Dragon Ball Franchise Sales = $5 billion

Dragon Ball Franchise Sales = $5 billion
So I'd known for a while that the franchise was said to be worth $4 billion, that was mentioned way back in articles from 2007 but I just came across these two links from the end of 2014.
https://www.thecnl.com/FunimationDec2014Catalog.pdf
https://www.thecnl.com/FunimationNov2014Catalog.pdf
And what it says is that Dragon Ball Z is the #1 anime brand having sold more than 25 million DVD's and Blu Rays in the US.
Over 15 million video games have been sold in US and 40 million worldwide.
Over $5 billion in Dragon Ball merchandise has been sold worldwide.
It's the #1 Top selling show on Xbox Live.
All in all some pretty interesting information that I hadn't seen before. That's a lot of money.

Re: Dragon Ball Franchises Worth = $5 billion
And the franchise has grown even stronger, following its sudden resurgence in popularity following Battle Of Gods. And despite the immense success, some people want no more new content from Dragon Ball.
Spoiler:
Re: Dragon Ball Franchises Worth = $5 billion
Disney bought Marvel for 4 billion which owns multiple worldwide popular franchises yet DBZ alone is worth more then that.
That's truly amazing,if that's how much 1 of Shonen Jump's franchises is worth then how much would it cost to buy all of Shonen Jump ?

Cool stuff.
Doesn't surprise me Dragon Ball is getting so many haters these last years. Pure jealousy.
People can't stand the fact of their favourite anime being overshadowed by the series that supposedly should have ended long ago.
I already read some frustrated comments like "Why they keep milking the series?! Let the other anime shine." and such.
The most stupid comment I read of this kind was this gem some months ago: "Toriyama keeps doing Dragon Ball movies, because he's afraid of Fairy Tail becoming the mumber one."
Long Live, Legendary Dragon Ball. Let's go for another 30 years.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

DBZ wouldn't sell for 4 billion dollars the way marvel did if that's what your saying.

If it's making 5 billion for shueisha wouldn't they sell it for more ?Retan wrote:DBZ wouldn't sell for 4 billion dollars the way marvel did if that's what your saying.

It's almost worth half as much as The Simpsons.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

No you buy it based on what you think it's still gonna make, I doubt they'd get anywhere near there money back if they bought it for that amount.

Disney getting Marvel was a steal, especially considering how Avengers did not long after.

The most amazing part is how cheap Toei is with DB despite all that. Same goes for Sailor Moon. I cannot understand how can they not see the need to invest more in their #1 and #2 all-time biggest properties worldwide.
Re: Dragon Ball Franchises Worth = $5 billion
This is only talking about the net worth. For instance certain actors or musicians will have a net worth, but that doesn't reflect on how much they're actually paid.sintzu wrote:If it's making 5 billion for shueisha wouldn't they sell it for more ?Retan wrote:DBZ wouldn't sell for 4 billion dollars the way marvel did if that's what your saying.
While Dragon Ball may have a worth of $5 billion, I doubt it would ever sell for nearly that much if Shueisha chose to get rid of it.

DBZ will never be dethroned.FortuneSSJ wrote:"Toriyama keeps doing Dragon Ball movies, because he's afraid of Fairy Tail becoming the number one."
These new movies are nothing but icing on the cake and have nothing to do with DBZ still being around all these years after it's original ending.
DBZ has been around for over a decade after it's original ending and will still be around decades after these new movies are finished while the likes of Fariy Tail,Naruto,One Piece, ect. will be dead the minute they're creators are done with them.

Re: Dragon Ball Franchises Worth = $5 billion
The DB franchise doesn't have a net worth of $5B for 2015, that's how much it has grossed since 1984. That's a VEEEEEERY big difference.
Assuming it earned an identical amount of money each year, that means its gross worth is $167 million. It's net would likely be around half that amount.

Because it'll probably make the same amount of $$$ regardless of how much they put into it so it makes sense from a business standpoint to spend less and make more.Basaku wrote:I cannot understand how can they not see the need to invest more in their #1 all-time biggest property worldwide.

Considering that most companies in the world invest more in their biggest properties I'm inclined to believe they know it better that it pays off, not Toei.sintzu wrote:Because it'll probably make the same amount of $$$ regardless of how much they put into it so it makes sense from a business standpoint to spend less and make more.Basaku wrote:I cannot understand how can they not see the need to invest more in their #1 all-time biggest property worldwide.
Re: Dragon Ball Franchises Worth = $5 billion
The same article does give additional info for some other series too.
Fairy Tail - Sold 100,000 units to date in US.
Cowboy Bebop - Sold over 1 million units in US.
One Piece - Sold over 220,000 units in US.
So they really are worlds apart. I wouldn't be surprised if Dragon Ball Z had higher Home Video sales than all other Anime series combined. Cowboy Bebop has always been one of the more successful series in US and that's only sold 1/25th what DBZ has.

You might wanna update the title, since it's really misleading. The amount a franchise has sold is not the same as how much it's worth.Bullza wrote:The same article does give additional info for some other series too.

I forgot about Pokemon actually, no not including Pokemon then.
Pokemon may have sold more on Home Video than Dragon Ball Z for all I know but otherwise Dragon Ball Z's Home Video sales > Every other Anime series combined not including Pokemon, possibly.
