How would you have done GT differently?

Title's self-explanatory. I personally liked the concepts and details surrounding each of the main villains, just didn't think they were handled properly.

I would make Pan's bratty personality being the result of Goku not visiting those 5 years like he promised rather than just being disrespectful. This would make her much more relatable to the audience, and not make her intolerable to pretty much everyone past the age 12 (mentally and physically) as she would constantly try to prove her worth to Goku and co. as well as questioning her relationship with her grandpa. Her tomboyish attitude could also bounce off Oob's introvert nature really well both comically and emotionally.

Bra would also be a character who tries to be a Bulma clone rather than simply being a Bulma clone with less character because she's her mom and kids her age tend to really look up their parents. This in turn would make her a bit of load to the team at first as she would be real reluctant against the messier jobs and worry about superficial stuff like her looks until later on she starts to find a bit of her own identity.

Oob would be kinda the Straight Man of the group. He would be kind, gentle, and a bit weak-minded but serious and brave in where it really counts. He would get along with Bra just fine sans from the occasional flirting on Bra's part but his relationship with Pan would get off with a rocky start due to Oob getting all of Goku's attention. However, overtime they begin to become good friends... maybe even more. Oh and he would also pick up on some of Goku's personality quirks.

Also, Giru should fuck off.

4. The power levels would be more in line with how they are in the manga. No Base GT Goku >> Buuhaniccolo or shit like that.

It's hard to honestly answer this question without outright saying, "I'd make a different series."

a) I would have it set only a year or 3 after the EoZ era. I don't know why they skipped so far.
b) GT Kid Goku should not be a thing.
c) Remove the entire Super 17 arc. Remove all of the Bebi saga.
d) Give Uub and the rest of the new roster their own mini saga before progressing to the main story. This can apply to DBZ, though.
e) Visuals should look more alike to DBZ (in the brightness department), honestly. I hate how gritty GT looks.
f) Combine the Shadow Dragon arc with the Black Star Dragon Ball saga. Basically, this should have been GT in its entirety. The premise is simple: dragon balls crack, Pilaf or whomever summon Shenron, he erodes and splits into the Shadow Dragons, and the dragons are scattered across the universe. These dragons quickly alter the worlds they've landed on and threaten to create chaos, so they have to be defeated quickly. Instead of a cast of three exploring each world, different groups will visit the different dragons, giving EVERY main character their own mini-arc and unique world to explore. Note that the dragons do not need to share the same origins they have in GT and Goku's IT might not work for some particular reason. After completing the mission, a "big bad" villain can appear, and that is when Goku can be forced to turn SSJ4--at the very end. Oh yeah, that also means no SSJ4 Vegeta or Gogeta.

Take out the whole "Goku wished back to having a child's body" thing entirely. The only purpose it served was making it even more obvious that they were rehashing DB, and Super Saiyan 4 basically made it a non-factor when it came time for "serious" stuff anyway.

Rewrite the Black Star Dragon Ball stuff such that it doesn't require Kami being such a gigantic asshole pre-Piccolo that he thought it'd be a great idea to create a set of Dragon Balls that would fucking destroy the Earth if they were ever found and used. Possibly remove them entirely and come up with something else to justify Goky and company bouncing around the galaxy.

Everyone tries to take down Omega but fail which leads to a fusion between Goku&Vegeta.

In terms of Ssj4 I don't think it's needed so Goku&Vegeta will use Ssj3,Goten&Trunks will use Ssj2 and Gohan will use his Mystic form.

It's amazing how fans can come up with better stories off the to of their heads while the people who get payed to and have months worth of time can't.

I pretty much agree with all of this except I didn't mind Giru tbh.

- Trunks was a badass as a kid. Keep the attitude.
I'm fine with Goten's personality in GT but don't make him weak.

- Super 17's power level just doesn't make sense. Either heavily improve on the saga's plot or ditch the character altogether.

- Give Vegeta more screen time. He doesn't necessarily need to reach Goku's level immediately but give him some wins against enemies that other "Z fighters" can't handle.

- Baby was a great character and I'm fairly satisfied with the entire saga involving him. I'd just add a final fight after he leaves Vegeta's body. Make Baby in his original adult form strong enough to fight against SSJ4 Goku.

- Expand the series and add more sagas like an Ubb centered story, something involving the Makaioshin, a new Tenkaichi Budokai tournament etc.

