn't get to see him fight, or so much as throw a punch, but now...I enjoy the novelty of how unexpected he is. You'd expect Vegeta's brother, if he had one, to be someone super strong and really into fighting just like him...but nope...it's a guy who's pretty much the polar opposite.

Confirmed? No. Looking all the more likely as time goes on? Well...

I've never seen someone undersell something so much. You forgot to mention that it's hilarious, well made, and has some of the best inter character interactions this side of south city. Heck, I liked it better than BoG even.

I loved it! I love Goku and Vegeta in the movie. The plot while basic didn't make me doze off. Most importantly it kept me entertained. Funny, Good action, and good character interaction Something BoG didn't do. So Imo 2008 special was better.

I don't know about that. I think he will appear. I find it hard to believe he mentions revenge on Trunks, but never see's him.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I liked a 2008 OVA a hell of lot. Sure it did nothing to shake up the continuity, but I loved the character interactions, between Goku and Vegeta, the fight scenes were really cool and overall it was pretty funny. I guess you could say it was precursor for things to come in BOG.

I did enjoy the Jump 08's "Gokû is incredibly bored and so has decided to make it his mission at this party to mess with Vegeta as much as he possibly can.". It was magical. :3
It also makes Vegeta look less over-obsessive when the object of his obsession takes notice and decides to play along.

Oh God; I can't wait to see their interactions in this movie. If they bond over their classmates experience under Whis, only to have Vegeta go undercover (possibly w/o telling Gokû because it's Gokû after all) to infiltrate Freeza's army and pretend to be turn-coating on Gokû....aaugh! The pained/heartbroken look on his face as he watches Vegeta turn and walk away! Image

I am genuinely feeling good about this movie right now. :D
On hiatus.

My love for the warmth of the 2008 special aside, I agree with Kei that it otherwise does little to contribute to the franchise and stands solely on the merit of nostalgia. These new films are developing the characters--as well as we can expect from Toriyama--and adding in new characters that are actually worth remembering. Fukkatsu no F might very well make us re-think some old characters, too!

That and it's giving us Jako fighting alongside the cast!!

I agree. at first when I seen his new form I was a little eh but then seeing that trailer just made it awesome. I'm definitely going to order the Bluray of this from Japan like I did with Battle of Gods but I wonder if it'll have a nice package like BOG?

We're getting another Kikoho. And at that end of the day that is all that really matters.

I kind of doubt it since the two things are probably unrelated, but...I wonder if Jaco appearing here makes it any more likely that we'll eventually see an animated version of his manga?

Or a stand alone sequel or original story?
