Masako Nowaza Non Dragon Ball Roles?
I know she does Dr. Kureha in One piece, but has she ever done someone that is not a little kid or an old woman? I can't seem to find anything. I'd like to know more about her range in voicing characters.

Guilmon from Digimon Tamers, although... he's supposed to be a bit of a child.
There's definitely Masamune/Morrison from Pokemon, though. Who they cleverly had Schemmel play in the English version.

I've taken a look at her filmography (animeography?) and I was surprised that besides Goku, she really doesn't have many major rolls.

Gohan deserves it.

Though she does also play his evolutions, which includes Dukemon, who's not played youthful at all. Her portrayal of every member of the evolutionary line highlights what a diverse seiyū she is, to my mind.KaiserNeko wrote:Guilmon from Digimon Tamers, although... he's supposed to be a bit of a child.
Does her brief stint as Doraemon constitute a child, I wonder? Youthful in spirit, certainly, but otherwise...

She was the witch Honerva and Pidge (Shorty) in "Go-Lion". (Team Go-Lion is rarely called by actual names and more by nicknames so hence why I use Voltron names and nickname from "Go-Lion").

Well, she played the main character in Galaxy Express 999 and the first two Gegege no Kitarou series. Those were pretty big, at least in Japan.ZazamPow wrote:I've taken a look at her filmography (animeography?) and I was surprised that besides Goku, she really doesn't have many major rolls.

Interesting, any have a video showcasing her voices for the digimon and it's digievolutions?. Also, I'd like to know if she has voiced a normal young woman, because i've only heard her Goku voice, i'd like to know how versatile she is, can she voice a young woman and sounds the part?.infermon wrote:Though she does also play his evolutions, which includes Dukemon, who's not played youthful at all. She's the blue fairy (Merryweather?) in the Japanese dub of Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
But for her voicing a young woman? I actually don't think I've ever seen/been aware of her having any roles like that.

No, that's not true at all. She's got a lot of roles from series that are pretty well known in Japan, but not in other countires.ZazamPow wrote:I've taken a look at her filmography (animeography?) and I was surprised that besides Goku, she really doesn't have many major rolls.

In fact, to my mind Nozawa's Dukemon is probably the closest we'll ever get to her doing the old Funi "generic good guy" version of Goku: adult male, with no hick accent and prone to big heroic statements.infermon wrote:Though she does also play his evolutions, which includes Dukemon, who's not played youthful at all. Re: Masako Nowaza Non Dragon Ball Roles?
I'm sure she must have played a young female role at some point in her career, but for the life of me, I can't think of one that I'm aware of.
Hmm...actually, how old was she when she first started doing voice-over? And has she ever done any live-action work?

Re: Masako Nowaza Non Dragon Ball Roles?
Kei already covered this, but that's just not true. Look through her filmography. That's a ton of starring roles. Tetsuro in Galaxy Express 999. Guilmon in Digimon Tamers. Kitarō in Gegege no Kitarō. Asura in that 2012 Asura movie. She was even one of the original voices of Doraemon before Nobuyo Oyama got the role. And that's not even counting smaller shows like The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer, Teppei, Blue Blink, and so many others in which she played the main character. Actors dream of getting that many lead roles.ZazamPow wrote:I was surprised that besides Goku, she really doesn't have many major roles.
Nozawa's been doing this since the 60s. She had minor roles in the original Astro Boy cartoon. That's insane. She could have avoided Dragon Ball completely and still been considered a legend.
It's hard to relate this to Dragon Ball when you specifically say "Non Dragon Ball" in the title... ^_^;

I think the English Wikipedia article has all of her roles listed on the Japanese counterpart, listed by year. Nozawa made her film debut at the age of three. She made her television voice over debut in Ookami Shounen Ken and Tetsuwan Atom in 1963. She played a woman in the latter (有尾人の女王の子供、国際電話局ロボット). In Oz no Mahou-tsukai she voices Princess Ozma. In Ai Shoujo Pollyanna Monogatari she voiced Polly.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I'm sure she must have played a young female role at some point in her career, but for the life of me, I can't think of one that I'm aware of.

Did not know about the three you listed. I'm so curious to hear what those characters she voiced sound like (and how close or far to Gokû).

This is way back, but She voiced a minor character (a warthog) from the Kimba the White Lion remake series. Had to do a double take there, but the series also had Mayumi Tanaka (Kuririn + Luffy) voicing a lion cub. Was so weird to hear them talking as animals, lol.

Always wondered if that was intentional or just a funny coincidence...KaiserNeko wrote:There's definitely Masamune/Morrison from Pokemon, though. Who they cleverly had Schemmel play in the English version.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: Masako Nowaza Non Dragon Ball Roles?
Masamune was still a little boy role, though. He isn't exactly one of Satoshi's bigger rivals, either, although it's a bit hard to top Shinji in Diamond & Pearl.
Anyway, Nozawa did plays Kitarou in a handful of the series for Gegege no Kitarou. That was huge. Heck, she had to give the role up for the 1980s series because she had been cast in Dragon Ball and Fuji TV didn't want her as the lead of two of their series. She voiced Kitarou again in Hakaba Kitarou a few years ago, though.

Here's a few lists.
Some highlights include Kitaro in the '60s and '70s Gegege no Kitaro anime series (and the more recent Hakaba Kitaro series), as well as dubbing Doug Funnie from Doug, Aughra from the Dark Crystal, Timon's Mom in the Lion King 1 1/2 and Merriweather from Sleeping Beauty.

Re: Masako Nowaza Non Dragon Ball Roles?
Very minor, but she voiced Maruyama Haruki in Shugo Chara!! Doki. He only appeared in one episode, seventy-five, if I remember correctly. He tried to tell a pop singer the proper way to eat ramen.

Edit: Oh, and Ohamubā-san/Auntie Viv in Hamtaro. Pretty sure she also voiced Roko's grandmother, too.

Seriously, though, relatively few of her roles haven't been major ones. Just because they're unknown to you doesn't make them unimportant.