- Make fights faster and more detailed, actually rival the epicness of DBZ.

These are some great ideas. I think the whole space adventure could've worked if they stuck to battles like you suggested and remained faithful to the DBZ universe (i.e. races from Freeza saga). Baby's story felt like Garlic Junior meets Majin Buu which sounds just terrible even on paper.

It may be easier to pick at DBGT having hindsight of newer successful franchises though.

1. Piccolo, Goten and Trunks are the guys who go to space, Nameless Namek made the Black Stars so Piccolo would feel responsible for getting them back.
2. Goku is left an old man on his deathbed from Pilaf's wish instead of a child.
3. Vegeta takes over as Uub's master with Gohan, Pan and later Bra joining in.
4. In-between the space travelers adventures we'd cut back to Earth occasionally to the other characters with one big chunk being devoted to android versions of old villains appearing as a replacement for the whole break out of hell thing.
5. The old bad guys give characters chances to show off their stuff: Vegeta gets to off Freeza, Uub proves himself by defeating Cooler, The humans get a chance to give Nappa payback, 17 & 18 fight Imperfect Cell, Pan helps her dad kill Cell with a father & daughter Kamehameha
6- Piccolo's increased role in training the younger gen helps Goten & Trunks get the emotional push to become SSJ2s and to train more.
7. Super Android 17 & 18 come from an alternate timeline where they killed Bulma & Trunks and used his time machine to travel to other time lines to destroy and conquer them, increasing their own powers through energy absorption, alien tech they'd steal from Freeza & other alien species they'd run into. They captured old villains from timelines, upgraded them and used them as an advanced scouting party to attack & test the main history fighters power.
8. It gets revealed that Goku killed Gero's son during his last attack on the Red Ribbon base, explaining his hatred for Goku which sets the whole Super Android saga into motion.
9. Super Saiyan 4 gets renamed to Super Saiyan Prime or Ultimate Saiyan.
10. More serious Shadow Dragons.
12. SSJ4 Gogeta is only strong enough to stalemate Omega, not dominate him.
13. Uub kills Omega with a Spirit Bomb but Goku dies from his injuries, the Dragon Balls leave Earth.
14. Goku is taken in by Supreme Kai of time as part of the time patrol to help fix all the alternate time lines ruined by the Super Androids with Future Trunks and Piccolo aiding him.

broadly, i'd keep the 3 plotlines the same. They all pretty much work in idea, just not execution. I'll also be ignoring anything Beerus related, as he would not have existed at this point

Generalities:

1. Main cast is Pan, Bra, Uub, Goten, and Trunks with more of an emphasis on the 1st three
1a. Bra is similar in personality to her brief canon appearance, which is somewhat similar to Goku's own personality. She's enthusiastic and loves fighting. She's already a Super Saiyan dresses in a kame gi. She is shown to have trained under the old Z fighters and frequently uses their moves.
1b. Bra is more similar to Gohan. Definitely capable of fighting but doesn't have a passion for it. Becomes a super Saiyan over the course of the show. Wears an outfit similar to canon GT pans, only blue instead of red. BFFs with Pan despite their differences
1c. Uub is similar in personality to Teen Gohan, but is the strongest of the group at the onset, capable of fighting SSJ3 Goku evenly.
1d. Trunks is the tech guy whereas Goten is a mentorish character, primarily towards Bra who like him isn't interested in fighting for life. After the first arc they step down as Main characters and others take on the role on an arc to arc basis

2. No Goku wank or other other PL inconsistencies.

3. Try to avoid plotholes

4. SSJ4 is redisigned to give it more connection to previous SSJ forms. In particular, whilst each SSJ4 has unique hair color, their fur is super saiyan blond.

