If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect! The only thing though, is that Kanji is 超, which translates to "chou" meaning "great" or "super". I have my doubts that the Japanese will refer to it as "Dragon Ball Super", but instead, "Dragon Ball Chou". Much like "Dragon Ball Z" is to "Dragon Ball Zetto"!

I think they will call it Dragon Ball Super like with Super Saiyan they write 超スパーサイヤ人(Chou Supaa Saiyajin) but say Super Saiyajin instead.

Well, if the fake stuff will commence, then I wish some people would try to capitalize on old-school AF style hoax images, like this:

I had to make this. I call it "Super Saiyan 9000 Goku".

You DON'T KNOW what will happen in the next episode this time. You have no knowledge of what might be coming, no manga to use as a heads-up reference.
Can you imagine the renewed impact that Next Episode Previews (along with the spoilerific titles they will announce during those) will now have on you?

You may say it was already the case with GT, but most of us had GT way after it was aired in Japan and therefore already had glimpses or info about what it held in store before we watches the episodes (enemies, forms, plot in the long run...).
This time, the whole world will have no clue what the next episode is about and what the plot will unfold like in the long run.
It'll really feel like I'm watching DBZ for the first time again as a child. It's such a great feeling

Make Whis train Trunks, Goten, Uub, Pan, Bra and whoever else wants to tag along. It's doable, but I don't think it will happen.
Ugh, if these are the main characters then it wouldn't take me long to quit this show.
Kids should not lead the show.

I think it honestly should be:
Videl & Mr. Satan Training Pan (Gym/Karate Dojo)
Gohan Spotting Goten & Trunks (Gym) / Trunks Teaches Bra.
Goku, Piccolo & Tenshinhan, training with Whis (Whis Area)
Kibito Kai/Elder Kai & Buu Mentoring: Uub (Kai Planet)
Vegeta training on his own.

Main Characters: Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Goten, Trunks, Tenshinhan, Tarble, Pan, Bra, Buu & Uub.
Supporting: Mr. Satan, Bulma, Tights, Jaco, Krilin, #18 #17, Oolong.
Retired: Gohan, Videl, Yamcha, Chaozu.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Funny how old bs is starting to become true.

EDIT: Also Going by the front page report, this doesn't have a set episode count, so does this mean, DBS will go on so as long as we support it?

I don't think this is going to happen anyway, but this cast is the only realistic option in the End of Z timeframe. Other than Goku and Vegeta of course. But we all know this has a 99.9% chance of being the Goku and Vegeta show like everything else in DBZ.

Goten and Trunks are hardly kids by then though, isn't Trunks 18 by that time? Goku was 13 or thereabouts when Dragon Ball started so I don't understand this.

Mystic Tien wrote:I certainly remember reading somewhere that Toriyama got scripts for every episode of GT, and approved them. Maybe I remembered it wrong though =/
It sounds like you're misremembering Toriyama's comment from Shenlong Times #7:
With regards to the anime’s new series, Dragon Ball GT, how involved are you?
Just a little bit. I’ll check the stories that come up from Toei Animation, and give them a little bit of advice. Also, I’ve drawn just a few characters and illustrations. But it’s interesting! It feels like, “Ah, so they could do it this way”. I think everyone at Toei Animation really racked their brains. Good work. To think they’d make Goku little. With this story, I might even be able to continue the manga serialization again… though I have absolutely no intention of drawing it. (laughs)
So basically Toriyama checked the story ideas Toei had for GT and gave them some advice. There's no mention of completed scripts, and indeed, if a script were already done it would probably be too late in the game for Toriyama to offer advice. This interview also predates the debut of the first episode of GT, and in fact the only story element from GT which Toriyama specifically refers to is them making Goku a kid again. So all of the information we have regarding Toriyama's involvement with GT indicates he was only involved at the very beginning, to help get the ball rolling: he came up with the series' name and logo, did the "several years later" character designs for the main cast, designed Gill and the Capsule Corp spaceship, and drew some pictures of Goku and co. having adventures on other planets. It's all stuff related to the "dragon balls in space" section at the very beginning of the series. There's no indication that he was still involved with things by the time Baby turned up, let along the evil dragons or the very end of the series.

Of course, the same pattern could repeat itself with Super: Toriyama only active at the start and quickly entrusting the anime staff to keep things going. Still, with GT Toriyama never got credited with the original draft (原案) of the story like he is with Super. That's the same credit he got for the JSAT special, which was hyped as being based on a story idea from him, even though the script itself was credited to Takao Koyama. We might expect something similar with Super.

AlphaOmegaSin post his thoughts on Dragon Ball Super. I do have to agree with him on a few ideas but GT did the whole going to other planets idea.

It's actually not "超スパーサイヤ人", but "超(スーパー)サイヤ人". The "スーパー" (Suupaa) is simply the alternative reading of "超", and it's usually written in small characters on top of it (furigana).

Same thing for the title of DBS: ドラゴンボール超(スーパー)

But yeah, that image above is fake AF xD

Make the eyes regular colored, make him look less menacing/angry, drop some pounds and muscles, and give him an orange gi. That will be Toriyama's brilliant next transformation.

If they're going to explore the 12 universes then it needs to be long so it won't feel rushed.
Does Toei plan for series that long though? Outside of manga adaptions like One Piece that go until they're unprofitable like Toriko, I can't see it. It's a money and sponsors and ratings and merch sales.
I could be wrong.

This is something JulieYBM is more equipped to answer, I know that.
Series are typically ordered by the cour or in pairs of two cours. Series Director Date Hayato said mid-way through 2014 that Naruto Shippuuden would be free of original storylines throughout the rest of 2014, which means they had already planned scripts out for six months. Pocket Monster is typically already animating episodes five months before they air. This press release from Toei Animation Europe claims that World Trigger will have fifty episodes, which means TV Asahi at least plans to air it for that long.

My guess is that the production committee members have at least planned for this series to be four cours for the sake of merchandising.
bleed0range wrote:I find all this information about the animation and number of sheets and what not very interesting. Can someone tell me who we know that is involved and what that means possibly for the series? I seem to remember someone mentioning that the director of the series has had some hand in action animation before? Are there any examples of prior work we can see that may give us an impression?

Also, how do the budgets of things like xenoverse or any other video game cut scenes stack up against a weekly series? To gauge animation quality. I don't expect too much from the animation but I am hopeful that it can have amazing episodes at least like DBZ did with he most important parts of the series.

Anyone who has anything else to say about animation do tell because I find it fascinating.
Dragon Ball Super Series Director Chioka Kimitoshi was a regular storyboard artist for Disk Wars: Avengers. In World Trigger Episode #23 Chioka storyboarded some nice action scenes, even if the key animation wasn't always up to snuff. I think Chioka definitely excels at dialogue scenes, though. His storyboards employ layouts that really look interesting and help bring the world to life on a three dimensional plane. Disk Wars: Avengers Episode #27 is a great example of what he can do to make an episode with little action look great.
