They seriously need to call this show Super Dragon Ball (Z or no Z at the end) instead of Dragon Ball Super, if only because the bad grammar makes me want to punch something.

You should take the Super as separated, as in edition.
Back then, it was like "Dragon Ball: Z Edition", now it's "Dragon Ball: Super Edition".

Just like the original name for Super Saiyan God is not supposed to be grammar for "the God who is a Super Saiyan", but as "Super Saiyan, level: 1", followed by "Super Saiyan, level: 2", "Super Saiyan, level: 3" and "Super Saiyan, level: GOD".

That being said, I do agree that Super Dragon Ball would sound great as it would be a direct reference to "Super Saiyan" or "Super Dragon Soul", you see. Or Super Street Fighter I guess?

We had "Super Dragon Ball Z", and it was an excellent, Street Fighter-esque fighting game ('cause Noritaka Funamizu lead its development), so I guess they don't want to risk confusion. :p

No, it's just saying that this is the first new animated series since Dragon Ball GT ended 18 years ago. It's talking about its production, not the story itself.

Oh my goodness and a plethora of swear words, Chioka Kimitoshi is the series director. Best series director confirmed.

Can you fill us in on some of the stuff he or she has done? Any highlights?

Yes. Chioka storyboarded both World Trigger Episode #23 and Disk Wars: Avengers Episode #27. One Piece Episode #690 was also storyboarded by Chioka. I believe he might have also storyboarded the first act or so of the 2013 Dragon Ball Z film. Chioka was the series director of Hakaba Kitarou, which also starred Nozawa Masako. Here is a picture of Chioka, on the left. You may find some more of his credits here.

Chioka is pretty good with action, but I think his biggest strength is his work in non-action episodes. He keeps things dynamic and interesting. If he works with a good animation supervisor and key animators he'll probably pull off a great first episode, at least.

I know nothing about him, but It seems you know a lot about animation so this guy must be a good asset to DB.

So I think it's pretty much a given the FUNimation will be going out of their way to license this. But does anyone think that maybe they'll include this in their "Broadcast Dub" initiative? It seems like the perfect situation to do so. Not sure how difficult it would be to get all those voice actors back together that frequently.

I'll be watching in Japanese, but I just thought it was something interesting to think about.

Helz yes!!! I'm pumped! I hope they explore the 12 universes and takes place after the 28 Budokai tournament! Were we see Oob's development and maybe introduce the Makaioshins as well!!

I'll also jump in to say I'm hoping the series takes place after the end of Z. Really want to see something actually "new", and an actual continuation. I also want to see Toriyama's take on older versions of characters like Pan, Goten, Trunks, Bra and Uub. If we keep getting the Buu era cast, it will feel stagnant to me over time.

That's what we'd end up with if Toriyama wasn't writing it.

I think each character will play an important role in the overall arc with Gohan&Vegeta and probably other characters getting to be the heroes of an arc each similar to the original manga and the last 2 movies.

They know GT was a flop, so I think Toei is going to do their best this time and make us and the new generation something good to enjoy.

Not since Dragon Ball Z Episode #279. Studio Cockpit is mostly busy working on Pocket Monster now, especially Iwane Masa'aki. Masunaga's lastest work was Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199, I believe.