Baby Arc

1. Goku still gets deaged, but instead of being a kid he's outright a baby
2. The Blackstar Balls scatter across the galaxy but there is no blowing up the earth thing, that let's the early adventures have a legit light hearted tone.
3. Largely the same plots until Baby get's to earth, just suitably altered to adjust to the different Cast.
4. Baby is more of a hive mind, posessing several characters with the primary body being Gohan. Vegeta's body is the dragon, to use TV tropes terms. Pan and Bra fight Baby Vegeta whilst Uub fights Baby Gohan
5. Uub is outclassed by Gohan but Buu pulls his sacrafice thing and he becomes Majin Uub, who's on par.
6. Pan becomes an SSJ4 similar to how Goku did, and starts kicking Vegeta's ass.
7. Using memories from Baby infected Piccolo, Baby has Gohan and Vegeta do the fusion dance, creating Vegehan.
8. Pan and Uub battled Vegehan but are outclassed. Bra battles Piccolo to release the water that cures everybody.
9. Due to the fusion, Vegehan isn't cured by the water but once they Defuse Vegeta and Gohan will be cured. Pan and Uub focus on keeping Vegehan on earth until that point.

Super 17 arc.

1. Babidi is in on the plan with Gero and Myu.
2. The Main villain of the arc is a modifed Cell, not 17. The trop create duplicates of 17 and 18 who fuse with the living versions and become super strong, but cell is the primary threat.
3. The hell invasion is used to gather all the Z fighters and hold a badass army vs army scene.
4. Goku confronts cell whilst Gohan and Uub fight 17 and 18. Cell eventually abosrbs the two of them to grow stronger, forcing Gohan and Uub to fuse into Uhan.
5. Uhan isn't strong enough to outright defeat Cell, So Goku is forced to find Vegeta so they can use their last resort, Vegito.
6. Vegito manages to defeat Cell and a close fight, but makes it known to the other Z fighters that he refuses to be defused, as he considers himself a person in his own right and not just a combo of Goku and Vegeta

Shadow Dragon Saga

1. Instead of collecting them one at a time, the Z warriors split up to go after them. Vegito, Pan, Bra, Gohan, Uub, 18(who's goood self retains access to the super 18 power), and Goten+Trunks each go after one. During the battles, Bra achieves SSJ4
2. The early comedic dragons are given secondary more powerful forms in order to pose more of a threat
3. Syn is the one Vegito confronts. Rather than fight immediately, he distracts Vegito with Conversation as the other dragons fight.
4. Syn uses the special powers of the other dragons (sans Nova who is still fighting Pan) to fight vegito, but eventually loses
5. Pan battles Nova to a draw and manages to talk him into conceding, on the grounds that he can fight her again.
6. Just as they shake on it...Vegito teleports in and blasts them both, killing Nova and Pan.
7. Syn, in talking with Vegito, utilized his own power, the manipulation of negative energy. He amplified the negative feelings inside Vegito and used them to turn Vegito evil.
8. Taking a page from Super Buu, Vegito uses the human extinction attack to wish that every planet in the universe be destroyed.
9. Kibitokai manages to rescue Moori before New Namek blows, and the kai planets are saved from destruction because they don't count as in the universe.
10. King Enma traps Vegito in a prison dimension, but knows that it's only a temporary solution.
11. The Z warriors meet up on the Kai planet, and try to think of a way to defeat Vegito. Their only option is potara fusion, and after a tense discussion, it's decided that Bra and Pan will Fuse
12. Final battle in the empty universe: Vegito vs. Bran

Well this is what I liked.

I suppose GT done differently, move the Shadow Dragons arc to the forefront, and combine it with the Hunt for the Dragonballs GT Arc. Bulma would have invented Giru to be a sentient Dragon Radar. Anyways, Pan, Giru, and Uub go look for the dragonballs and already find them cracked. Everyone meets for the wish, A Shadow Dragon appears, Omega I guess. He decides to do the whole "Blow up Earth in one year unless you find the scattered dragonballs across the galaxy." Goku and Vegeta attack the Dragon, ruthlessly beaten, and to humiliate them, instead of killing them, turns them both into kids. ( ) And they are way too weak-they would be as strong as Goten and Trunks were in the Buu saga, Super Saiyan included. This would leave Uub, Pan, Giru, Trunks and Goten to try and gather the balls. I suppose with this premise set, the goofy ass beginning would be the same. Any fights that GT Goku would be needed to win, Gotenks would handle in his place. Some way some how the stuff with Bebi still happens, Goku is the only one who escapes Bebi due to Kibitoshin. Wish for Planet Plant is still made, Omega Shenron recognizes Bebi-Vegeta as pure evil and chooses to allow this wish to happen Goku gets his SSJ4 and more or less the saga plays out. And Piccolo doesn't senselessly kill himself.

