So was Dr. Gero the true mastermind behind the RRA?
So was Dr. Gero the true mastermind behind the Red Ribbon Army? I mean I find it hard to belive that someone as smart and ruthless as Gero would work for an moron like Commander Red. I think he was just useing Red, Black and the rest of the Red Ribbon Army as pawns to get the Dragonballs for him so he could take over the world.

There is, of course, no actual mention of Gero until Z. But no matter what Gero's actual role was back then, I always got the impression that Commander Red was the top of the food chain: Commander Red, as in the Red Ribbon Army. Gero was probably a scientist in his employ, or something . . .
Black was highly intelligent, and he worked under Red for years until he discovered his true intentions. Even if Gero is smarter and more ruthless, Red's intentions were probably never revealed that far down the chain even when Black took over and thus never caused Gero to rebel-- but this is just my opinion.Jermyn wrote:I mean I find it hard to belive that someone as smart and ruthless as Gero would work for an moron like Commander Red.

Ah, but remember, Gero's later artificial humans never had anything about world conquest in their programming. Their sole purpose was the murder of Goku. I think Gero was probably very handsomely paid by Red for his creations and that was probably it. Once Goku beat the army, Gero probably lost everything he had and that would be his reasoning behind his revenge. But hey, what do I know?Jermyn wrote:So was Dr. Gero the true mastermind behind the Red Ribbon Army? And Dragon Ball's dub corrected it. Still, Z's lie remains, and by a financial viewpoint, no reason to go back and fix it later.Jermyn wrote:No, the dub said he was the LEADER of the army not the man pulling the strings behind the scenes.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:http://www.daizex.com/guides/rumors/dub_mistakes.shtml

Ah, but there's now the possibility. We already know that at the very least Kyle Hebert has been called in to narrate again-- for consistency's sake-- and he mentioned a few other minor revisions were being made, as well. And if the trailer for these season sets is any indication, FUNi may decide to go picking through their inconsistencies one by one as they come across them in preparing the audio.

I agree with Lemmy. I too also wondered why Gero would work for a leader who sent numbers of his men to die for such a petty reason. But the only person he revealed his plans to was Black, who killed him shortly after, and seeing as how Black himself was killed a few minutes later by Goku, Gero probably never found out about Red's petty intentions (which is actually kind of funny when you think about it).
And like Slickmaster said, Gero probably had some personal stake in the army's success that was ruined by Goku.

Li'l Lemmy is correct; Red was the top authority. It is very very likely that Gero was, as Lemmy said, a hired scientist at the time, or at least one of them. Gero didn't really have a reason back then (if he did it wasn't mentioned anywhere) to plan any sort of rebellion or use the army as a foothold for world domination or anything like that. In DBZ Gero was the only surviving Red Ribbon member that actually cared about the fact that the army was destroyed by a boy who couldn't even operate an elevator, so he created the Jinzouningens to go kill Goku in order to get revenge. Thus being so, it's apparent that he was very loyal to the army and had no reason to backstab anyone. But then again, this is Gero we're talking about, so it doesn't have to make complete sense.

Maybe Gero was so angry at Goku for destroying his job that he swored eternal vengence on him, or he could just be bored.

Because they were made by a former RRA scientist who found it hard to break the habit of putting their symbol on them?caejones wrote:I just realized that the redribbon symbol appears on the Jinzouningen in DBZ. I am compelled to wonder why.

Hmm... He likes making jinzouningen that kill stuff. So only a secret army would hire him, and ... that's where his life's work went? So the Red Ribbon army was like, a family, almost? o.o... Dr. Gero character analysis...

No, he was just really, really into it. It being the RRA. He's kinda like a Neo-Nazi. He blindly followed Red, and still belives in him (even though he was an outright liar), hence the whole "Goku is the scum of the Earth, I'm going to dedicate my life to killing the person who destroyed my leader."
Though he was quite smart, he lacked common sense. You know, like giving #17 and #18 free will. Big mistake.

Liking the new avatar. Too bad Alias isn't around; I'd like to thank him/her. I have a question about Gero: was his goal to rule the world or destroy it? I've heard so many different explinations so I have no clue. Its safe to say he doesn't have a one track mind like 16's right..?

As far as I remember, it was to avenge the RRA. So, yeah, one track mind.Mr.Piccolo wrote:Liking the new avatar. Too bad Alias isn't around; I'd like to thank him/her.
