so i once read in a interview with toriyama that his kids like One piece way more than dragonball ...well taste can be different but! here is the thing toriyama actually did go with his artstyle in the direction of one piece which means less muscle less buff dudes as seen in his most recent artworks
well also i have the feeling that this affected the fighting in the Dragonball universum as well ...back in the 90' it was all more and more action ...this change ..now it´s more about having fun and friends and love ...
what you think is the Dragonbal universum softer now?
the new movie promise to be more action ...we will see.. battle of gods ..was like ..

did not like the movie it had some weird fighting scenes ....
i am sorry for my really bad english!

Yeah it definitely seems that way. Though at least with Battle of Gods there was no real need for any kind of violence like what the series had because Beerus wasn't really that kind of villain.
Revival of F doesn't seem to be as soft as the last movie, people will actually die in this one (like Tagoma) but I don't expect it to be as violent or as intense as what the series was which would be a shame but we'll see.

I think it will depend on the story.
BOG for example had a light hearted villain so there wasn't a reason to go dark but with FNF we're getting on of the most violent villains in the story so the movie is darker this time.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Yes, Dragon Ball is too soft and Toriyama knows it, that's why he has Beerus address this in the upcoming movie, once he realizes they aren't up for the challenge and he needs to step in to show em how hardcore DBZ needs to be
But seriously Revival of [F] seems like a rebirth of the grittier DB, coinciding with Freeza's revival, that should make one come to the conclusion, that it'll be a bit like the old days, as opposed to Battle of Gods and it being a bit like the Buu Arc.

Given the Revival of F trailer, I think Dragon Ball had simply been telling less-fisticuffs stories for a while is all.

Just like
Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

Sounds like a case of
Seinfeld is Unfunny, since Dragonball paved the way for One Piece. This doesn't mean to me that Dragonball is soft.

Dragon Ball (before Piccolo Daimao arc) was already soft and goofy and One Piece didn't even exist back then...
Toriyama is going back to his own roots, not following One Piece. If there's a follower here, It's Oda since the very beginning.
Its like people saying BOG was funny because Toriyama knows DB Abridged and decided to do that way.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Toriyama's roots suck.

True, early Dragon Ball was when the series was at it's absolute worst. The series definitely doesn't need to revert back to that.

I was definitely disappointed about the action in Battle of Gods, but based on the trailer for revival of F, the new movie looks intense with lots of action.

Dragon Ball still seems the same to me. The series is not some R rated series that it is dark and gritty with blood, gore, sex and dropping F bombs. If you want that then watch something else like that awful Power Rangers fan film.

Dragon Ball is now being produced in a different era with different morals for mainstream consumption. We're not going to get the level of blood we used to and Toriyama's poisonous sense of humor is bound to be watered down, too.

Depends what you mean by "early", though. First arc? I didn't enjoy it too much, except for a lot of the designs. First tournament? Kinda disposable fun with a great final match. Red Ribbon? On and off. Baba and Tien arcs, pretty fun. Everything after that is fairly Z-like, whether you prefer that style or not.

Yes I think so and I also think that due to this:
. Never have limbs be removed
. They'll be no more visible impalement (just look at Goku's injury in the 2nd RoF trailer, it looks like his gi was torn with a burn mark underneath.
. Characters will never properly bleed again we'll just get read cut marks and scratches.
Due to this fights don't seem as hard hitting and dramatic as they used to, the feeling that it's a life or death battle simply isn't there. Hopefully RoF will prove me wrong.

I agree the early episodes of Dragonball were fairly boring, I remember being on my phone from time to time saying to myself can we get done with the red ribbon army already. That just dragged but when it was over it was better.

There were good moments in the Red Ribbon Army bit, to be fair. I enjoyed Muscle Tower pretty much all the way through.

May I recommend reading the manga? From my experience it's a much more entertaining read.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I'm just about done with the concept of reboots and making shows that were products of their time and impactful "new and sexy" and in line with modern tastes and sensibilities. Let stuff stay in their era and give today's kids their own shit to watch.
I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about
your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

I generally prefer the anime to the manga for the whole series, yes.
(Though I dunno if you were talking to both of us or just them.)
EDIT: Gah! I meant I prefer manga to anime! Whoops.

Oh I'm getting there I'm working on purchasing the manga! Before this site I really didn't know the difference between things like dragonboxes and the remastered sets, general stuff like that but I've become quite knowledgeable on the matter thanks to forums like Kanzenshuu.
Now I'm trying to wrap my head around what manga to get first I mean, I don't know where to begin. Any suggestions?