Goku and Vegeta are still kids, not because they want to. The Namekians on New Namek heard what happened with the Shadow Dragons and decide they won't intervene, so the Saiyans are stuck. A variant of the Super 17 Saga would happen I guess, with less of Myuu and Gero being allowed to construct Hell Androids. After all that, Goku and Vegeta now have access to Super Saiyan 4, and with Uub, Gotenks and Pan, summon Omega Shenron this time to defeat him and restore the Dragonballs back to normal, and a variant of the Shadow Dragons arc would happen. Also some time within the story Pan gets SSJ, Goten and Trunks get SSJ2.

Agreed! Loving some of the ideas in this thread, the idea of Babidi aiding Gero during the Super 17 saga is something I've always loved. I think it would have been better to have had Babidi control 17 and 18, assuming that the cyborgs of the current timeline even had any evil left within them.

Simple, being there more coherent story.... Guys like Ledgic promissing their return and never show up.
Goku using SSJ2 more instead of destroying liquid metal ball. Being there more Trunks and even Pan action.
Like the same tactics used before. Goku is strong as hell, so are the enemies and his allies are on a level on which they can't defeat even Freeza probably....
What would yo do? Let them try, acomplish something and when situation is in hell, send in Goku, that somehow prepared for it and will save the day with some trouble.

This mechanic is abandoned in GT: Goku is there from the beginning, fight goes on with some difficulties, everyone else is irrelevant.

Uub, the next Earth's protector is abandoned and useless. Only to be partially able to stall Baby, absorbing Buu and get eaten and later, punching Baby's stomach from inside only to throw some light balls on Android 17 and have a bleeding arm in the climax.

Vegeta is totally useless only to cheat himself into SSJ4 by the technology of his enemies as fusion fodder and later lying bleeding on the ground.

Pan is weak. Gohan is there and can go yellow, Goten is almost his carbon copy, tough he isn't married yet, telephones a lot and dating girls.

Majin Buu was probably my second favorite character in GT, only to get killed off.

Piccolo.... Piccolo was nowhere and when he appears, he is standing and waiting for death, which creates outburst of sadness after 30+ episodes that makes sense only if you saw both the first preceeding series.

SSJ4 is literally pulled from Goku's ass, because 30 years after Kami magically sealing his tail there, the tail wants to get out.

All the hunt for dragon ball being useless in the end, as child Goku dies a mysterious death and rides away on a dragon.

The series is fucking rudiculous.

Music - It should retain the original. I believe the score is one of the best, especially with Dan Dan Kokoro remixes playing through certain parts. Very powerful
Animation - Well, I like when it have solid good animation in GT, but considering this is Toei we're talking about.. :p
Character Design: I have no issue.. other than Bra's. She's 9 for goodness sake!
Fix Plots Holes here and there and inconsistency.

Ultimate Dragon Ball Arc
- Goku is still a kid
- Goku, Pan and Trunks remained the Trio for the Galactic Adventure. However, more emphasis on Pan's character development. Giru becomes their 4th member (and became their Dragon Radar). This develops more opportunity between Pan and Giru's relationship, since Toriyama favors duos.
- Flesh out the episodes. I understand that they were aiming to capture the feeling of Dragon Ball Classical Humor. Each hunt for the Dragon Ball should last about 1-3 or so episodes. Here's an example: The Episode that refers too Whiskers creating the Earthquake. It's a rather homage to Oolong. That episode should be fleshed out, while keeping a homage, but have something different. Something like that.
- Give Redgic a bigger role, damnit! (He would later become a recurring member for Goku's allies) :p
- Revision Planet M2
- Possibility some reference to Battle of Gods
- "Whoa.. General Rilld have a higher power than Mr. Boo back on Earth!"
- Create a better explanation around Bebi's creation (since it kind of implied that Bebi somehow created Myuu despite being in that stage lel)
- Have more scenes back at Earth, especially Krillin and 18 (Where they have their own home, judging from Ending). This is the chance to give Goten a bit more personality, while keeping his "Player Game". Vegeta and Bra's relationship, Oob's adventures ( and the sort).
- Everything else should be updated or revised a bit
- Perhaps at the end, some screen shots of various planets they visit, including Tarble's home planet and possible run into Boos Rabbit location on some moon. "Making a Carrot Army or something?" :p

