In this fandom, apparently so. I don't know whether it's a select few who just want to appear contrarian in an effort to sound 'informed', or if there's truly a bunch of extremely pessimistic folks out there who won't be happy until they've sucked the last remaining bit of excitement from everyone. Either way, it is extremely annoying and, quite frankly, stupid.fexus wrote:I know that not everyone are going to be happy or excited that there will be a new anime, but do you need to say that to everybody else and say that they are wrong and should be ashamed for expecting something out of this?
It comes under the arrogant assumption that anyone excited is ignorant of Toei's reputation and previous outings of a similar fashion. It believes big fans will accept anything with 'Toriyama's stamp' on it, despite a majority being quite levelheaded with their criticisms of Revival of 'F'. You only have to look at the response to Dragon Ball Minus to understand that we go by quality not name.
Until more information is released, and until the show actually airs, there is no reason to anything more than cautiously optimistic. There is nothing wrong with being excited for the first Dragon Ball series in 18 years!
In fact, with the information we have, there's more reasons to be excited than anything else. Animation made on the cheap requires an intelligent director to head the project. It's been established that Kimitoshi Chioka is very talented and surprisingly creative with his compositions. We have hints that Shida Naotoshi may be involved, too.
On top of this, we've got confirmation that the original cast is involved, along with hints about new characters in the works. These are all exciting premises with little basis for negativity.
Posting shots from Sailor Moon Crystal is not a valid comparison or reason to be cautious of Super. That show is an Original Net Animation - a web series - it has a significantly lower budget from its lack of a televised broadcast. No broadcast means no sponsors! Better comparisons would be PreCure or World Trigger, but I guess valid comparisons go against the pessimism.
I fully understand that some people haven't been fans of where Toriyama has taken the series, and that's absolutely fine; you have every right to ignore Dragon Ball Super if it doesn't do it for you. But please, please, do everyone a courtesy and let us be excited until we have a legitimate reason not to be. Please don't constantly reply to our posts letting us know why you think it's wrong to be optimistic. That's not in the spirit of this forum, and it's far from the overall tone we should want to give off to visitors.
This post isn't an invitation to start a debate. I won't, and have no interest in engaging in one. I'd just love it if we could keep the tone realistically balanced until we have more than a title to go on. It's been fine so far, but we're starting to see the same users poisoning the thread once again. I don't want that to happen.
I'm actually very curious as to how Whis will fit into things. As shown in Revival of 'F', Whis is exceptionally strong; effortlessly taking on Goku and Vegeta at once. I wonder whether he will take an active involvement in things or simply remain an impartial figure. I guess his involvement would complicate how to deal with an enemy's strength given the differences there. Any thoughts?
Am I actually thinking about power scaling?! I need to lie down.
