I haven't been this excited for something that was upcoming since Skyrim was announced.
While I see some "sub vs dub" debate - I grew up with the dub and prefer watching it that way, but I also enjoy the sub since that was the only way I could watch Dragon Ball GT as a youngster - my dad got a "DVD set" which turned out to be a bunch of CDs with pirated video on it off of eBay (that ticked off my dad but I watched them anyway :3)
There is so much to speculate on what the new series is going to have in store for us. I've been wanting to add to that speculation (registered here on Kanzenshuu for that very reason) for a while.
1. A plot arc that doesn't center around a villain that is really really strong that the characters have to get really really strong in order to beat him/her/it. It could be something like the Black Star Dragon Ball saga, or something entirely different. I'd like to see some mystery and lore flushed out by going back into space. I want to know if there are other Saiyans out there, and if they might even be tucked away in a hidden corner of the Universe on their original home world. Or, a population diverged before they arrived on Planet Plant. Perhaps even learn the origin of how Saiyans gained the ability to go Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan God.
2. On the flipside, if Whis continues to train Goku and Vegeta, it is possible the students exceed their master and both become stronger than Whis. The only reason Beerus hasn't done so is because he more or less sleeps all the time!
3. If #2 happens, we could see a powerful being try to wrestle the position of God of Destruction away from Beerus by killing him. If Whis is bound to attend to any current God of Destruction, he may have to turn villain and Goku and Vegeta (as well as Earth) may become targets as their level of power would be a threat to the new God of Destruction.
4. Dragon Balls will be involved in some way, but I'd like to see something different from collecting them just to make a wish and undo some lasting damage. Maybe their origin might be fleshed out - perhaps there were other races that could make them even before the Nameks, and maybe one of those Eternal Dragons are still out there. Although I love when the series (both Z and GT) went into space, I don't want another Black Star Dragon Ball saga.
5. I see a lot of people speculate on how the other 11 Universes come into play, if at all. What are they like and what sort of powers do their most fearsome warriors possess?
6. Humans and Nameks are being left in the dust. They don't seem to have the myriad of transformations the Saiyans have. Or... do they? Maybe it just hasn't happened yet. If this is the case, a Super Human God or Super Namek God could be possible.
7. This speculation stems from my own Universe, but what if each race had their own God of sorts? Not a living God like Goku and Vegeta either, but an immortal that is higher up than even the Supreme Kais. I don't think this is likely though, it doesn't seem to fit with Dragon Ball lore.
8. Catastrophic power reduction - what if a villain found a way to turn back the progress Goku and Vegeta made in their power levels - not just undoing their Super Saiyan God transformations but even regular Super Saiyans? This is possible in a number of ways.
9. Super Saiyan 4 - if GT is retconned by Dragon Ball Super, would the Super Saiyan 4 transformation and its predecessor Golden Oozaru still appear?
10. GT is looking pretty much as canon as some of the first 13 Dragon Ball Z movies, but if it were to somehow survive and Super being the series that connects the end of Majin Buu, the two new era movies, End of Z with Pan, and the start of GT, there is a considerable amount of stuff that has to change that is unlikely to change. For one, Pilaf and gang have to get old again some how. They could make an illfated wish to Shenron for that. Goku and Vegeta would need to be powered down to their pre-Battle of Gods level. Some bad guy could make an illfated wish to Shenron for that. Actually, almost anything that would have to be changed to make GT canon again would require a wish from Shenron so I doubt such a scenario would be forced like that.
11. GT is a side story, an ex-canon continuation of Dragon Ball Z. Assuming it is gone, there is another thing I'd like to see changed just a bit. This was also hinted at with Battle of Gods. That being - Goku doesn't freaking disappear from the rest of his friends for years on end. I also want the whole moving out away from his family for even more years to train some kid named Uub to be retconned. There is no excuse why he couldn't just instant transmission to Chi-Chi's house and continue to see his kids and granddaughter grow up. Goku can be absent minded, but he is no deadbeat! Goku still will train Uub - and I think we'll see him in Dragon Ball Super. But he also seemed to have taken on the master/student role with Pan.
12. Earth doesn't blow up again.
13. A plot arc that doesn't involve the impending destruction of Earth or the Universe. That does not mean it would be devoid of action - what if Bulma were kidnapped for a space pirate's mad scientist to experiment on? Vegeta would be miffed at that. I may be repeating myself, but I'd love to see more adventure aspects similar to the original Dragon Ball and somewhat akin to the Black Star Dragon Ball saga.
14. Finally, Pan needs to go Super Saiyan somehow. I think the coolest way for this to happen is if she is born already in the Super Saiyan form. She would have to learn how to power down instead of power up at a young age to control her abilities. When she gets older, she could even become the most powerful character in the series.
15. Maybe not for #14 - while it is different from the Pan-centric story of GT, having Super be Pan-centric as well off the bat would be kind of odd. Or cool. I don't know.
16. Ultimately, this July is going to be so exciting for everyone with an unconditional love of Dragon Ball. That is a sure fire guarantee!