Bebi Arc
- Explanation of Saiyan and Tuffles.
- Bebi vs Goten, Goten vs Gohan, Piccolo vs Gohan is expanded and more in depth.
- "I have the strongest Saiya Power in face of history throughout the ages!" "Y-yeah.. You are very strong! You're the toughest opponent I ever fought!"
- When Goku gets suck to that weird Dimension. Instead of a game, how something refers to lucid acid trip?
- When Oob becomes Super Oob, Bebi Vegeta praises him as being a better opponenet than Son Goku. Throughout the battle, it seems to be a stalemate, but Bebi is edging over him due to Oob not wanting to kill Vegeta. Majin Boo gives him an idea that might force Bebi out without killing Vegeta. Thus, he let himself get eaten.
- Goku comes back to fight Bebi, doesn't do a thing. He gets rekt and about to be kill, but Pan comes in and use herself as a shield. (This relates to Pan's development with Son Goku).
- Goku grabs Pan, hugging her. This can be straight to the scene where he becomes Golden Oozaru and, brings more to the whole "Get your senses back" with that beach scene. Seems the staff was trying to capture the emotional accept of it.
- Running Gag: Bebi tries to destroy earth, but Goku managed to push the blast to another direction. It destroys whatever Boss Rabbit and his goons are."
- Bebi Oozaru notice that Goku is hesitating on killing Vegeta, thus takes a advantage of it. Then he farts.
- .....
- Mr. Boo's plan works.
- Okay, this can be a major game changer. Instead of Bebi trying to escape. He attempts to make a cut on Goku and take over his body instead. Only to be turned into chocolate by Oob. Then he gets place in the jar, with Bulma claiming "I'm going to make use for him". Thus, Bebi becomes a recurring character, living in Bulma's house, but stuck in a jar. If Vegeta walk past him, he shouts "Monkey walking down the hall!"

Super Android 17 Arc
- Krillin and 17 actually fights, mentions that he won't let him destroy the city, regardless if he's under control or not (This can be a reference that he became the chief of Police). 17 decides to shoot 18 and Marron dead, with Krillin taking the blow.
- Cue 18's scene.
- Depending on how RoF goes, Freeza reference the movie. He also mentions that because of that, he was move deeper levels of hell.
- Flesh out the battle between Goku vs Freeza and Cell.
- In this battle, Goku, Vegeta and 18 becomes the sole trio of battling Super 17. Equal parts of the battle between the three after Super 17 kicks the living tooth out of Ssj4 Goku (and absorbed the 10x Kamehameha).
- The rest of the gang are taking care of a few baddies. Coola is the only one that appears. There was a scene where Videl, ChiChi and Bulma wanted to join. Possiblity that Bulma use Bebi as a way a "suit for her" for battle?

Shadow Dragons -> Everything remains the same for the most part, though, here's some few changes.
- Battles are more fleshed out. Possible past characters assisting Goku, Oob and Pan?
- Oob assist Goku and Pan (and Giru) to fight the Shadow Dragons.
- Redgic comes around in Yi Xing Long Battle.
- I can't recall that one boy with the bird in Oceanus, but this can be a possible good connection. After a few days of spending time with him, Pan notice that he was the first boy that wasn't afraid of her strength.
- Liu Xing Long (?) "kills" the boy and the bird. This can be a possible connection of Pan turning SSj?
- Yi Xing Long's reasoning of doing things and blames that while Dragon Ball got them together and became friends, it was only time and not the rest of the world. Claiming that they care nothing about the others, and only use the balls for them in order to undo mistakes because it was convenience for them.
- Everyone comes to the final battle, including past allies (Bra is there too)
- Before Vegeta suggests Fusion, Goku and Vegeta fight Super Yi Xing Long. This can show off that they are fighting side by side in sync (though.. it might give shippers ammo )

Ending:
- Bra requests to train, in order to be strong. Vegeta accepts and train her. During their training session, Vegeta accidentally destroy Bra's items(?), she gets upset, turns SSj and punch Vegeta to a wall, causing him to faint in utter surprise from Bra.
- Oob returns to Mr. Satan and decides to split off from Mr. Boo, thanking him for everything he has done for him. (This sets up the whole Majin Boo race).
- Pan went ahead and creates a game based on their adventure (Possible connection to Heroes?)
- Have the cast sing the Dan Dan Ending
