From the sound of it, Toriyama didn't have as much bearing on things as we thought, which is funny considering all of the toxic vitriol that was spouted at him for the various "transgressions" he was committing.

The latter. It's why Goku goes around in a jacket with 59 on it during the Cell arc. Also why the Bulma blog started its countdown at 59 days, and probably why (confusingly) Piccolo Day is May 9th.

Also with Gohyakukyujuu not that easy to get.

I think any Japanese fan would pick up on it straight away.

Maybe Goku and Vegeta decided they should do the ritual for their sons so Goten was the first to go but due to him not being a full blooded Saiyan he couldn't handle the form's power and kicked the bucket.

I know some will point out that Gohan said he left him behind but he could have just forgotten about him dying.

I've just noticed the Majin Bone theme randomly inserted into 16:41 in the video. Weird. Toei must have just scrambled together a bunch of any-old stuff for the production crew.

This reminds me of that one editor(I think he was the one for Hokuto No Ken?) claiming he came up with the idea of a Jackie Chan-based martial arts comic which ended up becoming DB. I don't think we'll know for certain who came up with what first but saying Toriyama did is just better for advertising.

I'm pretty sure he was just joking. But yeah, almost every single arc after the Freeza arc makes a point to at least mention Freeza. It would be hard to forget him.
