The general consensus by most of the writers of the big continuity focused franchise (Marvel, Star Wars, DC, etc) is that continuity is a good supplement to a story, not an end-all, be-all that has to be adhered to. If a long continuity is felt by the writers to be detrimental to character development, or just to telling the story they want to tell, then they either ignore it (like Zahn retconning Luke Skywalker having seen Mara Jade prior to the events of Return of the Jedi, and Mara's status as the "only" Emperor's Hand), wipe the old stuff clean (Crisis on Infinite Earths, Spider-Man making a deal with the Devil to annul his marriage ), or just flat-out say the opposite of what previous works established (the Troy Denning era of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.)
Continuity exists to serve the story the author wants to tell, not have a stranglehold on it.

Even though I don't speak Japanese, I'm still laughing a lot at this. The Ginyu Force, Cooler and King Cold must be pissed about Freeza getting his own movie and them not even getting cameos or mentions.

We haven't seen a single shot of Vegeta with battle damage, or of him fighting Freeza, which makes me think that might be in the next movie. And there's also Ryūsei Nakao's comment about watching until the very end of the movie, "and then maybe once more".
And then maybe once more line Is directed to Freeza fans.
I think that he says that because you see Freeza still alive at the end of the movie.

That red guy must be another random soldier (who punched hard Piccolo with Nail and Kami fused and passed under many trainings ).
I think Tagoma will indeed die early in the movie, but who knows?

I just put this picture together of a comparison between one of the shots from the first and second trailer and well, look at the difference, it's huge.

Considering he doesn't give a shit about them, it wouldn't be for that reason. If he cared so much about his Saiyan brethren, he'd revive Raditz and not kill Nappa. He didn't care about killing Goku most of the time when he's the last pure saiyan. Vegeta doesn't give a shit about the saiyans. If he didn't care about his saiyan brethren back then, he sure as hell doesn't now.

That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.

That's true he doesn't care about the Saiyans as people. But he definitely cares about the concept of "being Saiyan", as evidenced by his wearing Saiyan clothes, his being proud of his Saiyan fighting spirit, his pushing for Goku and Gohan/Trunks(/Goten) to embrace their Saiyan fighting spirit, etc. And of course him constantly calling himself the Prince of the Saiyans despite the fact that there's no more Saiyan kingdom.
