I don't understand why people hate GT so much but praise bog/faff for doing the same things.

Re: Soulnova

Moderately knowledgeable person here!
I think Go!Pre had two episodes in the can at the start, I don't know if that's across the board for Toei or not. After the start I'm almost sure they just went week to week (I could be wrong tho.). Episode previews were reanimated in episode a few times.

Pretty sure bank animation gets done ahead of time, but gets tweeked during the run. Them going back to fix Lovely's face at the end of her transformation is the most recent I can think of.
On hiatus.

How many episodes do series have ready at the moment of their release? How long does it take to make one episode with the quality of the current Pretty Cure?
I doubt they have the first episode finished, to be honest. Toei Animation has eight or nine projects in production right now. Everyone across the industry is busy, so there will be less chances for freelancers to be available, too. It takes 1-3 months to finish an episode. Storyboarding can take upwards of a month, key animation and in-between animation is usually allowed only one month. Planning is typically pretty bad at Toei Animation, too. The production committee members get it in their head to do a new TV series...and then want it to air three months later. In an industry where everyone is constantly working one tends to need to take time to schedule far in advance so that their production doesn't crash. It happened with A-1 recently on Idol M@ster: Cinderella Girls where the production ran out of staff to keep up with airing weekly. The original series, by contrast, had more time and planning put into it so that Series Director Nigori Atsushi could get all of his friends from across the industry to be in charge of the episodes that would focus on their favorite characters. Hibiki is the only character that really got the short end of the stick, but otherwise it was 26 really solid episodes all aired without having to take a break.

Shingeki no Kyojin Episode #7 was made in a month. A month. That means it was storyboarded and animated completely in four weeks. Episode Director Tachikawa Yuzuru outright said the production had few animators and no time. Planning is definitely the key issue to making something good. Episode Director Yokoyama Akitoshi only had a month and a half for Episode #24, too.

As for making a high-quality episode of Dragon Ball Super, three months would be ideal. Three or four weeks for storyboarding and a solid five or six weeks (more if they push production to the very last minute) of animation using a handful of talented key animators for the important shots of the episode. Your average key animator can do two cuts a day. The average episode has 300 cuts, so at a bare minimum we're probably looking at fifty or sixty cuts in a month merely from one key animator. Let's assume this episode has more allotted sheets, upwards of 10,000. You give one or two good key animators the chance to play with 10,000 sheets over four weeks and you'll get a good five-to-seven minutes of really awesome animation. Add in more talented key animators and you'll be able to give everyone extra time to perfect their cuts.

I forget the exact number, but Yamashita Hiroyuki had four or five months to create his Naruto Shippuuden Episode #322. Wakabayashi Atsushi probably had a similar length of time for Episode #167 given Yamashita Shingo did 100 cuts, Kutsuna Ken'ichi did 80 cuts and Matsumoto Norio did 120 cuts. From what I've read about Tanaka Hironori he can consistently put out fifty or sixty cuts. It would explain why his list of credits is so long despite still being in his early thirties.

Again, for Dragon Ball Super, assuming things were planned right I don't think it would be too hard to get an episode with a handful of Toei Animation's best action animators and let them do wild if they had even just four weeks to dedicate solely to a single episode. Of course, that would also mean that said episode would need a lot more than just 3,000 sheets.

But everything past Cell saga is an alternate story from another universe, or timeline. Why does it matter? Besides Chonzenshu and Toei put BoG and GT in the same timeline, despite all of its inconsistencies.
Didn't Toriyama only supervise early GT?
I heard he did up until the defeat of Bebi/Baby, not sure if that's true though but he was defenetly involved in the early stages
In an old thread about Cell/Buu being able to live forever, Herms mentioned that Toriyama wasn't involved in the story. After somebody tried to say Toriyama supervised the story Herms replied.

From what I've always known Toriyama left it up to Toei, it was there project. He might've known what was going on but that was about it from what I've read.

Toriyama's involvement with GT is detailed here:

http://www.kanzenshuu.com/production/toriyama/#gt

Basically, he just did the initial batch of character designs, and wasn't invved with the story.

As far as I can see, there already are quite a few. Like I've said, there can't be a new dragon ball thing coming out without the western fanbase arguing over how this effects GT or 'kills it'. Nature of the beast I guess.
Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

I wonder how dbs would look if madhouse or ufotable were the ones to make it. If its at least as decent as OP then I guess it would be ok, FT's budget is by far one of the worst imo.

So from what I've read,it says a foe more powerful than buu and freeza will show up,so guessing its definitely after RoF.

I'm curious to see how this plays out.

To the people concerned with the animation:

Shows such as Sailor Moon Crystal and others, I've heard, were alllll fixed when they released to Blu-ray. Like them airing on TV is like they're rushed animation, but then they kept working on it waiting for the Blu-rays to be released.

The studio doesn't matter, the staff does. Madhouse produced No Game No Life and the 2011 Hunter x Hunter series yet neither looks like the other. The former has better directing and coloring while the latter is sterile, has less good directing and few instances of good action animation.

That's easy: Akira Toriyama.

How long does everyone want this new series to be? I would like to see it at least go for 3 years. Around 150 episodes at least. I guess it's 100% up to Akira though how long it's going to be.

Honestly most people don't, but I think a lot of it's personal enjoyment; same reason a lot of people dislike the new movies and even though I enjoyed them, I acknowledge that not everyone has to. I do also acknowledge that there are similar aspects to BoG/RF and GT, but mainly for me the difference is...

Empowering Goku and Vegeta with new transformations while leaving the rest of the cast largely in the dust. And they do. I disagree merely because Toriyama's doing in it a more fun way, versus the endless filler fighting of GT which sent the rest of the Saiyans boldly into the fight but to absolutely no effect.

Well, here's hoping they get plenty of sheets.

For the duration of the new series, I hope we get at least 2 full seasons.
Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

Yes and no.

Yes in that they're far more powerful, no in that, rather than be left in the dust or ignored, they're being given things to do, enemies to fight. At least in FnF. And they at least got a lot more screentime in BoG in a fun reunion sense.

But that's far from the sole reason people dislike GT.
