Vegeta has naturally higher potential than Goku as evidenced by Father of Goku. Goku himself just had better training opportunities like King Kai's Planet then seven years in Otherworld plus he knows how to properly train. Vegeta wasted his chance to get a permanent edge over Goku with his first ROSAT trip by essentially increasing his power the wrong way. If he were smarter and learned to just perfect his SSJ state, he could've reached the same strength level as Goku & Gohan and kept up with them.miguelnuva1 wrote:Vegeta has better genes than Goku, the fact Goku keeps up with him points to Goku having a higher potential.DBZAOTA482 wrote:Vegeta actually has higher potential than Goku.Dyno wrote:

This is the right answer. Thats the reason why Vegeta was pissed in Buu arc.miguelnuva1 wrote: Vegeta has better genes than Goku, the fact Goku keeps up with him points to Goku having a higher potential.
After seeing Goku killing Yakon, Vegeta just got proved that Goku had improve too.
Then in their fight he talks about how ashamed he feels, because while he trained for years, Goku just trained for a couple of hours and yet he still was the mumber 1.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Goku did not train for a couple of hours. He trained the same amount of time Vegeta did. Goku just had the advantages of having s tougher body, which meant he could push himself beyond his limits, and he had the comfort of training with some of the greatest and strongest martial artists the universe has ever known.FortuneSSJ wrote:This is the right answer. No idea how got a Joker vibe from Whis, they're literally nothing alike. This guy is portrayed pretty much the same and we all know how "good" he is
A potential Aizen situation could develop though which would be interesting as they've not had a villain who at first seems like a good guy like that.

Nope, it's Vegeta. The rivarly between them is obviously a story of nature vs nurture cuz after all, the ranking of Saiyans are determined at birth by their strength which points to Vegeta having greater potential since Vegeta was a Super Elite, and Goku was a Low-Class. The reason Goku surpasses him at every turn is simply cuz he Goku has a better attitude.miguelnuva1 wrote:Vegeta has better genes than Goku, the fact Goku keeps up with him points to Goku having a higher potential.
That was the whole point to Vegeta's #1 speech.

I'm kinda surprised that no one's brought up the fact that Goku charging Whis is kinda reminiscent of when Goku charged Popo with the Oozaru behind him like when he defeated Piccolo Daimao.

Also as of Minus, pretty sure that Special's not canon apart from Bardock's last stand.

Same thing with Whis,he's always happy, relaxed and lets Beerus push him around so you wouldn't think by looking at him that he's this evil mastermind.
But, I digress.
I'm really anxious to see the training with Whis animated.

Vegeta's "#1 Speech" had nothing to do with potential or genetics. People seem to be taking the Saiyan Caste System at face value and assuming that it's inherently accurate. It's not. That's part of the point of Goku and Vegeta's fight. Hard work allowed someone dubbed eternally low-class to surpass a "Super Elite"DBZAOTA482 wrote:Nope, it's Vegeta. Vegeta has a genetic advantage but that by no means he inherently has more potential.

Besides the King Kai training, Goku didn't have much help in Z. Also, Vegeta grew up alongside really powerful fighters, in a different environment he would probably not have become this powerful.sintzu wrote:Plus he had a lot of help along the way while Vegeta did everything on his own.
It's just stupid to compare who is working harder or had more help towards becoming a better fighter and more powerful. Both of them are obsessed with training.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
Goku was dead for seven years in Otherworld with fighters of great strength, intellect and equally obsessive training habits as him. Plus since he was dead he didn't 1) have to worry about anything else but training 2) didn't have to worry about exertion as his dead body had infinite Ki and vastly stronger durability and 3) worked in an environment that was probably tougher than that of Earth. An attribute which has consistently been shown in helping vastly increase a fighters power. Vegeta was stuck on Earth along with being more of a dad & family man, had his limited living body and wasted his second ROSAT trip. Had he been smarter with his first one, he could've gotten just as strong as Cell Games Goku & Gohan but he wasn't and that permanently handicapped him until Beerus introduced God Ki.andr1y7 wrote:Besides the King Kai training, Goku didn't have much help in Z. And Vegeta's speech may not have directly referenced potential but it put Goku's training ethics, general attitude, and why they tie into Goku always being ahead in the game into perspective.

He had help from Gohan in the Cell arc and 7 years in the afterlife with no limits to how far he could push himself.andr1y7 wrote:

True and without him Goku and the rest would be nowhere near as strong as they are now.
Before that he managed to surpass ssj3 Goku with ssj2 so I wouldn't say he was handicapped.ekrolo2 wrote:That permanently handicapped him until Beerus introduced God Ki.

This is wrong. Vegeta fights Kid Buu while dead but his ki still runs out. Iirc, the only advantage of being dead is that using SSJ3 is easier.ekrolo2 wrote: didn't have to worry about exertion as his dead body had infinite Ki

For a second, unless he could find a way to permanently increase his power like that, he's still vastly inferior to Goku and especially Gotenks & Gohan who are in a totally other league to the two of them.sintzu wrote:He had help from Gohan in the Cell arc and 7 years in the afterlife with no limits to how far he could push himself.andr1y7 wrote:

I'll have to agree with both you and DBZAOTA482. Vegeta has the better genes, but the potential benefit goes to Goku, and his attitude is a bonus. If Vegeta can get into the right mindset and learn to relax as Whis recommended, I believe Vegeta has it in him to always be on per with Goku.ShadowWolf87 wrote:Vegeta's "#1 Speech" had nothing to do with potential or genetics.
